I can't begin to describe the awful care I have received from numerous providers associated with First Physicians Group. They are hard to get a hold of, the front desk staff is rude, and the CARE is deplorable. If the doctors that I saw are representative of the quality of all doctors, I fear for the future of medicine in this country. I thought that my GI would be my saving grace, but then I was disappointed. They send you to the hospital for "convenience" and then I was saddled with a large bill from the hospital that my insurance wouldn't cover (normally bloodwork is ALWAYS covered, but they did not warn me that they were coding it as a specialist appointment and that it would be very expensive. Even more frustrating, they didn't even follow up on my bloodwork until over a month later. These doctors should all be ashamed of themselves. It is obvious they don't truly care about their patients. This is a terrible facility. Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE else. read more

They sent a bill to collections because I didn't answer to their first reply for payment they sent in two days after service lol while in the hospital still ... seriously it's been less then 30 days, beware they trying to mess people's credit up on purpose & the lady who answers the phone is RUDE , I tried to tell her I was still in the hospital and am now getting their bill and she's said its already in collections. The North Port doctor is retiring for health reasons. The people on the phone talking to long time patients are completely uncaring and just want callers to go away! Worst treatment I have ever experienced when calling a doctors office! Call me back after you do a home COVID test. I call back and no one can help go to Urgent Care for your sinus infection. My Gyno made the recommendation of Dr. Workman as Primary Care, the first appt for new patient was 3 months out. I made it, the appointment was confirmed by their office a few times, I showed up with a stack of medical history forms they mailed to me, both when the appointment was made and by the receptionist before I walked in confirming my ins. co. I spent an hour for an exam and on my way out they said my United Health Care Golden Rule (PPO) was not accepted by their office anymore. A complete waste of time because the communication in the office is not good, I should have been notified. I was notified they are no longer seeing sick patients. I ended up paying a huge sum for urgent care that my insurance doesn't pay for to be seen by an MD for an infection I had. How outrageous. This was after ending up at Tampa General last year because Dr. Workman was out of town and they would not let me see another doctor there. I explained I had a fever for an unknown reason and to please call me back. Days later I got a voicemail which the girl said "Here's you call back." They could care less about anyone. You show up on time but you'll wait 45-60 mins every time before you get called back. No respect for your time and heaven forbid you ask them for an ETA. I agree with the other posters - this is the WORST excuse for physician care. They care nothing of me as a patient and rush me in and out so fast I don't even have time to tell them why I am there. I had x-rays ordered - by them - and the Dr never went over the results with me. He "forgot" and when I called back to find out I got the run around for two weeks. Never heard back, never received my results. Avoid this practice! Find another group. read more

Dr. Barry Stein was my mom's GP for 13 years. For the last three, I have lived with and cared for my mother, whose health was clearly in rapid decline. I called Dr. Stein about a year and a half ago to explain to him just how sick she was, as she had serious trouble adequately advocating for herself. She was constantly canceling doctor appointments. She couldn't get out of bed. She didn't leave the house for a week at a time--sometimes more. She was forgetful and disorganized. She had zero energy and was in constant pain. I pled with him--in a voicemail--to help me get her to speak with a therapist or a counselor or a social worker. He left his reply on my voicemail: "Samantha, I can't make your mother go to therapy." In reality, Mom was suffering from severe angina due to massive mitral valve leakage. We didn't find out until it was too late. She died in April 2016 at age 66 after complications from open heart surgery. She never held a grandchild. She never got to see the mountains one last time. To Dr. Stein she was just another old lady. She would go in and tell him "I'm fine" and he'd look at her crippled, 70 lb. frame and just accept "fine" as fact. Even knowing her long and complicated history with heart disease. My words fell on deaf ears and now a beautiful woman is dead. I should also mention that my mother was significantly disabled and had extreme difficulty walking. These last few years we were unable to go out and do the things she liked to do because she would become too tired and it was too painful to walk even short distances. I asked Mom to request an Rx for a wheelchair so we could go shopping together. When she came home from her appointment she said Dr. Stein told her she "wasn't ready for that yet." The woman could barely hobble across a room, but hey, what do I know? I was just the person who spent every day with her. Additionally, after her death, every single one of my mother's medical professionals and specialists reached out to me and my family and sent sympathy cards with kind words about my mother and how much she will be missed. Except for First Physicians, her primary care facility of 13+ years. I would NEVER recommend this office to potential patients. The wait time is absurd--in the office--and on the phone to schedule an appointment. The hold music itself will drive a person to contemplate suicide. And don't expect much personal attention as they are rushing people in and out all day long like they're trying to fill quotas. If you have an elderly parent or loved one in the Sarasota area, take them elsewhere for their medical needs. read more

