We were given an estimate for about $3,300 based upon an estimated 534 cubic foot move. We were told we'd get a Friday afternoon pickup and then weekend delivery. They gave the contract to Mosley Van Lines who picked up our furniture on Friday night. While loading, Mosley said that the estimate was probably too high and that we'd owe less than the estimate. After the truck was loaded at 1:30 a.m., we were told that our furniture took up 1400 cubic feet, the cost would now be about $6,400, and that we would lose our $1,600 non-refundable deposit if we backed out. We had no way of verifying the 1400 cubic foot representation absent removing everything from the truck, which would take hours and it was already 1:30 a.m. On Saturday, we called First United & Mosley to get a delivery ETA. Both companies told us to our surprise that they never deliver on weekends. On Monday, Mosley delivered the wrong furniture. Then, the following Saturday (notably, on a weekend), Mosley delivered our stuff. When Mosley delivered the furniture, it was clear that our furniture took up only about 720 cubic feet on the truck. I measured. Mosley refuses to refund the excessive charges that are clearly based upon fraud. For their part, First United claimed that they would be an advocate for me, but I don't think they have actually advocated for a refund. In fact, they seem rather defensive of Mosley's fraud or, at best, neutral. read more

Short version: Do not use First United Moving and Storage. You will regret the decision for the duration of your move and for months afterward. This is the worst company I have ever worked with in any capacity. Do not use their services. What First United sold as a product was miles away from what was received. There are some positive reviews of the company, especially for local moves in Florida, I cannot speak to that, but as a long-distance mover, the only advice you need is to stay far away. The key service a broker should provide in a long distance move is arranging the transit and hiring good local teams---First United fails on both fronts. They ended up charging 150% of the original quote ($3000 vs $2000) and the contractor they used (Energy Moving) was horrible (look up their reviews). As I said, this is the worst company and worst service experience I have ever had---worse than cable companies, worse than used car salesmen, worse than any customer service experience you've had. It is actually difficult to find reviews for First United, but look at their Google reviews (search First United Moving and Storage), and My Moving Reviews if you want more confirmation to stay away. Do not move with First United Moving! Do NOT trust Ryan Franklin. He will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to sign the contract, and then screw you over in every possible way. Ryan told me, in writing, that if I paid extra, they would guarantee a delivery date of June 3rd. Come June 3rd, my stuff was still in a warehouse in California (I moved to NYC.) To make matters worse, once Ryan got my money, I never heard from him. The customer care women quit, and the others were ZERO help. RUN!!! Run as fast as you can away from this company!! I have every conversion with each person over the phone from First United Moving recorded. I can share with you verbatim what was told to me, as I recorded and then transcribed each conversation. This review is my review of TRAVIS. I started by talking to Travis, who told me he was the "Director of Operations" for the company. He was not in sales, therefore he knew more than any sales person, he could tell me exactly what will happen and guarantee a quote over the phone. After a 45 minute conversation with Travis, he lead me to believe that this company was good, and I could actually believe his words. He said "the quote I give you today is the absolute most you will pay! I personally guarantee that movers will Not show up at your house and demand more money." Yet - that is exactly what happened! Travis took the tim to guide me step by step through the process. I let him know we were selling as much furniture as we could prior to the move, and Travis talked through each piece of furniture. If I sold the 4 piece bedroom set, then it would save me $400 in the move. Or I could replace the furniture with boxes, my night stand would be 2 boxes, my armoire would be 6 boxes, etc. The move was set for a Monday. They called on Sat and said they would now have to come on Sunday. As though its not stressful enough, upping the pick up date by 20 hours had a significant impact. I was told "The movers will be there from 2-5pm." "Great" I said, "They will be here at 2pm and then it will take them 3 hours to pack, so we will be done by 5pm, correct?" It was confirmed "Yes, that is correct" The first call came at 3:30pm on Sunday, from a man speaking very broken English, telling me we was driving up from Portland and will be there in 30 minutes. 90 minutes later, the 2nd call came, same broken English driver letting me know he we 15 minutes away. 30 minutes later, 2 men drove up in a Penske box truck, no uniform, no indication of whom or where they worked, bleary red eyes, little to no English. 