That being said... I'm glad that we ended up in this campground. We only stayed here for one night so we could enjoy tubing down the Deerfield River during the day, and have somewhere to cook and sleep at night. This campground was perfect for what we were looking for and was much more quiet than the one I thought I was booking originally. I can't speak for all of the sites, but we booked site 21 and thought it was perfect. It's right on the corner of the access road and directly across from the bathrooms. Due to it being on the corner, it offered some privacy as we only had neighbors on one side who were a bit separated by trees. It was decent sized. We were able to fit two vehicles, two tents, and had enough space to sit around the campfire. The firepit comes with a grate which you can use to grill. Also the bathroom light stays on 24/7 which is helpful when you need to walk there in the middle of the night. The mosquitoes weren't horrendous either. For $17, it was great.

We camped there for 6 days this year from a Saturday. The Cold River (not too cold as the name suggests) runs parallel to a good number of campsites on the lower level of the park. We were camped 15ft away from a river which served as a beautiful backdrop that we could hear all day and night as it rolled over they my rocks that created small and medium pools that we swam/sat in. The bathrooms were clean and very close by which is useful with kids. There area by trails to hike or bike right in the campground area. The campground is also within very close driving distance to plenty if water based activities on the Deerfield River. We went on a guided inflatable kayak tour with CrapApple tours which was okay but for the money and freedom it is much better to buy/bring your own boat or inflatable float/tube and just float down the river. It is a gorgeous view and lots of fun. North Adams is a fast 20 minute drive and on a rainy day we took the kids out for ice cream and the scenery up route 2 was beautiful. It's Worth the ride to North Adams which is also home to Mass Museum of Contemporary Art. Mohawk was a great escape and we are already planning on returning next year.

Personally I'd like to see an option for those of us living in the Blackstone Valley (and others) to purchase an annual sticker. Similar to the way you might support a local zoo, for example. They would likely get higher donation amounts voluntarily, vs. the extortion-like pay-to-park each visit. Beyond the parking... For those seeking heat relief, on a hot summer day the low parts of the chasm are considerably cooler. Of course this does generally bring the crowds. Remember to bring bug spray. Children will be in awe of the rock formations and most will absolutely love climbing over, under and through the rocks, crevices and small caves. The rocks are normally slippery, more so after a rain or during the humid summer months - decent footwear is a must. Grandparents beware: not the best place to try to follow an 8 year old! However, across the street by the visitor center there's a nice playground for the kids to tire-out. If you want a longer/safer/less slippery hike you can follow Charlie's Loop trail in it's entirety (start by the covered picnic tables). Then maybe veer off onto the northwest side fire road. From there you can find a couple of trails that head back toward the parking lot. This is a great place to walk the dog(s) - leashed. Please pick up after your pet. Also a wonderful spot for snowshoeing - assuming we still get snow. re: parking - if you are local you might find a place over on Mendon Road, from which you can enter the park via the fire road (47CF+628).

What a great place!…read more We stopped off in the afternoon on a Wednesday during a short trip to the Berkshires. First off, LOVE that you can bring the dogs. Is this normal for an orchard? I'm not familiar. They have the cutest little store with apple cider donuts, fudge, little store items including an apple liqueur of some kind that I was lucky enough to try and that shit is DANGEROUS. They also have a wine tasting area and cider/beer tasting area. We got 2 apple cider donuts (obviously) which were incredible. We also tried a cider flight. I asked for "the fruitest shit you have" and we got a nice spread of different and interesting things including a lavender cider. All of the staff were super nice and friendly. The place is also massive if you are into a lot of walking and things.

One of the owners, Sarah, did a wine tasting for me and was extremely friendly and provided some great background on the various wines. The wines were really good and they had a good variety of sweet and dry options. There's a nice cozy wood burning fireplace with couches to sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the winter months. For those who want to be more active, there is snowshoeing available with snowshoes for rent while you're there. Didn't try that but maybe next year :)
