Ok, so why the heck am I all kinds of "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" 5 stars about a bank? Well, let…read moreme tell you a little story... Stopped by this branch as I had found out they were one of the few local branches capable of foreign currency exchange. Going on a trip to Europe, I needed Euros, they have Euros. Walked in and was quickly greeted and asked the reason for my visit. He then escorted me to an adorably happy teller who was quick to help and understand my needs. While discussing the reason for my trip, she inquired as to whether I'd considered opening a "travel account" for my trip. I informed her I hadn't heard about this and she promptly ran (ok walked very quickly) to get me a banker. She introduced me to the banker who escorted me to his desk while I was assured by the teller she would finish our transaction and bring me my Euros. As I'm being escorted by the banker, he attempted to engage my 7 year old son who was with me- my son shyly answered his questions and we settled in at his desk. The banker (who gave me his card and I lost it!) quickly explained that a "travel account" is really just a second checking account, but the brilliance is that instead of using my main checking account for which I have multiple direct deposits established, use for bill pay, etc, I could have a second fully functional checking account to keep my "travel" funds isolated so should I have the misfortune of having my account breached while traveling I won't be forced to close my primary checking account. Genius I tell you! And with 0% fraud liability, I'd only be out as much money as I allocate to that account and don't have to worry about anything in my primary account. The banker was efficient, friendly and genuine. At one point, he brought over his manager to introduce herself; apparently this is something Wells Fargo is trying to do to keep a "small town" feel in their branches despite being a massive bank. She had observed that my son's account was nicknamed "SpongeBob" (his choice, of course) and was cute about engaging him in conversation about it. The banker then informed me everything was good to go, even with a new debit card in hand for my new account, and walked me to the door with a fist bump for my son. The whole experience was pleasant. And it took less than 30 minutes. The level of service was beyond anything I've ever experienced from a bank, let alone would ever expect. Wells Fargo as a brand seems to be working hard to show their customers appreciation and I noticed. Wow, did I notice!

Everything from this location went off smoothly and without and hesitation. The teller was…read morefriendly, polite and greeted me with a big smile, which was in itself helpful and pleasant. I was able to conduct my business in a fast and time efficient manner and be on my way in just a few mins. Good service all around.

While my problem originated at this branch-twice-this review extends beyond this location and my…read morerating is inclusive of the Chase bank system. To start with, I would recommend that you not bank with Chase. With their market presence that would be hard to do, much like hating the airlines but you still have to use them. I have been a Chase customer at least 6 years. My debit card was caught up in two of the big box retail stores' hacking cases. In both cases received email notification from Chase, followed by arrival of a replacement card in the mail. The notice included a date on which the "breached" card would deactivate if I had not activated the replacement card. The issue is that Chase Bank can't spell my name right on the card because they exclude certain characters from their card printing (not so with American Express). So my name is always compromised by Chase. But instead of contracting my name when they eliminate a character, they add a space. This makes it look like I have two middle initials and a last name that starts with the second letter in my last name. (EX: Will T M'Atamoro would turn into Will T M Atamoro). This results in mis-filing of my card when held for a tab and mis-pronunciation of my name at every establishment. Going into the branch to get a replacement card with my name spelled to properly (within Chase guidelines) has been an abysmal experience. The replacement cards show up with same or worse spelling. Replacing that misspelled card requires that my working card be deactivated (which was not the case with the first replacement card issued). I am left with at least 2 days of no debit card/ATM access to my money. In the first breach case, I was sent on a wild goose chase to another branch, only to find they couldn't issue me a same day replacement-or a temporary card. When I escalated my issue to a regional manager, she did not know how names are spelled on Chase debit cards case-wise (upper and lower case type) and worse, did not know how to spell my name. A 6 year customer and they hold all my money-and they are asking me how I spell my name. Cheese 'n rice! (I softened it for you). I have all kinds of words to describe Chase bank, none of them nice. It's like living with a boil on your neck.

I chose 1st Bank because they have ATM's everywhere, they offer free checking and they're close to where I live. These days, I believe that getting good customer service is a crap shoot. This 1st Bank is the exception to that belief. I'm impressed with this bank because every person I've ever dealt with has been very friendly, prompt and accurate. They don't have the most updated technology (you still use deposit slips), but it's a small inconvenience when measured against the service this branch provides. I worked in a bank 25 years ago. Since then, service levels in banks has declined so incredibly. This 1st Bank branch reminds me of the branch I worked at a long time ago. It's very impressive to see a high level of service provided consistently.
