I walked in and asked how long it would be for a party of 2. One of the workers, a man who looked to be in his early or mid 20's, quoted me 15 minutes. I work in the restaurant industry, and have for 11 years, and I know how to quote a wait time. My friend and I upped and left because the wait time was over double what I was quoted. This place appears to prioritize Yelp check ins over people at the restaurant. Furthermore, my friend had tried putting her name on Yelp and it was booted off of the list twice. So you're relying on a "check in" that is unreliable. An older man had taken over seating at the front (after we had waited a double the wait time I was quoted) and basically told me it would have been at least another 10 minutes before there would be room for us. We weren't the only people confused about the long wait - one other couple left before us and another complained to the older man as well. I get that restaurants can be crazy, but you need to train staff better and maybe consider using a different system than Yelp for call aheads. read more

I have to say, it wasn't the best overall experience I had. I went there around 11ish, looking forward to breakfast. I didn't have to wait long. The staff, well, maybe they had a rough morning and just wanted to go home. I ordered the pancakes and bacon. The pancakes are big, you only need one, were very good. The bacon, you could tell had been sitting for awhile, it wasn't hot, but not cold either, it was barely warm, it was still good. The coffee was not fresh at all, it was the end of the morning sitting kind. Maybe I'll go again, I would like to try some of the other menu items they look delicious. I first ate at First Watch in FL and was delighted that it has come to DE. The food is awesome (avacado bacon omelette - yum!) and the service is great. There's usually a wait, sometimes a long one, so be prepared...but it's worth it! The food is a much higher quality than most breakfast places. read more

Beyond disappointing, on vacation so didn't get to this "coffee house" until 10 am. No customers in the restaurant. two people working at the counter, was just going to get two coffees and two muffins or danish but no muffins or danish so I order two cups of coffee and take two of the already made breakfast sandwiches. In a good mood so leave a 20% tip, 28 bucks for breakfast take out. No thank you but hey, ok. Go to the end of the counter, they hand me one cup of coffee and say they need to make another pot. Ok. it's a coffee house but no coffee, no worries, take the sandwiches and one cup of coffee to the table, go back to get the other cup. After standing there for app 5 more minute, they start making another pot of coffee. still no other customers but me. Finally the one associate tells me they need to remake the coffee yet again cause they are training. No apology, no offer of a refund. Twenty minutes in I had it. just left, won't be back. This place could learn a few things from Starbucks. I fully support small businesses but this was ridiculous, I would have been better off down the street at Wawa. If coffee shop can't provide coffee for 28.00 they should be ashamed and embarrassed, I think the owners may want to spend more time at the storefront. read more

Normally I love First watch.. loyal customer in Orlando, NC, Denver and when travelling. The people here are friendly but 2 different days I waited extremely long for my food 5 people seated after me received orders yet there I sat. The 2nd visit I finally just got up and left after 55 mins of waiting. They finally brought out half of the order while I was telling the cashier I simply couldn't hang out all day waiting for my food. She ran my card for the coffee which I thought was classless and then the manager came up and said he would comp my drink and recognized the issue. While i am happy that they rectified the situation... these folks need to pull.it together.. that was two days in a row of this service, I wrote it off the first time on new employees or just dumb bad luck but this crew needs to pull it together. read more

Everything was good and had a fresh taste. We ordered takeout the carrot pancakes are humongous and very good, even without the syrup. We also ordered the hash with sausage and two different sandwiches, the ham and gruyere melt along with the turkey. It delicious. First time here and the food was good. The waitress Taylor was outstanding. We had a big party and the service was great.

Imagine a breakfast: fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, coffee, etc. Now throw that dream away because is peasant food if it didn't come from first watch. Seriously this place has ruined eating breakfast anywhere else for me. My boyfriend and I have a very consistent tradition in our relationship of both being Ron Swanson. We love breakfast food more than anything. We've eaten at every breakfast food establishment in the "small wonder". They all pale in comparison to first watch. I'm not being dramatic or over selling This food is was and always will be amazing. Our meal: the lemon ricotta pancakes, 2 orders of million dollar bacon, French toast, 2 fresh juices, breakfast potatoes with onions and, coffee. We spent approximately 10.00 more than our average weekend breakfast dining experience (local diners, chains etc). It's worth it. My God is it worth it. First time at First Watch- crazy busy- pancakes were delivered without syrup and had to wait @20 minutes for the waitress to notice then another 10 to actually get the syrup- the server did hustle and the food was good (other than the syrup) Problem was the trash - overflowing trash can inside the front door and behind the hostess stand. I keep coming back for a reason. Always great food with great service. Even when they are extremely busy, they seem to always perform well. My only (very small) concern is that they are getting a little pricey as my omelette and pancake come to $20 out the door without coffee or a beverage. I have been torn about writing this review. I want the restaurant to get the accolades they deserve but I don't want anyone else to know about this hidden gem. The food is nothing short of amazing. Fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, I have yet to try anything I don't like. If you only knew how picky I was, you would be impressed. Give this place a shot, it is off to the corner but definitely worth the trip. First trip I had the ham and gruyere omelet and the second time I had biscuits and gravy. I go to the Newtown Square location often and always satisfied with my service which is why I continue to come back. Today however the Newark location was a complete mess. Apparently two people called out and the manager was in the kitchen cooking. My no wait app was irrelevant and it took long to be seated while several tables sat dirty. It took forever to get our food. Our server Taylor however was optimistic, upbeat, and very friendly and tried to make the best of a crappy situation. read more