2 men, both exhausted as they both stated they just finished a big move in Portland and they were worn out! The men walked in and I greeted them with home made brownies. I thanked them for coming and asked what the first step was. The man looked at me and said "You pay me $1350 cash, OVER the quote, and then we can get started". The next 2 hours, were a complete disaster. Since Travis had provided his cell phone number to me, and assuring me "you can reach me anytime, please call if I can assist". After 10 phone calls to his phone number, a text was received that read "who is this". I then sent a series of texts asking for assistance. I never heard back. Travis has never called me. I have sent messages, emails, texts, and nothing. Travis will not reply to me nor will he speak to me. It has been 2 weeks, and still Nothing! The day ended with me asking the men to leave. I did ask them twice, they kept coming back Handing me their phone, and I spoke with YAMIZ. THey referred to him as "dispatch" but he told me he was the "Owner". I spoke over the phone with YAMIZ several times, yet the price never changed, or it went up. Finally, I asked if someone would contact me on Monday, after listening to the recorded phone calls with Travis. YAMIZ then asked "is a Man was there? A man will be able to help you with your finances and sort this all out". WHAT?! It's been 2 weeks, and the only communication received is an email, stating I cancelled and therefore they will not return the deposit. DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! My daughter hired these people to move her belongings. They were very unprofessional! The only communications were through one person there, the other 2 did not even speak English. Which explains why they didn't respond to any of my questions. MORE! then what she was quoted! She was assured her price would NOT go up for any reason! The belongings of another move were in the truck and very loosely fitted in. They were NOT secured properly as the strap that was holding it up, was loose and sloppy there for allowing things to move around. Their mattress was folded over in half at the strap. Had it been packed properly, this would not have happened. In the end, the driver up and left the premises, with out any words to me at all. Just left. Didn't even try to fix the problem! Refused to call his superiors. Who does that?! When I asked him one more time to call some one, he got in the truck and left. Customer service was called, no one answered the phone. they did return my daughters call a few minutes later. Apparently the drivers were suppose to call CS and let them know of their arrival. They did not follow protocol. I could go on about a few more details that happened how ever this is long enough. END POINT, United's idea for resolution, was to let them move her at a discount price, refuse to give her money back, even though it was their fault! Talk about POOR customer service! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone! Even if they only gave her half her money back, it would have shown something. but NO! THey want her to still use their company. Run as far as you can from this company. They are a broker, but do not tell you that. The initial phone calls will be very pleasant and helpful. I spoke to Brett Blair. I was moving from TX to PA. I informed Brett that I was mostly moving boxes and plastic totes. The only piece of furniture coming with me was my simple queen size bed. Brett asked what my best quote was a beat the quotes from other respectable companies. I should have known then to run away. It was too easy and too good to be true. Brett went on to inform me that I, "had extra room to bring even more furniture if you want." Well that turned out to be a lie. They will say ANYTHING to get you to sign with them. You'll pay your down payment and feel great about the quote. Then it spirals down fast. It's been just about a month since my belongings were picked up. Even that was painful. I had to leave for a job interview so a good friend of mine was at my apartment for the pick-up. The men had no uniforms and were in a Penske rental truck. I was informed i had to pay them. But then spoke to First United and was told I would pay in full on delivery. They loaded my belongings very roughly and with no organization. I'm scared there will be a lot of damage to everything I own. From the pick-up day, every few days I'd get a call from the "Driver" asking me for money. The driver who did not speak very good English would yell and curse at me. Every few days. But when I would call First United, they'd tell me that they have no control over their subcontractors. Also, the staff at First United has been amazingly rude. Every phone call. That's if you can get in contact with them at all. They started to hang up on me. Fast forward to today. I was told last week my delivery would be made between 1 and 3 January. When that didn't happen I would call and was then told that it would be either the 4th or 5th of January. I just heard from the driver that my delivery would be tonight, between 5 pm and 8 pm. But here's the worst part. My original quote doesn't matter, apparently my deposit I paid doesn't matter either. I have to pay just shy of double my original quote. And what they do is wait until they have your belongings so you HAVE to pay them. The movers actually showed up last night. They were an hour late. No professionalism, not company truck or uniform. They were in a Penske rental truck. One of the two guys, the guy in charge, was too busy smoking to really do the job. The most infuriating part is that when we went to do the paperwork, he didn't realize that I had a picture of the original contract from TX. They obviously wrote other numbers on top of the original price to try to get even more money from me. I called him out on it and after a long phone call with his boss, I didn't have to pay all of the additional amount. But I still paid entirely too much over my original quote. If you are using this company, be aware that they are just a broker. You wouldn't be able to know what company they would match you. And once they get deposit from you, they won't care about what you might have to deal with. We were amazed how fast First United replies before they get deposit, and how slow they become after. Below is my review on the moving company that First United got us. We should've talked to the moving company directly, deeply regretful. -- The WORST experience ever. I unfortunately was not aware that I'd be using this company as I went through a broker (First United Moving), thus I had no choice. 