Our radon gas level was reduced from 9.9 pCi/l to 0.9 pCi/l (the ambient outdoor radon gas level is 4.0 pCi/l). Tim was diligent, answered all our questions, and took our concerns into account. Before the installation, he explained his remediation plan which included describing the purpose of the various components that would be part of the system, how the existing drains would be retrofitted, and answered our questions of why it is that radon gas causes cancer (it erodes the lungs' lining) and why can't the pump be placed out of sight in the basement (if the pump's exhaust becomes blocked, then radon gas will be drawn into the home at a high rate). Per our request, he took extra efforts to place the pump on the side of the house where it would be minimally visible from the backyard. After the installation, he reviewed how the system works and pointed out the gauge which shows the system pressure so that it can be monitored to ensure proper system operation.

Central Illinois Radon declined to inspect first, after 3 offers on my part to have them see it first, and committed several times in writing to a quote that came in under the other bids. Specifically, I asked, "Since you did not do an inspection, how can I best compare this to other quotes I have gotten, some of which are coming in higher? If I go with you, is this really all I will pay? Thanks again!" He replied, "Hi Meghan, my estimates are firm. Unless there is something out of the ordinary with the home? I've never increased the price of an install. If I under bid the project I take the hit sort of speak. Some Companies hire laborers and aren't on site completing the work themselves which drives up the cost. I'm on site completing the install. Hope this helps." I replied, "I guess the only crawl space I know is my own, so I don't know what is and is not ordinary. The home is old (as you know) but has had a lot of additions over the years, I think it's a bit atypical? I did get another estimate in that wasn't super high, though it did come in above yours. I'd be happy to move forward if you feel comfortable doing so. If you prefer to inspect first, I of course would understand that." He confirmed no need for inspection and that the price would remain firm. When they arrived to do the job today, they spent 10 minutes down there and told me there is no way to mitigate radon and that they were not able to complete the job -and left. Again, two other companies determined, after inspection, that the mitigation is indeed possible. So it seems that either Central Illinois Radon essentially backed out of their written commitment to eat the higher cost, OR they are not in fact capable to do radon mitigation like other companies in town who ostensibly own the same kind of business. Meanwhile the next company (one of the original bidders) can't get me in for another 7 weeks, which may impact my closing date on my house, and that's on top of the costs and hassle in the way I'd planned my day (e.g., paid to board my dog) and the other projects around the scheduled mitigation. It was a shocking and frustrating experience and I'd caution all to avoid working with the company, as they back out of commitments at best and are not capable at worst.

This is the company that did work on my home after the storm in 2023. I'm still trying to get my…read morehome fixed and USAA paid PuroClean/Brock in full before the work was completed. I was supposed to receive an extended warranty on the roof PuroClean replaced, yet the roof has continued to leak since it was replaced. Subsequent inspections have identified multiple concerns with the work performed, and the resulting interior damage and mold have continued to worsen while the matter remains unresolved. I also have serious concerns about discrepancies between what was represented to my insurance company and what was actually used or installed. For example, Brock represented that certain higher-priced materials, including cedar planking, were being ordered, while treated 2x4 lumber was delivered instead. He only changed it after I pointed it to him AND the insurance company. There were also discrepancies involving measurements of my home and representations that custom French doors were required when the existing doors were standard-sized. I have repeatedly asked for my leaking roof, and other issues to be addressed and for the warranty to be honored. Instead of receiving a timely resolution, the process has continued to drag on while the damage to my home gets worse. It's a horrible nightmare. Everything stated on my review reflects my personal experience and the records, communications, photographs, and inspection information I have retained regarding this project. Brock is very charming and will try to explain everything away, but charm doesn't fix a leak. When I asked if he would tarp my roof to stop more water damage occurring to my home his exact words to me were, "I would have to tarp the whole roof." A WHOLE roof HE replaced three years ago.
