It's hard to miss Fish Tales when you're in Galveston. Right across from Pleasure Pier, they have purposely made themselves look like the natural choice for a casual sit-down meal after a day at the beach and the pier. They serve this market well, with a reliable menu and a decent amount of seating. However, if you continue a few blocks in any direction, you'll find better restaurants. I had one meal here a few years ago, and when my family wanted to go there this year, I tried to steer them elsewhere, but eventually figured they'd have to experience it for themselves. The food was ok, but sitting on the second story patio, the street noise was almost impossible to talk over. Sure enough, we found better restaurants the rest of the trip. We came here today on Juneteenth, and I'm so happy we chose this restaurant. We were immediately greeted upon entering and sat inside with a nice view of Pleasure Pier. Our waitress was Miranda and she delivered exceptional service! She was very personable, friendly, attentive, readily available and provided us with great recommendations for drinks. to say how extremely disappointed I am with our dinner tonight. Drove from Houston to take Aggie to dinner and wow, what an experience. Starting with the horrible crawfish egg rolls, which had NO FLAVOR. Then our entrees, the fried shrimp and fish, the shrimp were burnt to a crisp and the catfish was undercooked. Not raw, but limp, likely barely edible. I ordered a baked potato and it came out cold and hard, so basically undercooked. My daughter's flounder sandwich was greasy and bad tasting. The restaurant is pretty big, spread over two floors, with nice outdoor seating that offers a great view of the surroundings. Service was top-notch. We were attended to promptly, and our server was incredibly attentive, checking in multiple times to see if we needed anything extra. It made the experience feel very welcoming and well taken care of. As for the food, I opted for the shrimp po'boy with french fries. The fries were decent, nothing special, but the shrimp po'boy was absolutely amazing--fresh, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. My husband and i's honeymoon is this week and we booked a cruise out of Galveston, this is the first place we stopped to eat here in Texas. Our fault we came on a Sunday when it was busy. But- I put my name in for 4 people around 7:30pm. It hits around 8:15ish and we still didn't get a table, one of the ladies notices and finally sits us down because she said they genuinely forgot. We order one appetizer and all order our food. My mom ordered an alcoholic drink that took 30 mins. Our appetizer came after our food (this was a shrimp cocktail). We literally did not step foot out of the restaurant until 9:30-45 because it took 1.5hrs for our food to be made. I get it, it was busy that night but it looked like the servers had no clue who had what table that night. A lady took our picture and we kept one for a price of 30$ I believe. We had our small Frenchie with us, it had rained fairly hard before we came and they cleaned up our out door dining area super quickly. The food were great! Absolutely furious about my experience here. I only had one day to spend in Galveston and sooooooo many seafood restaurants I was trying to decide between and unfortunately I made the absolute WORST decision and my wallet suffered for it. I can't get another meal in Galveston to make up for it. First off we wasted 15 minutes trying to figure out where to park. We went into their parking lot and it said we had to pay $15 to park there. WHAT?!?! After circling forever got parking across the street but still had to pay for it. Anyway, we sat down and I asked our waitress for specifics on exactly how many pieces were in the combination fried platter because we wanted to know if it was enough to share. She said yes and that you get a HANDFUL of fried oysters and a HANDFUL of fried shrimp. Guess how many we got? TWO OF EACH! The piece of fried fish was also TINY. I was furious because she gave us incorrect information and this dish was tiny and cost $32!!!!! When I told her that we got two of each instead of a handful she just looked at me dumbfounded and offered nothing. No apology, no offer to make it right. Nothing. At the end of the meal when my friend asked for another sweet tea to go, she offered me one on the house - apparently offering me a $4 sweet tea was her way of making all of this up to me. I said ok and then she came back and said, "Sorry we ran out of to go cups." So that was the end of that. She again stood there looking at us like she had no idea what to do and offered nothing else. So let me get this straight - you lie to us about the amount in the platter but offer nothing to make it right. Then you offer to get me a sweet tea but take the offer back saying you have no cups and do nothing else. And this meal cost me $70!!!!!!!! I can't get my meal and time in Galveston back. Placed a to-go order via uber. Parking when the order said it was ready. When I got inside I waited up front to get someone's attention. After 5 minutes, the host gets back to the station and directs me to a counter with an employee I've tried to flag down since arriving. He handed me food that wasn't mine. Evidently, they just gave my order to someone else. Currently waiting for my order to be remade. Another 15-29 minute wait. I have heard three different employees apologize a total of 7 times since arriving. Feels like people are not well trained and they are scrambling to do the basics. Hopefully I have an opportunity to opine on the food. I'm starving. Still waiting and it has been 30 minutes. Finally had to yell back in the kitchen to ask if my go order was ready. While in Galveston for the Chirstmas holidays, we decided to stop into Fish Tails for dinner! While there, I ordered the espresso martini which was one of the seasonal drinks they offered as well as the Steak-N-Shrimp. The espresso martini wasn't as creamy as some are, but it was still good and I'd order it again. As for the steak, it tasted like scrapings from a charcoal grill which was oppostite of the shrimp which didn't have all that much flavor at all. The vegetables that were served with the meal were great and well seasoned (don't add salt without trying them - they're already at the right level). The restaurant was pretty empty which makes sense for this time of year on the island but services was great and the atmosphere was fun. At one point my daughter went in to the ladies restroom and it was trashed- toilet paper everywhere, sinks were disgusting. The best part was the waitress hanging out in the bathroom on her phone completely unaware and/or careless about the disgusting state of the bathroom. My daughter and I visited Fish Tales Friday evening about 7pm. Usually we eat upstairs on the balcony, but this time we switched it up and decided to sit in the bar area. Before we sat down, we were greeted by a happy smiling face behind the bar. This girl was a ball of energy and I loved it!!! She was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.
