Adorable Catholic chapel located in the charming country town of Garrison, N.Y. St. Joseph's Chapel…read moreis run as a mission church of Our Lady of Loretto in Cold Spring, N.Y., and offers one Mass, a 10:15 a.m. service on Sundays. I'm assuming that most of the people who attend Mass here are Garrison residents and that they aren't schlepping in from Cold Spring - not that it's much of schlep, but whatever - although I'm not really sure. Anyway, this chapel is old, graceful and a lovely place to attend services if you are in the area and are so inclined. It's a small church, and was definitely constructed in another era. It's a charming white building with small stained glass windows and an antique-looking red door. I love old stuff - old art, old buildings, you name it - and this place definitely fits the bill. Once inside, you'll realize just how small this chapel is, because you don't get a complete sense of that from the outside. There is no center aisle; rather, there are three sets of pews and two side aisles. There is a set of pews located on each side of the chapel, and then there is a middle set of seats running down the center of the church where an aisle would normally be in another facility. The two side aisles separate the middle section of pews from the rest of the seating. The floors here are nice, warm-colored wooden planks, and the aisles have charmingly old-fashioned carpet runners. There are niches at the front of the chapel for the statues (very small and very nice), and the altar is tiny compared to what you would find in another church. There are two beautiful paintings that decorate the walls behind the altar. One is of the Virgin and Child, and the other is of St. Joseph, I believe. They are round portraits that were painted in a style that is not seen too much anymore. They struck me as having a similar style to Eastern Orthodox iconography, and the gaze of the figures is very direct. The Stations of the Cross here are very old and somewhat faded, but they still retain aspects of beauty. The stained glass windows are great. They don't make them like this anymore. They've got the standard stuff, as well as a window featuring St. Joan of Arc in full armor, a castle behind her. That cool little number is located by the stairs that lead to the choir loft. In the window, St. Joan is depicted raising her eyes, presumably towards Heaven, but the artist made her look as though she's simply rolling them in annoyance at the congregation. I know that I'm not supposed to laugh at religious art, but I got a kick of that one. Tee hee! Some things to note about St. Joseph's Chapel: it's a small space, so the choir will really sound at times like they're belting it out; the pew kneelers are hard as rocks; there is no parking lot, so be prepared to park alongside the road; and the chapel is directly across the street from the Garrison Fire House, so if the fire alarm goes off while you're here, it will wail away VERY loudly and you won't be able to hear a thing until it stops. But those are all minor caveats, in my opinion. All in all, if you're in the neighborhood on a Sunday and want to swing by St. Joseph's Chapel, it's probably worth your time. It's such a pretty little church and is hard to resist.

There are a lot of churches in Newburgh and whatever your background is or church preference (i.e. baptist, Pentecostal, etc) you're sure to find something in the area. This is a small African American church I was invited to and I found it to be really, really small in terms of congregation size based on the number of attendees I saw during my visit. I found it to be filled with God loving people, pastors message was on point with biblical truths and overall a nice small church if that's what you're looking for. Often times people looking for a new church home know what size congregation they want. Some want really small churches like this one that tend to be more "family" oriented because of the small size while others are looking for what I call "mega" churches were they simply attend, warm a seat and get lost in the shuffle avoiding intimate relationships with the general congregation. It's all a personal preference and if you're looking for a new church I hope you find that perfect match. My experience at this church was super positive, my only complaint is the music and sound system was insanely loud. Otherwise, check it out for yourself and decide if it's the fit for you're individual needs.

It was very strange that I received the card with daily prayers that I can give in remembrance. My friend in Kentucky a month or so ago asked me to pray and send cards to her son that was fighting colon cancer. I started writing to him and he enjoyed cards from me. Yesterday at 9:38am he passed away in Louisville where he lived. I heard from his mother on Saturday he didn't have much time. But I certainly was shocked that yesterday I found the remembrance card in my mailbox. It will be perfect acknowledgment for my friend (his mother). He was a young man and just married in 2022. It's also very strange I just reviewed Ford Motor Company. When I wrote the Ford review I didn't know this young man worked at Ford. He also asked all of us to write to Senator Mitch McConnell regarding funding for clinical trials. His medical team had to find alternative treatment when he could no longer participate in the clinical trials. Funding is necessary for friars missions and doctors medial! Naturally I have supported the Franciscans. St. Francis was always my favorite Saint. If you get to Garrison you may want to visit the center. I'll continue to support financially as I can. They sure are spiritually connected with me. The card was timely.

