I never quite understood what people meant when they said 'reno nightmare' until we went with this…read morecontractor. We decided to go with them because during the quote stage, Kevin was incredibly helpful and thorough. Emails were responded to promptly and from online reviews, it seemed like there were no major complaints. Our job was quite small for our condo bathroom. We were quoted $6000 (way too high) to install drywall on two walls, level and tile the floor, install tile 5' up two walls with tile we purchased and provided and install a ceiling grid. We met with Kevin and were told it would take a week to get the job done. The Monday when work was scheduled to begin at 8 am, it was almost 10 am and we called the project manager, Cliff, to ask what was going on and when they planned to be on site. He was very confused and didn't have any of the info that Kevin provided and scheduled in our quote. He literally had no idea that he was supposed to be at our place doing work. He called back, apologized for the mix up and said he would be back the next day. The next day came and we went through the entire process all over again as we did with Kevin, to tell Cliff what needed to be done. We were not impressed. We were wasting yet another day of a one week timeline. That afternoon, materials were dropped off and work didn't begin until the next day. When work finally began, we should have known it wasn't going to be quality. One guy was left to do the entire job and jumped around from task to task. We complained in emails to Kevin daily and spoke with the project manager constantly who assured we would be happy at the end. The one guy doing all the work didn't even take off the bathroom door to tile the floor and decided to 'work around it'. Floor tiles were installed unevenly, wall tile install was poor and drywall was strapped so much it bowed and wasn't even screwed down in some places. See photos for just some of the shoddy work done. The floor tile was installed on a Friday while we were at work and when we came home, the toilet was removed and left off the entire weekend. We were told someone would be back to install the toilet once tile was set. After two weeks of shoddy work, we finally put a stop to it and told Kevin that things are getting worse and not fixed. Work stopped and we eventually met with Kevin and Angie who agreed that the quality of the work was subpar. Angie told us the person working on our bathroom was new and 'training'. Imagine a business owner telling you they left a 'trainee' in your house for two weeks by himself to do kijiji-style work. They agreed they would take everything out and redo the job so we scheduled to reorder tile and schedule demo and were told it would take about two weeks to finish this time around. After the May long weekend, a crew of two men came to do demo while we were not home. We got a call from our neighbour who said she was worried that walls in the building would come down because it sounded like they were using sledgehammers. When she yelled at them to stop it, that's when the hammer came through her wall. I immediately called Cliff to ask what was going on who told me they were only using chisels and saws to which my neighbour went over to see what work was being done and confirmed it was hammers. To cut to the chase, Angie and Kevin blamed us for putting the hole in the wall saying it was always there, yet couldn't explain to us why it was covered up in the first place if we apparently made the hole. This is hands down the biggest nightmare service we've ever experienced. I would stay away from these people at all costs. They will have an excuse and answer for everything and will refuse to take responsibility and just fix things and move on. The negative reviews on FB and google seem to have some excuses or brush offs and I imagine they will likely try to do that here. We had no choice but to report this contractor to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

He came recommended by a friend and after 4 quotes, we felt the most comfortable choosing him. We bought an old home and undertook a massive renovation. We wanted to preserve the original maple floor but also needed to add to it in an addition and in areas where walls had been removed. Jan explained the process and gave a fair and clear quote. Prior to the job, he stayed in touch in regards to our start date (which was forever changing on our part) and although it was tight, he started a week before Christmas. He would send pictures often and stayed in touch throughout the process so that we knew how things were progressing. He was sure to show us small imperfections in the preexisting wood (most of which we wouldn't have noticed) and was clear on what could be fixed and what could not in our over 80 year old floor. He took on more work than he anticipated with this job and the job was extended past Christmas. He was even in on Christmas day. In the end, the laced in wood, the sanding, stain and finish look great. Charming, knowledgeable and very conscientious.