I have been trying to find a primary care physician for months. After submitting online requests to about a dozen or so of their doctors indicating they are accepting new patients, I finally received a voicemail from someone two days ago (on a Saturday) indicating they could accept me. I tried to call back immediately, but they do not have office hours on Saturday and I could not leave a message. When I called on Monday (today), I was told they could not take me as a new patient and the message was either a mistake or I misunderstood. When I offered to send them the voicemail, the person became very indignant and hung up on me. Most unprofessional office I have ever encountered! Zero stars. read more

My Rezum procedure by Dr. Kenneth Bregg appears to have been unsuccessful. I did not want to discuss this by way of a video conference. I realize we had a virus problem. However, since I do volunteer work at a local health facility, I have been vaccinated and my temperature was monitored. Nevertheless I waited like I was told for June to get an in person appointment with Dr. Bregg. I had to call and was informed Dr. Bregg was retiring. I have subsequently learned that is not true. I am moving on to another urologist. To see I am displeased is an understatement. I would have sent this review to Hippocrates, but he had been dead for centuries. read more

Dr. Dunn has been my GP for about 13 years now and he is fantastic. I absolutely love him. His bedside manner is amazing - I've gone in feeling sick as a dog and yet had a smile on my face when I left. He's extremely knowledgeable, friendly, funny, easygoing, straightforward, and honest. He explains ailments clearly and involves his patients in treatment in a way that makes it clear and understandable. Dr. Dunn manages my chronic back pain extremely well, which is very challenging; he was my husband's attending during a very frightening and lengthy hospitalization and was excellent in every respect - from managing his care to calming a very worried me. The only reason I don't give five stars is because of one woman in the office who seems to go out of her way to be as difficult as possible every single time I have dealt with her. Even something as simple as scheduling an appointment becomes a challenge when Liz is on the task; and I've heard from a few other people who are patients at the practice that they've had similar experiences with her. Were Dr. Dunn not so super then I would probably have changed clinics a long time ago just to avoid the snarky, superior and combative attitude from her. Bottom line though, I highly recommend Dr. Kevin Dunn to anyone. Fantastic primary care physician. read more

I just recently moved to Venice and needed to find a good doctor. I was referred by another doctor to First Physicians Group in Venice. I called to see when I could get in to see a doctor. I was told I wouldn't be able to get in until the first part of June. Since this is the 26th of February, I guess I'll look else where. It's pretty pathetic when they say they are taking new patients and put you off for almost three months. As far as I'm concerned, doctors are like used car salesman. Some are good and some are not. I recently relocated to the area and was in search a new doctor. I was having difficulty finding an office that could give me an appointment less than 4 weeks out. Dr. Montoya came highly recommended so I decided to give him a try. I was I able to get an appointment within 3 days! The office staff was very informative, pleasant, and welcoming. Nurse Andi was personable with a great sense of humor. Dr. Montoya was great! He was very attentive to my concerns and made recommendations without "just writing a prescription to move on to the next patient". He also had an awesome sense of humor. The staff definitely made the experience a great one. I would not hesitate to recommend his office to others. read more