There is a tall, broad, old man, not fat at all, with a long white beard and long white payos that…read morewalks in and out of the main KJ guys Mikvah (main Yeshiva/Synagogue building) countless times every Friday afternoon wearing a long black coat and a white shirt that stays dressed the entire time and stares for very, very long amounts of time at naked guys and naked kids while they are showering and while they are inside the Mikvah. He routinely stands near each Mikvah and goes out of his way to stare inside the Mikvah water for very, very long amounts of time. This is extremely CREEPY and scary, and inappropriate, and this MUST end immediately. It is believed that both guys and kids feel sexually abused, uncomfortable, and turned off, by the extended routine staring actions of this extremely scary, creepy individual. On Fridays, when he is not inside the Mikvah facilty, he often sits in the back of the main KJ Bais Medrash.

Judaic library downstairs in unbeatable and heavenly. World class mikvah, coffee room, classes etc. Even a sefardic minyan on shabbos downstairs to make sure everyone is comfortable. I came to listen to some beautiful Christian music a message from the of God and bless and encourage all who were there. I was in for a a pleasant surprise, when I entered the church felt such an anointing, a special presence of the Lord. The congregants, the Pastor, his wife and family were so warm caring and genuine, as Christians should be. The presence became more intensely joyous and jubilant because the Pastor let the spirit of the Lord Jesus dictate and lead the church. It was a breath of fresh air to sing the old and newer gospel hymns and today hear the word of the Lord singles in song. I left not just blessed others as I knew I would, but was overwhelmingly blessed not only emotionally, physically- because I asked for prayer, but mostly spiritually I met the Lord in a special way with a presence I have not felt in a long time. I am going to visit again. I haven't felt such love, such realness in spiritual leaders in a long time. I would highly recommend you to visit Turning Point, if you want to see what real Christians are like and experience the presence-the anointing- in a new and refreshing way. I caught the tail end of the Palm Sunday services at this quaint little chapel in Montgomery. I…read morewasn't feeling so hot so I didn't end up staying very long, but I stayed long enough to garner a positive impression of this kindhearted Episcopal congregation. Built in 1903, this chapel served for years as a mission church of a larger Episcopal congregation, St. Andrew's, in the nearby town of Walden. Until the past year, when the chapel became its own independent congregation, it operated under the name "St. Andrew's Chapel." They changed their name to honor St. Francis of Assisi when they became a congregation in their own right, although the attached church hall still retains the St. Andrew's name. St. Francis of Assisi hosts one Sunday service - at 9 a.m. - and since I was up at that hour and in the neighborhood, I swung by for a visit. I'd always been curious about the diminutive green chapel in the heart of Montgomery and was glad to have an opportunity to see what they were all about. Upon opening the front door, I found myself in a very small vestibule facing the door to the actual church itself. The door was of dark wood and had a palm frond hanging on the front. This door was pretty solid and I couldn't hear anything that was going on in terms of the service, and I must admit that I was fairly nervous as I turned the doorknob and entered the church. Had I missed the service? Would I be disturbing the congregation? The church itself was extremely small, brightly lit, charming, and, as I quickly discovered, very welcoming. Counting myself, the priest and the girl who was acting as the altar server, there were only 15 people in attendance at the Sunday service. It was definitely an older congregation - I'm estimating that the altar server and I were the youngest people there by about 15 years - but they seemed to be a warm little group of people. Since I wasn't feeling so great and didn't know whether or not I would need to make an early exit - which, unfortunately, I did - I stood in the back so as not to disturb anyone. However, two people made it known that I was more than welcome to sit down. A nice member of the congregation, whose name I believe was Joe, introduced himself and presented me with a welcome booklet that gave some information about the church, which was very much appreciated. What I witnessed of St. Francis of Assisi's Palm Sunday service was quaint and lovely. The priest, Rev. Jan Nunley, radiates warmth and has an obvious affection for her small congregation, which they appear to return. The order of the service was similar to other Episcopal services I have attended, and when it came time to give the sign of peace, Rev. Nunley was right out in the aisle shaking hands and greeting everyone. Music during the service was provided by an organist and a congregant who played the flute. Whoever said simple was bland and boring wasn't paying attention. St. Francis of Assisi isn't a grand chapel, but those who like quiet havens of repose will appreciate the chapel's pretty windows, such as the one that depicts St. Francis preaching to the birds, as well as the modest altar. I wish I could have stayed for an entire service, but the next time I'm in the area I might stop by again. A Christian prayer attributed to St. Francis asks the Lord to "make us instruments of peace." What with the nice welcome I received and the warmth that appears to bind together the people who worship within its walls, it seems that St. Francis of Assisi Church is succeeding in doing just that.