1. They charged $500 more than the quote when picked up. (They said our stuffs were under "minimum" on the phone. We only had one furniture, a desk/shelf set. Other than this, most of them are "small size" boxes which eventually fit in two compact cars.) When we said we can't pay more, they said "Then we won't refund your deposit of $500. It's your choice!". 2. They offered $150 of discount as they changed the pick-up date, but it was never applied. Be aware that the numbers are different on their paper and the one you get via e-mail. We checked the numbers before signing on their paper, and assumed it'd be same on our e-copy. Well, we were stupidly wrong. Later they say "This number is on your contract". BE SURE to double-check. 3. They delivered our stuffs 12 days after the day that they first told us. (Pick up date was Aug 6, agreed delivery date was Aug 16, but we got it on Aug 28) We asked on the phone, but they did not pick up the phone (never called back), and when they finally picked up- said "It takes 21 business days." We've never heard that number before. Had we known this, we would've shipped our stuffs via USPS for cheaper prices. 4. As many reviews say, the driver asked "shuttle-service" fee of $350 when he delivered. We couldn't afford it as they already took more than they promised (the $500 overcharge plus no $150 discount), and had to pick up our stuffs from where 5 minutes away from our apartment, and moved boxes/furnitures by ourselves. Be careful, the driver came alone without crew, meaning that YOU are the one who have to do the hard job. Where did your money go, huh? 5. If you go through a broker as I did-- be aware that their job is done when you pay the deposit of $500. This didn't even accommodate all our items, despite the fact they knew EXACTLY what I had to ship...We had to use PODS for an additional container (RECOMMENDED). Instead of using this "Broker" who demanded $1500 in commissions for 15 minutes of time, save yourself the headache and contact a moving company (or PODS) directly and work from there. Horrible experience overall. We gave the team 4 weeks to plan the move and get their ducks in a row. On the day of pickup, they pushed our time from 9 AM to 9 PM. After they loaded their truck they gave us the new price point which was 500 cubic ft and $2,000 more than we were initially quoted. At arrival, the team showed up in an 18-wheeler (not the truck they picked up in). We were moving downtown and they were unable to park anywhere and did not make a plan. They came to pick up my stuff on Thursday, July 11th. The movers packed my things up carefully and quickly. They arrived within the appointment window. Everything looked good so far. I asked the driver when my belongings would arrive in Utah so I could make sure to beat them there and he said Monday, July 15th. Based on that, I left early and arrived in Utah on Sunday, July 14th. The driver did not arrive or even call on Monday, July 15th. I called the company that afternoon and they told me the driver would be there by the end of the week. No call/no show by Thursday, July 18th so I called again. This time they just told me it would be "next week". No date, not even whether it would be the beginning or end of the week. The customer service representative told me she would call me on Monday, July 22nd. Surprise, surprise, there was no call on the 22nd. I called them again on Tuesday, July 23rd. This time, they told me it would be the end of this week. It is now Friday, July 26th. I called today and now it will be "next week". Again, no specific date. Apparently, they can take up to 21 BUSINESS DAYS to deliver your things and they do not have to give you an ETA. I have no idea where my furniture is. I suspect it may be lost. I sincerely doubt I will receive my furniture next week. Do yourself a favor and hire another moving company. TLDR: Company made me pay $900 over their moving estimate. They sold me enough space to move basically one chair and it was not until the day I was moving that I was aware so with boxes packed standing outside my house I had to pay $1500 more just to get a fraction of my belongings on the truck. I left the majority behind. Then when it came to deliver they said they cant make it down my street, where I see trucks come in and out all day, so they have to move my belongings on to a smaller truck and that will be $350 more. I wish I had sold or even tossed my belongings and bought new, it would have cost me alot less. The $300 brand new chair is missing along with 2 totes. There is no resolution. This goes on each week. They said it was based on "weight" and then changed it to cubic square feet and quoted me one price then literally said it would be DOUBLE once everything was already packed in their van. First I am old and