I've never felt like more of an inconvenience and please don't get sick before your annual appointment, they will tell you to go to the ER or try to schedule you in weeks later. As a 27 year old who just relocated to Florida from Idaho, with a very complicated history of Crohn's disease, First Physicians Group was recommended to me by a coworker. I did my research on the gastroenterologists within the practice, and decided to try and set an appointment with a doctor to establish care. After about 6 weeks of living in Florida and 3 weeks into a new career, my health insurance will not be effective until after 60 days of employment. I am on a high-risk biologic medication, and have been for about 15 years. When contacting First Physicians Group, my goal was simply to establish myself with a new gastroenterologist before I ran out of my medication September 1. Even if Dr. Chun, the physician I wanted to establish with, was the best gastro doc in Florida, I would go elsewhere due to the way I was treated by the representative I spoke with at First Physicians Group. As a bachelor of science, someone with a legal background, and as a worker in the healthcare field myself, I explained my situation to the representative in every way, shape and form I could. With much back and forth, and a discourse that ended in the representative abruptly hanging up on me, I learned that I could not set an appointment until I had active insurance after my 60 days of employment. In lame man's terms, I could have been a millionaire off the street looking to pay cash, in critical condition, and I would have been refused treatment. The detriment of not having my prescription refilled would likely involve a Crohn's relapse, and likely sepsis; not something I ever imagined any gastroenterologist office to see past. If the tables were turned and I was the provider, the liability I could face for consciously delaying treatment and allowing my patient's condition to worsen would seem to outweigh the risk of the patient's inability to pay. As someone with a strong moral compass who always tries to give people the benefit of the doubt, someone who is blessed to have a great job with generous benefits, and someone who always tries to treat people the way I'd want to be treated, I found my experience today to be revolting. Needless to say, the 1-5-star scale is not adequate in that it does not encompass the negative-star review I would leave. It is apparent that I learned more from my undergraduate bioethics class than any of these providers did, if this is the way they are running their practice. Shame on you! read more

I made an appointment to see a specific PCP at First Physician's Group. This was the PCP I selected on my plan due to his credentials and ratings, who according to his office staff was accepting new patients. I arrived at my appointment to find that my PCP was on vacation, and that they had scheduled me to see a different doctor. That doctor sent me to a specialist for a condition that the specialist did not specialize in. When I subsequently tried to make an appointment with the original PCP to be referred to a different specialist, the office staff told me that the guy they had switched me to needed to approve my switching to a different doctor (even though that doctor was the one I originally made an appointment with) and that they would call me back about his decision. Question for First Phyicians Group: 1) If you didn't need my permission to substitute a different doctor in place of the guy I specifically made an appointment with, then why the heck do I need your permission to see the doctor I asked to see, and who you originally scheduled me to see? 2) Florida ranks very poorly in terms of the quality of the physicians it attracts and medical care and quality of service. I can say from having lived in 3 different US states and 3 different countries, and from having burned through no less than 5 doctors in Florida, that Sarasota is losing the race. However, the rest of the staff do not make me feel welcome and I waited 55 minutes to get in today (10 min early for my 2:00 appointment and then taken out of the waiting room at 2:45). Staff is extremely rude and disorganized. I can deal somewhat with disorganization, but i cannot deal with overbearing, insensitive, rude people, who do not give a krap. I have no idea how they lost my medical records a year after i have already been a seen patient, as i had to fax them over as a new patient, THEN BLAME ME for not sending them. Magically they found them after i got my previous doctor involved..what a logistical nightmare this place is. Billing is a constant nightmare, dont ask the staff about billing, they are useless and rude. The wait time is to be expected, plan way ahead as you will be waiting atleast 45 to 60 min. with an appointment. I am leaving this Sarasota practice because the doctors don't really care for the patients - this is a corporate practice that cares about the payments only. Left with an unaddressed high cholesterol level, wavering thyroid levels and unanswered questions about them, I looked for another primary care physician. The care I received from his office staff from Rosa, my first contact , to Mallory, Dr. Fong's PA was comforting, professional and reassuring. My experience Post-op-surgery met the same standards as the Pre-op care. I am the second member of my family, my brother being the first, to have had the good fortune of Dr. Fong's experience, knowledge and compassion to take care of my heart needs. I had been going to this office seeing the same doctor for 15 years until this past week and I will never be back again. I have had no payment issues before in the entire time I was a patient and seen the doctors regularly. I went in for an appointment and my insurance company had made a mistake creating me 2 plans and cancelled the one which I had the policy information for. The billing manager was no help at all and would not let me see my doctor without paying cash for the visit while I waited for my correct information to be sent over. If you want a doctor with a rude front office staff who won't let you see a doctor when you are really sick unless paying her first due to insurance making an error then this is the place for you! No compassion nor care for patients including those who have ALWAYS paid and been going there for their entire adult lives. read more

