I spent two years here, studying Advertising and I was very impressed by the quality of teaching and the hands-on experience that I gained here. The lecturers here are willing to go the extra mile, often using their own industry contacts to bring the course to life and enabling students to get the most out of their learning experience. There are opportunities to travel here too with various courses, including the annual advertising trip to New York, where students are able to visit the some of the biggest advertising agencies in the world and see the industry at work in this amazing atmosphere. With all of that to offer, and they also have their very own Costa Coffee on the first floor of the college, to top it all off. At the start of 6th year I was convinced I wanted to study law at uni but this dull course really put me off to be honest. But hey, I don't think law is the most exciting course and all my friends that do it are constantly complaining at how dull it is. Anyway, my employment course here was as exciting as it could be and it gave me an insight into law. They offer a full range of Highers at the college, HNC and HND courses and they also have a wide range of evening classes. For years I have been saying to myself that I'll do one of the evening jewellery making courses that they have here as I would love to make my own jewellery. I'll get round to it one of these days. The college is also very handy to get to by public transport and there's even a bus stop right outside. Perfect!

My bus journeys aside, it seems that this college has for years attracts many people from all over Glasgow. This has got to be a good sign. I myself have never actually attending a course here, however know quite a few others who have. Subsequently, I can say with conviction that this college offers a wide range of course and flexible learning styles. These are the strongest elements. As for the courses, there is an element of hit and miss, however this is nothing unique and should be expected in any institution. On the whole, I have heard mainly positive response and comments on any courses attended. So, worth having a look at their website if you want to go gain a higher, certificate or just take up a new hobby. I will certainly get round to a cooking course here - some day...

Stow was the first in Scotland to offer Sound Engineering as a course of study and is the college of choice for many budding young musicians and sound engineers in Glasgow. In addition to its great facilities, top of the range equipment and state of the art technology, the toilets are pretty clean too - which is always nice eh? The canteen offers plenty of good grub throughout the day, including a full breakfast for only £2. The only negative thing I can think of is about the grumpy old man that works in the convenience shop, but I doubt it would be the same without him.

Located round the back of the art school, it won't attract tourists, and the large, functional building expresses much of the place's practical intentions, but little of the creativity within. It is a splendid spot for further and adult education, with lots of vocational courses and media-associated subjects. Many of the courses have a strong practical component, and feel more like project work than traditional, lecture based education: a real positive, modern attitude in their practice.

Sunday mornings and Royal Conservatoire Coffee Concerts are a match made in heaven. What an…read moreinspired idea, and at just £10 for coffee, cake and a concert (£7.50 concessions) an absolute bargain! I was lucky enough to make the very first Coffee Concert of the season and it was a useful introduction to the venue and what it might offer to the general public. Coffee and cake was served in the cafe post-concert where the performers and organisers mingled and chatted with an enthusiastic audience. Nice touch. Aside from an varied programme of concerts and performing arts staged by students past and present and visiting world-class talents, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (previously known as RSAMD) has a Box Office and large cafe at its main entrance up those imposing steps. The corridor between the cafe and the Stevenson Hall (where the coffee concert was held) is lined with photos of the college's alumni - a veritable who's who of the arts, music and theatrical world. I was absolutely blown away by the acoustics at the Stephenson Hall which really did justice to the singers and musicians who provided us with a terrific show. The seats in the auditorium were very comfortable with ample leg room but then I'm a bit shorter than the average person! Tip #1: If you need more leg room in the Stevenson Hall then select an end of aisle seat (at the stairway) in one of the blocks of stalls either side of the main block of seating. Hope that makes sense? Tip #2: If you are looking for somewhere very inexpensive to eat, drink and/or meet up in town the cafe here may be just the ticket. Geared mainly for students but also open to the public the daily specials included vegetarian and vegan dishes (hurrah). A generous cup of tea cost 80p and a Dear Green Coffee cost £1.40 (in a lidded cup so you can take it away if you want). Tip #3: Ample sockets available for charging phones and laptops (and possibly free wifi but don't quote me) Pop in and check it out for yourself if you haven't already done so and keep an eye out for their events programme.

I can honestly say this awesome experience will stay with me for a long time. As for the Conservatoire it's a lovely building. You only need to look at its track record of turning out stars; from Michelle Mc Manus to the former Miss Scotland to the suerb success rate of graduates gaining lead and supporting roles in London's west end (or beyond!) Classes vary in price, from £900 for the juniors' Starfactory course to a whopping £4500 for the adult training programme. Although it may seem steep a quarter of this fee is covered by SAAS, and the rest can be covdered through either a student loan or through a little help from the bank of mum and dad (or just the bank if necessary!) It is arguably worth the cost as the majority of those who attend GAMTA end up with superb qualifications and great success rates in the industry. Either way, it's great to put on a CV but most importantly, the kids seem to get a real buzz out of it. This is evident in the high quality of the shows put on. Such shows have moved from the old Mitchell Theatre to the spacious Armadillo in their time, and are very well put together. The dedication of the performers is evident in the energy maintained throughout these performances, and the shows are often fun to watch and interactive, especially the Christmas panto. Founder Stuart Bird is a very talented man, and over the years he has brought his once small company up to one of the highest rated kids theatre programs in the UK. He interacts with the kids constantly, is a mentor and also writes a lot of the material for the shows amongst choreographing them too. He is a Jack of all musical theatre trades and a master of all it seems, which is apparent with the fantastic quality of this company. Long may it continue!

I tried out four…read moredifferent instructors and Gerry was both the only instructor who offered a first lesson for free but also by far the best instructor. His attention to detail is excellent and we soon established a great rapport. His Audi is a fantastic car to learn in, a really nice, comfortable and reliable ride. My wife and I both booked double lessons with Gerry and he helped us pass our tests inside of three months. Gerry is a brilliant instructor: diligent, understanding and encouraging and not at all aggressive and pushy like the other instructors I tried. I can't recommend Gerry highly enough and have a couple of friends currently learning with him. They have lessons for everybody of all abilities and the building has an excellent lecture hall of which there is a photo of here on yelp. They college operates as a charity; member ship costs £30 a year or £200 for life. If you want to learn the bagpipes in Glasgow this is the place to learn, they have a shop conveniently next door.