alone, these people took advantage, they quoted my inventory as 1088 sq ft. and charged me $4,691.73 per cubic ft. so I gave away all yard equipment a bedroom set and an expensive new dinette set. among other stuff. And I pack what few things I kept. the charged me for boxes, and building a crate ($100) for my tv. They did not box or build a crate. the lowered the price after I gave my stuff away to $4,200. When a sub hauler for First United Moving and Storage, (Cheetah Movers) picked it up they wrapped what furniture I had left in blanket including my 72 in TV, after they loaded it he hit me for another $1,000. Is that fair no. And you have to have cash or a cashier's check, I gave cash. I had enough money to pay 1/2 for pick up and 1/2 for delivery. Now I will have to find some more money for the day its delivered. Thi was picked up on 8/12 and this is the 19th. I still don't have my things. While moving companies in general tend to not be great business, First United is clearly the worst with liars and cheats throughout. I worked with Travis Scott who completely made up his title of Director of Operations (his LinkedIn page and email signature don't match). He blatantly lied to us telling us that our move would be based on weight and not cubic feet. We asked over and over again if it would be weight and he said yes every time we asked. Our estimate didn't even have a quote for how much it would cost per cubic feet. So of course on moving day, some movers show up and say they do not ever work on weight and that we would be charged based on cubic feet (which we specifically did not want). When we called customer service to inquire, they told us that "it's the same thing" which is clearly ridiculous. We asked for our deposit back since they did not deliver the service we requested (a move completed by weight) but they of course refused by lying and saying they did, which they clearly did not. They pick up your belongings, the original estimated costs doubles and triples from what First United reeled you in with (usually a low, to good to be true offer). Customer service is a joke, they take your money and that's it. Anyone that is having issues with this company or their scam carrier, do your research and look up the company's DOT# with the FMCSA website while you're on there and file a complaint. It literally makes me ILL that this company and the Carriers they subcontract out, could put a family through such a disaster of a long distance move. Our belongings were picked up the end of May and here we are in July and still no stuff, with a carrier that is revoked (out of service) and no longer able to deliver out of state and First United as well as both carriers refuse to tell us where our belongings are even being stored, but continue to demand money. Furthermore, the carriers did not provide an inventory, or shipping papers. So please no matter what your circumstances are, avoid this company, avoid perfect movers and storage, avoid American Movers (both out of service/revoked). Do your research and choose a company that actually gets the job done and less of a hassle for the same price. Contracted with First United for an interstate move on memorial day. Without saying anything to us, they subcontracted it, and we never heard from them again. Their subcontractor Ocean Moving showed up on moving day, loaded the truck, then told us our 900 square foot apartment was over 120 boxes (I hadn't even bought that many boxes?) and demanded another $1000 and refused to take anything back off the truck or let us count the boxes ourselves to prove them wrong. They proceeded to either destroy or lose thousands of dollars worth of our stuff. They ripped the legs off of our Casper adjustable bed rather than unscrew them, which destroyed it. They ripped a keyboard stand apart rather than take out the screws. They mangled our laundry sorter and then threw it behind the fence on the side of our house. They cracked the mirror on my mirror-front vanity. Not a single one of our table lamps made it to the house. They're just gone. Only three of our four kitchen chairs showed up. Our kitchen table never made it here. This is just a very, very small amount of the things that were destroyed or missing by these people. The best part is the "so called" claims process where you spend two full 8 hour days painstakingly listing your mangled and missing items, their estimated value, serial numbers, model numbers, weight, dimensions, purchase date, etc, just to have their system "error" and you do the whole thing over again. When you finally get it submitted they email you every few weeks with an "its processing..." message and a dead link to "check your claim status." After that.... who knows? It's been since memorial day and we still only have destroyed furniture, dead links, and a "pending claim" to show for this cluster. And dont try to call First United. They will never ever call or email you once they've unleashed their subcontractors on your house. read more

Why then did I receive multiple text messages harassing me, telling me what a terrible person I am for wasting 4 hours of his precious time and deciding to not use his company to move me? How am I supposed to decide to use your company without a quote?!? I have never, EVER been treated so poorly by a person who is trying to earn my business. I would look elsewhere for a moving company, because if this is how they treat you while trying to get your business...imagine how they are going to treat you when they actually get your business.
