I am writing from the perspective of that one friend you bring and introduce to everyone else. This interaction can go many ways, but i have always had a positive experience in others welcoming me and taking the time to ask me questions and make me feel a part of a community. Granted, I can relate to many of the people here in terms of culture and age, but I can honestly say that the hospitality shown me here is not always shown at other churches. In speaking with others it is clear that many share the same heart and desire to reach the community of Cambridge as the pastoral staff and church board. I feel as if I always learn something applicable that I can use in the upcoming week and in life in general. If you are new to the area I would recommend checking this church out. I have seen how members in the community have welcomed the girlfriend over the past two years, and how her experience here has helped to shape the purpose and heart for those around her.

I saw a couple reviews that mentioned the church's Southern Baptist Convention roots and just…read morewanted to speak to that. I understand the resistance, truly I do. The past year that I have been in Boston has involved a lot of researching denominations and trying to understand them and the SBC certainly is a hard one to grapple with for many. But no matter how many times I've ventured elsewhere, I *always* come back to Hope Fellowship. Mostly, that is because I'm convinced that Hope Fellowship is led by godly, prayerful people and that the Spirit is bearing fruit here. Again, trust me, I get the doctrinal disputes and I struggle with the SBC on certain issues. At Hope, the leadership doesn't shy from hard topics but it also doesn't give black-and-white, pre-scripted answers; nor does it give wishy-washy, ungrounded ones. I've only ever seen Hope leadership tackle highly sensitive subjects in a nuanced, thoughtful, and humble way. Even if you don't agree 100%, you know you can share your perspective with leadership and be heard and loved. Furthermore, personally, I've found that this church has a refreshing way of incorporating confession and also rejoicing in God's mercy. During each service we have a call-and-response of a Psalm and then a prayer of confession and then a passage reminding us of how we have been redeemed from that sin. It's so balanced and thoughtful and, to me, really models what we see throughout Acts as people come to faith--a rhythm of repentance and joyfully accepting God's grace. If you are looking for a church that does not shy from tough questions and that will continually extend the love of Christ to you and motivate you to do the same for others, this place does that.

I meant Baroque but who knows, maybe they ran out of money building this thing, who is to say. So it's gorgeous, and very Grande. I meant grand, but Ari is gorgeous too. It actually looks quite new, and in that way it's nothing like a European church, but it's still very pretty and reminds me in some ways of an Old English building or something - maybe German. Definitely a lovely addition to a really lovely and very wealthy and very fancy neighbourhood.

The greeters took some time to talk to me, and they have a hospitality area with coffee and tea. I sometimes feel lost when visiting a church, so the fact that people took some time out to talk to me was very nice. The teaching is also very easy to follow, and breaks down the Bible in a way that I'm able to learn and also apply it, which I feel is important. I'd definitely recommend this church to anyone!

Worship music was lovely, but overall the experience felt short and by the time I settled in, it was over. The sermon was a prerecorded video too which was a bummer especially for my first time. I signed up for their communications, which was nice in the beginning, but quickly felt spammy. I'm sure the community is lovely! I just don't think this place is for me.

I've been attending since summer 2007, and, through years of expected and unexpected changes, I've…read morefound that Reservoir Church has remained accessible to those with a lot, a little, or no organized religious background ("Christian" or otherwise) with the central unifying theme of a benevolent God who is eager to connect with us individually and as a community, simply and helpfully, in our daily lives. Sunday morning service comprises free coffee and bagels, welcoming smiles, and a simple program. But, if the talks are thought-provoking and applicable and the music uplifting and participatory, the real opportunity to maximize your experience is to engage the community: chat with a seat mate after service, attend a class or a weekly small group, help out on a Sunday morning team, or volunteer with community outreach such as the local summer youth "Soccer Nights" (totally according to your comfort and availability)! By and large, the community is diverse, smart, scientific, artistic, networked, compassionate, old, young, curious, humble, hopeful, and committed. One of the mainstays for me has been the safe place to get (and offer to others) dynamic prayer (for literally anything and everything). Say hi if you visit!