First Watch is by far one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places. They serve both unique and traditional dishes. The food is delicious, and the ambiance is warm comfortable. I feel like giving First Watch a 4-star review is being a little generous, however, it deserves more than 3-stars. As far as the food concerned, it is definitely delicious. I've been here a handful of times and have enjoyed every meal I've had. The ambience is also nice and I appreciate having coffee and water available as we are waiting for a table. Where First Watch falls a little short is the service. Out of the 3-4 times I've been here, I've never had bad service per se, but it's never been exceptional either. I will say there has been a snag each visit, usually having to do with table set up (not having silverware until after the meal is brought, a long wait for water and coffee cups, leftover receipt from the party before us, etc.) Today, we had stacked an empty glass, along with a disposable cup from the coffee they serve in the waiting area, and the receipt from the party that used the table before us so that the server could easily pick it up as they walked past. It sat at the edge of the table for the entire meal. It seems the staff is too busy to do anything other than the bare minimum of taking your order and bringing drinks. I'm hoping that it is just because the restaurant is on the newer side and that service will continue to get better as the staff gets more comfortable. read more

Food was good, but service was terrible. We showed up around 12:30pm. When the food came out the friend I was dining with asked for another drink and she asked if she wanted it in a to go cup. When she brought the drink, I had only taken about 3 bites of my food and she asked if we wanted a box. I told her no thank you, we are still eating. She then proceeded to "check on" us every few minutes until we finally left. I could barely hold a conversation with the friend I was dining with. She dropped our check off minutes after we received our plates and were still eating. The place was practically empty with only two other tables and this was 2 hours before they closed. I've never felt so rushed and uncomfortable in a restaurant before. I have a lot of experience in the service industry and have never seen anything like it. When we kindly spoke to the manager about this, just so he could maybe talk to her about serving etiquette for future guests, he blew us off and basically made it clear our comfort in this establishment is not a priority. read more

Food was fresh, tasty and well plated however the service was so poor! We were seated and not greeted for 5 minutes. Savor your beverages because you will not be offered a refill the entire time. I was told I would receive toast with my meal. Said toast never arrived. Our waiter was nice but never checked back in to see how our meal was and had to flag him down for the check. Place seemed understaffed in general. But if your trying to work on your patience, have beverages with you and really enjoy the person you're eating with - this is the place for you!! read more

Went there yesterday were heard so much about it. Will we waited a long time for eggs and pancakes the waitress was rude I ask to check on our food after a half hour see said it's only been 8 minute deer it was much longer then that she was very rude then it finally came pancakes-so dry I needed a gallon of coifed just to finish them they were bad the egg dish was all potato no egg to bad because it's cute inside but the customer service was horrible they need to train people better read more

Went there for the first time to try it out. Nice atmosphere, place looked clean and nice. Now for the food, way over priced for one flat hard, dry pancake. Suppose to be two eggs scrambled, looked like half an egg, ordered pork bacon, so paper thin and undercooked, awful. All for the price of 15 dollars. The people I was with were not very happy either, eggs undercooked, one piece of dried out toast. One piece of French toast with fruit. Also had coffee and chocolate milk. All for 45 dollars. Come on, ridiculous. You claim cage free, farm fresh, just so you can jack up the price. Food was horrible, I will never come back, and I will tell everyone who asks me, not to go there. And I left still hungry. Went to wawa for a sandwich, which cost way less than the meal I ate. read more

I have been going to this location since it opened and always felt like the experience exceeds the last more and more! Just recently on 12/8/20 I took my sister there we had the Trifeca and the Italian breakfast. The wait staff was exceptional, very friendly able to give opinions on the menu and completely bring to the table all of the extras we needed. We had Karina-what a dream of a waitress, she exceeded our expectations, was sweet, friendly and able to understand/almost "read our minds" what we needed before we asked for things-she made our time there so easy, we did not feel like we had to stop our conversation to find her she was easily available but because she was so complete in her serving abilities our time there was very enjoyable!! The restaurant was busy with only a few table free which was nice to see people coming in and out and we did not feel rushed. Our food came out fast within 10 min and our drinks within a minute or faster! The food was presented beautifully on neat square plates that gave a vibe to clean bright esthetics. Karina came back to our table to fill drinks a few times we did not need to even look up she knew what we needed and swooped away-she was effortless in her serving which made us feel very well taken care of for our hour or so there. We will take advantage of the gift certificates for Christmas that they offer and will always choose this location for breakfast and lunch! The decor is quite nice in the restaurant but the food at First Watch is very underwhelming. I got special of a summer crab omelet. First there was very little crab on the "crab omelet". The lack of flavor from the omelet is masked by the excessive amount of Cholula hot sauce poured over the omelet. I could barely taste the hollandaise sauce. Their bread is actually quite nice but very over buttered. I highly recommend getting the butter on the side. My server Amanda was very quick to bring my bill to the table as if an excuse to no have to come back and ask if I needed anything else like more coffee or even a water. I was there for a total of 45mins and she only came to my table twice aside from seating me. Be prepared to pay $2.89 for a cup of hot coffee (prices are not listed on the menu) which doesn't even include a decent creamer, just International Delight creamer cups.