Ugh, I broke out in a rash from medication and my old PCP would not give a steroid shot to stop the itching and rash from spreading. I was referred to this office by a friend and they got me in same day with a nurse practitioner. Reception staff were friendly and professional and the nurse put me at ease while giving me a shot. Dr. Montoya replaced Dr. Luvenberg who I have been going to for 25 years. Enjoyed having him as my doctor and put up with the disorganized and rude front office during that time. Todays experience will end my 27 years with First (?) Physicians Group. The office manager needs to be replaced with some of the other front office staff. Too bad for Dr. Montoya who is probably trying to build a client base being new to Sarasota. You are better off driving down the street 1/2 mile and going to the Sarasota Memorial walk in clinic where the office staff acts in a professional manner. read more

It turns put that if you call the administrative offices to give honest and respectfully delivered feedback about the long waits and rude front staff that you get thanked profusely for the feedback... And then you get fired as a patient. Say what!?!? Wow. SKIP THIS DOCTOR. SKIP THIS PRACTICE. They are awful. Wish I could leave negative stars. And I have NEVER said that I'd like to leave negative stars on a review. Go ahead, check out my other reviews and you'll see that most of them are 4s and 5s. First Physicians Group, take note: you have a HUGE problem with customer service and firing patients who give you honest and well-delivered feedback about it won't change the fact that you run an UBER mediocre practice. I would not be surprised if the next patient that you mistreat chooses to bypass your administrative offices and goes directly to the medical board and their attorney instead. You can't expect that if you praise a patient for their feedback and fire them right after for it to not have repercussions. Karma will get you, I'm sure. And if karma doesn't get you, I know that eventually you will mistreat the wrong person, who will make your life a living hell... Perhaps then you will remember my feedback and wished you had done something about it. Perhaps I will read about you in the news. Best of luck with that. Awful experience. A scheduled ultrasound to see/hear updates on ur growing baby ,is such a joyful time in life, sad to say one of the most joyful Moments in my pregnancy was ruined by this office. UT failed to inform or answer questions I had, leaving me clueless to how or even if my baby was growing correctly. Very little memorabilia of my first daughter. My 1 star rating goes to the management team at First Physicians. This is because these franchise practices are OBSESSED with money and volume. Patient value is literally non existent. For example, I was talking to a lady at the call center who is supposed to document phone calls. I realized something was wrong when the nurse left me a message stating they don't have the generic version of a birth control medication I've never taken before. Diane said she would send the medication i requested, but it's not covered by my insurance (i already told the call center that). I had Trish from the call center re-read the previous phone call note and I freaked out! THE ENTIRE PHONE CALL NOTE WAS BOTCHED! My healthcare isn't a joke and if you cant listen to what i have to say, then you should find another job. These notes are apart of my record and if i ever needed to reference something that i've spoken about, how can i trust that they're writing down the actual conversation? Trish fought me the whole way (customer service is non existent too). As i was asking to speak with a supervisor, she just put me on hold. While all this happened yesterday, I'm yet to hear from the supervisor, I don't have the medication i requested at the pharmacy and my phone call notes are 98% wrong (i'm surprised the nurse knew the conversation was about birth control).
