My wife and I were members of this church for over 11 years. I was a member of the church's…read moreresponse team (security and medical response). We really liked the pastor. We had seen more recently, specifically in 2018/2019 that the church was beginning to take a concerning direction. Politics began to rear it's ugly head in our church. Our pastor would pick specific people to run, and exclude others who were willing and eager to be on the ballot for church council (elders, deacons, trustees, etc.). Our pastor preferred to have a tight control on the church decision making, rather than consulting with the regularly attending members of the congregation and asking for their input. In March of 2022, "our church counsel" (according to our pastor) voted out of the blue to get rid of our church library. The congregation was not consulted or polled prior to this, nor was our church librarian. Our church librarian and congregation found out the Sunday after the library was dismantled that it ceased to exist, books were on tables in the back of the church for anyone to take. This was quite a shock to everyone, since our library was a great resource for Christians to use. Many of the books that were in the library were donated by members of the church. The space is now a "welcome center," meaning if you would rather talk and socialize instead of going into the sanctuary to hear the sermon the welcome center is for you. Another concerning area is that we have a paid part-time childrens director position. A member of a church is to give their gifts and talents to the lord. I have been a member of the response team, since these areas are of talents and skills of mine, I don't expect or want to be paid for it. No position in a church should be paid except for pastor(s) and custodian(s). Earlier this year, my father on two occasions attempted to confront our pastor in reference to concerns he had about our church's direction. Both times my father was told in a rather disrespectful manner from our pastor that he didn't really know what he was talking about. The final straw was this morning. Our pastor always heads to the back of the sanctuary to greet people who are leaving the congregation, I walked out prior to him arriving at the back of the sanctuary. I had just walked out the door and I could hear my pastor loudly calling my name twice inside the building, then he walked out the door and called my name two more times in the parking lot. I turned around and he tried to hug me and he told me he loves me. I did not embrace him and I responded "ok." I was so extremely embarrassed and angry. If someone wants to leave, don't pursue after them, and don't ever yell out their name for all to hear. My pastor made up my mind right then and there, we will never return!! The true gem in our church is our associate minister, he is amazing and approachable. He truly overflows with God's love. I can now say that I no longer have any interest or desire to ever attend a church again. I will continue on my journey with Christ, by reading God's word, instead of being deceived by a fake "man of God."
