A scene from a movie was played on the screen during the How to: Stay Married series on 1/24/24 posted online (but the movie clip's audio is muted during the recording). It contained a speech with a significant number of profanities or swear words, praising hookup culture, and getting drunk. Austin said it was a great speech, although I couldn't tell if he was joking; he seemed to love it. He did not though speak on those aspects of the speech; as if that was acceptable behavior.

I was thankful for the people who welcomed me as I entered the building and the worship team member who took the initiative to learn my name before the service started when spotting that I was sitting alone. When the service started, there was professional quality multimedia infused in the service, consisting of everything from video backdropped song lyrics to video announcements. The service had a guest preacher from Louisiana, a pastor from one of the churches that sponsored/planted this community. The message was well organized on God's dreams and timing. There was a good blend of teaching, anecdotes and scripture to keep the congregation engaged. It was very meaningful. The congregation seemed familiar with each other and there was a push for small group community. Dress was mostly casual (t-shirt and jeans) and had a very down to earth feel to it. There are 4 services which seat about 300 or so a piece, so the church, which is a few years old, seems to be thriving. A couple nitpicky things: the worship music was all new to me (possibly in house produced?) so putting credits on the lyric slides could help someone look them up ... and also the drums (although well executed) need to be more enclosed with screens to give the audio engineering more balance. Right now they are drowning the vocals and other instruments a bit. Overall a really great experience and I would recommend the church to those in the area looking for a church home.

The church teaches that Christians should support the secular state of Israel and frames support for Judaism as something Christians ought to affirm. From a Baptist, Bible-centered perspective, this is not something I cannot agree with. The Bible is clear about the betrayal and position of the modern Jew. It felt like political/theological pressure rather than clear gospel teaching. I'm sharing this for others who hold traditional Baptist convictions and want to avoid surprises.

The third service is brunch church. It also begins at 10:45 with a varied brunch menu. The pastors are engaging and energetic. The sermons are peppered with humor, scripture, and relevant messages for today's world. There are also Small groups at 9:30 for people of all ages. And all this is just on Sundays! Wednesdays are busy too! They invite the local college students to a lunch from 11:00-1:00. About 200 students make this lunch a priority in their day! There are also Wednesday evening classes for all age levels. Not into classes? The choir meets at 7:00 Wednesday evenings. Have a question? The people there are very happy to help you!

My family and I attended many great local churches in the Temple/Belton area before finding New…read moreLife. We felt the Holy Spirit here and the strength of their faith. The pastor's messages are always right on target -- so much so that we think he must be talking to us most Sundays. :-) We greatly enjoy the fellowship, teaching, and family friendly atmosphere. The children and youth are typically dismissed to their own meetings during the Pastor's teaching, and we have great youth pastors. Hope you will come join us some Sunday at 9 a.m. for Bible study, or 10:30am on Sunday or Wednesday at 7pm for services!
