It was Saturday evening and dinner time. When we arrived all the tables were full. But then we simply asked a couple at a table for four Idee could join and they said yes! Lucky for us. Although there is enough staff running around you have to order at the counter - hmmm a bit annoying but what are you going to do. I ordered lobster for two but unfortunately for us they were sold out! I was very disappointed. They only had crayfish left. So I ordered that and some spider crab legs. Everything is weighed and they tell how much it will cost. They prepare everything and take it out of the shells for you. The arrangement on the plate isn't very pretty but this is also not a restaurant so it's fine. The pricing is pretty good and it's very fresh! We had a great time and chatted with the couple who's table we joined. We drank too much wine, ate too much and went home very happy! Next time I will preorder some lobster and maybe not go on a Saturday evening at dinner time so that getting a table is easier :)

Got there around 7pm on a Monday and it was really packed. I was eating my myself and asked the hostess where to sit- she said I could sit at smallish table with two other German lads. At first, I thought, how can I do that? Wouldn't they mind? But then I had remembered that communal style seating is quite common in Germany, so it was quite alright. It also was quite rainy, but that didn't stop people from coming in and queuing up to eat. My German was quite rusty, so I didn't know what half the things were on the menu (German only). So I opted for the Fischmix which a lot of people seemed to have ordered and enjoyed both on Yelp and TripAdvisor. The Fischmix, which comes with 5 different types of fish including tilapia and salmon, was really good and tasty (also a little salty- as expected as mentioned by previous reviewers), but I enjoyed the flavors and the dipping sauces to add to the fish. The Fischmix comes with a side of sautéed vegetables, which I ate with each bite of fish with some of the dipping sauce. Also, each fish entree comes with a salad, bread that's topped with pesto, and potatoes (which I chose the "chips" option). Definitely a hearty meal and well worth the €11.90 for my Fischmix entree. I'd definitely want to come back here again sometime on another trip to Hamburg and try all the other fish dishes. Hopefully next time I'll have more time and pop by Karofisch again soon!

Food: We've tried everything from the filet mignon, to the salmon, to the mixed grill, a series of desserts, pulpo, scallops, you name it. They never missed. This place specialized in seafood, hence its name and it nailed every single dish. My wife literally dreamt about the salmon with the pea foam or whatever it was after the first time she had it. I would have preferred something acidic instead though, if staff had asked me upfront. Tradition dictates brown sauce or vinegar. I would have even arranged myself with ketchup though... if I had been asked. I was also surprised to find out that the fish chunks had burnt into the styrofoam box, which apparently wasn't fit for its takeaway purpose at all! Of course, this is another of those very German places with an opaque €10 minimum spend for card payments. €7.90 is quite ambitious for that kind of food so I would have expected credit card acceptance, but I had to part with my last tenner and receive old metal in return. To sum it up, it was probably edible but I was still kind of underwhelmed, as I've experienced much better service at other railway station food outlets. A little more professionalism wouldn't go amiss. Ironically this is an example of a corporate-run fast food outlet that is surpassed in quality by franchised outlets of the same chain. Berlin's central station Gosch is operated by SSP and accepts credit cards as well as mobile payments even for small purchases. And thus I'll take my custom elsewhere in the future. If you are booked for an ICE train, hold on to your cash and spend it in the train's buffet car where you'll likely have better value for money.

He's so attentive to his customers and makes a huge effort to entertain the entire restaurant. We got several free shots of alcohol and the entire restaurant toasts together. The atmosphere is cozy, festive, and lively. There was even a traditional guitar singer that serenaded us twice in the night. My favorite part of my four course meal was the parrot fish and the crème brûlée-like dessert. I'm not sure what it was, but it was GOOD. We also ordered a bottle of wine, which was 22 euros a bottle. I'd say the style of the food was Portuguese fusion. The fun part is that the chef decides what you will eat so you don't have to order your food. The fish that he served us was extremely fresh. I think this is a great place to go with some friends or to celebrate a special occasion like a birthday.
