The reviews looked good so thought we'd give it a shot. Boy were we glad we did. Loved the retro style of the place. Everything looks genuinely from an older time period...the bar, the lights, the mirrors, the walls, the curtains, the tables and chairs, and the decors....all consistently vintage looking. The waitress and bartender were very friendly and welcoming. When we walked in with a stroller, the bartender immediately took us to the elevator in the lobby of the building next door which required a key. Upon entering the second floor lounge, he politely asked other patrons to make way for us to push the stroller through, which we were very grateful for. I didn't have very high expectations for the food since the place seems more of a bar/lounge, than a restaurant. The "American Breakfast" brunch menu offers about a dozen choices of standard items such as fried/scrambled eggs; French toast; pancakes; hash browns; cornmeal waffles; honey apple granola....all for under Fr. 10. Then there was the "Hotel Breakfast", for Fr. 25, which includes a basket of various breads, eggs any style, hash browns, ham, and fruits. The choice was a no-brainer. Our cappuccinos came first and they were simply delightful. The cappuccinos were beautifully designed one with heart and the other one with leaf in the middle and tasted amazing! So rich and creamy, with a hint of chocolate, absolutely delectable! Then our food arrived, and sooo much of it. The bread basket was filled with all kinds of different breads all fresh and warm. The butter was served in a small hotel desk bell shaped metal butter dish, cleverly matching the hotel theme of the bar/lounge. Our "Hotel Breakfast" did not disappoint either, tasty and filling, exactly what I was craving. Then the waitress brought up our homemade waffles and mixed fruits platter, which looked like a whole other brunch for another person! The waffles were fluffy and airy with a little bit of powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The fresh mixed fruits were beautifully carved. Looked like somebody took pride in the presentation of the food served as well as the taste. There was nothing short of a perfect brunch experience at Hotel Rivington & Sons. You can smoke up there, which for smokers is cool, but with absolutely zero ventilation, you don't even need to smoke an actual cigarette to get your nicotine. The music upstairs is usually electronic but usually gets old somehow, so not a place to stay all night, but a good place to get your dancing feet warmed up. Downstairs is always cool. It has a cozy living room feel. There's a long bar and a comfy sitting area. It's nice for a chill drink before it too gets too crowded. But not only a place to come on the weekend. It's a hip place to throw a cold one back after work as well!

It's pretty spacious and clean, with TVs all around and an Addams Family pinball machine in the corner, which some guy was hogging all night. We each had a beer and I had their "Mia Hamm" calzone to satisfy a late night snack attack. Wasn't the best calzone ever, but hey, not bad for 11pm on a Wed night or whenever that was.

They have great beer here, and the game`s always on- so if you can get in the door, also bring a friend along! On a weekend, the music rocked- `twas also Brooklyn style. I dig this bar so much (I`m kinda in denial).