I am writing this review so others are aware of the experiences of some, so potential attendees and…read moremembers can make a holistic decision about whether or not to attend and commit their time, resources, and relationships to this church community. I will also self-disclose that all I write here I have brought directly to Steve Watson (Senior Pastor), Trecia Reavis (Executive Pastor), Ivy Anthony (Director of Community Life), and Lydia Shiu (Director of Social Justice). I will focus on stating facts vs offering commentary. It's too long to rehash the details of 7-8 years, so I will provide two select examples. When my father passed away suddenly after a ~20 year struggle with illness and increasing disability in May 2019, I received a text from Steve expressing his condolences and apologizing he could not attend the Sunday memorial services. After that, none of the pastoral staff reached out to me directly other than to comment on my social media postings processing my grief. After an extended time of grieving and letting the staff know about my sense of hurt/disappointment and confusion at navigating a major personal loss without pastoral care, I was told that the norm and expectation is that my community group members and friends were tending to me: the pastoral staff would not be able to directly care for congregants in these ways given the large attendee size of the church. Furthermore, if I needed more engagement, I should initiate to schedule a meeting. The staff will often offer times to connect during business hours, when many adults are working. After the church leadership decision to lay off a long time staff member in 2025 with limited congregation communication, lack of community dialogue, and low process transparency, I made the decision to attend services elsewhere. After nearly 5 months of absence on Sundays, I received an email from Steve noting this and asking me not to attend a meeting that was scheduled to "heal" and "reconcile" after the aforementioned lay-off. Rather than calling or reaching out to check in if I was okay, I was sent an email to make it clear I should not attend what was announced as an open meeting if it was not my intention to continue my Sunday attendance. Ultimately, I was able to make my case to attend by insisting on speaking to Steve and articulating that it is unhelpful to delineate "insidership" and "outsidership" in this way given the intention of the gathering. There is more that I can write, but I will leave it here to allow others to make their own decision about the church.

Within the last several years it combined with Trinity Lexington highrock and as a result also has a great community for those 55 and over called Crescendo. If you want to learn more about it, drop into the Mill Cafe Tuesday through Saturday or check out a service on Sunday at 8:45 or 10:45 in the morning on Mill St in Arlington. The same staff also supports Metrowest church in Needham. There are small groups studying many topics as well as activities for Moms, Women, Men, Korean and Japanese folks. Sermons are translated into Chinese and Spanish as well. Hope to meet you there.

I found this church with a Google review (super spiritual, right ?) and have been attending for 16…read more1/2 years. It has been an incredibly loving support to me and my family. This church is very diverse. Almost like an international church! You will find at least one of every type of person in this church, from super orthodox to super progressive, from brand new immigrants to long time New Englanders, wealthy, poor, and everything in between and everyone has an interesting (and often unexpected) backstory, including the head pastor who grew up in Concord, attended Harvard and has adopted 12 children from four continents! The church is thriving with many different ministries in low income neighborhoods in Arlington, supporting students with disabilities at the high school, prison ministry, ministry to Japanese expats in Boston, wonderful Sunday morning, classes for children and a robust youth group with an internship program for highschoolers. A stand out value is vulnerability. People are very honest about their weaknesses and you will not find fake church culture here. This is a very healthy, loving group of people, trying with all their hearts to know God, and make the world a better place.

What about a current review based on actually ATTENDING a 10 AM service on Sunday, from someone who actually went INSIDE the place? lol I'm a transplant to Boston and I loved this church from the first time I attended several years ago. It's an old building, not very fancy inside (although there are some beautiful stained glass windows) but it is mainly about the people. I have found a welcoming community and enjoyed the sermons. My husband used to only attend church on Easter and Christmas but he now attends regularly because of the pastor, Tom Griffith (great guy). Tom is currently holding a series of discussions welcoming all to come and respectfully discuss SEX. C'mon, how many pastors do that?! I am just happy we found a church my whole family likes. They have a wonderful Sunday school program for children and a nurturing nursery for infants. I really hope this review gets posted, I see 14 others have not.
