All Wrapped Up (genius pun), is a little-girl heaven. Lots of sweet little purses and jewellery boxes and tiny little things you can keep in your pocket and bring out at recess to sparkle and make you look cool. They also have some appealing homewares that are actually things you'd like to receive as gifts. Funky clocks and bookends and whimsical jewellery stands and all sorts of giftables that Kath and Kim would pronounce 'Noice.' It's much more reasonably priced than you'd expect from a sparkly gift shop in the Eastern Burbs and the staff are pleasantly chatty and not at all snobbish. When a co-shopper was looking at a photo frame made out of a combi van, the sales assistant pointed out they also have combi van egg cups. Now this might sound stupid in theory but if you'd seen the things, you'd have been as delighted as we were. Needless to say she took two.

Pretty much the perfect place, I just spun around with my eyes closed and finger outstretched and bought whatever I landed upon. However if you wish to support local and regional artists and don't mind paying fair prices for unique, handmade items then this is the place for you. Purple Cockatoo is conveniently located in the Coles' shopping center on The Parade in Norwood. It has wonderful natural light that adequately portrays the beauty of the jewelry, sculptures, and woven textiles found within. I happened upon this this little gem while wandering through the shops this morning and was so taken with some pf the pieces I returned later with wallet in hand! On both occasions the owner, Ivana, was present and I was cheerfully greeted though she was quite busy answering inquiries and assisting others in the shop. After a very brief wait she was happy to educate me about the various artists featured. It is obvious she is passionate about art and loves what she does! I cannot say enough about the delightful store and it's equally engaging owner. Pop in and see what catches your eye, you won't be disappointed.

Why isn't this place named "Over priced jewellery and arty stuff"....no confusion there! So, as you have probably guessed Purple Cockatoo sells a lot of 'pretty' things which seem to be targeted at the female side off the cliental base. I must admit that many of the designs are not quite up my ally, but my idea of 'pretty' is a freshly popped Corona with a wedge of lime half out the top! They did have a metal sculpture of what looked like a mouse which was pretty cool, but it was a couple of grand......pricey mouse!

The kids products were all handmade, and excellent quality, and the homewares featured many adorable owls. I loved pretty much everything in here, especially the Korean diaries and sweet one off stationary. I am going to come here for gifts from now on and my friends are going to love me for it. Good quality, novelty, pretty, and imported? Who wouldn't?

However, one bright and sunny day I was drawn to a window display and decided to venture in. Bimbo is not full of short skirts and handbags. In fact, it is a really funky and quirky gift and homewares store. Whether it is your friend's birthday, your birthday or if you need to get a monkey magic pillow for your couch; Bimbo has something for you. The store is full of interesting items that will suit almost anyone. They have a great collection of novelty books, designer jewellery, clocks, watches, and toys; the list goes on... Bimbo has actually been one of Adelaide's long-standing unique gift stores for over 10 years. So you know that they have quality items. I have found the funniest gifts in this store for my friends; like a book called "Let's draw a c**k on it" and "How to speak to a zombie". Brilliant! I should not forget to mention that homeware items are super cool, like clocks made from records, funky vintage styled clocks, cool picture frames and flask essential oil burners. So, if you are stuck for a birthday or chrissie present, this is the ultimate gift destination in CBD.

The store sells a unique range of cards, wrapping paper and little gifts, some of which are really great. Their selection of wrapping paper and ribbons was great. The prices were ok at around $1.50 a metre depending on which ribbon you want, they must be popular as I saw a girl buying a couple of metres of different ones while I was in the store. Their range of Christmas decorations was discounted at very reasonable prices, some as little as $2.00. There is a big rack of cards to also choose from whilst you browse for the present. The children don't miss out either with a little kids corner shelf which has lots of little things perfect for small people, if that is who are you shopping for. I did see one lady buying yards of Christmas wrapping paper which I would have loved to tell her you could get from Kmart for half the price but unfortunately sometimes the Burnside Village-goers just cannot be told.

When walking into this store, the lovely lady owner asked me if I'd ever been in there before, after I said no she went on to tell me about the store and their stock. The first thing she pointed out was that 98% of the items they had in stock, were French, and the other 2% are from somewhere else in the world. This impressed me straight away, what impressed me even more was that when she showed me a particular case filled of absolutely amazing jewellery items which I nearly shed a tear at their beauty, she told me that they were the only ones available in Australia. They were the only store that some French jewellers send their items too, increasing their beauty and awesomeness 100%. I fell in love. It's definitely a store with character, with some of the loveliest staff I have ever seen. This family business is very warm and welcoming and just stunning. What's better? For beautiful and unique jeweller - it's actually not overly expensive. Some of the stuff can get up there, but there's always something you will find that you will love in a decent price range when it comes to jewellery. To get a good example of the prices you will be paying for an amazing store like this, have a look at the website, as they have an online shopping section. But please, make sure you make the effort to go to the store as well. If only for the very friendly vibe and interesting stories.
