I ordered the rum punch, oxtails and a side of plantains. My drink was really good and not too sweet, I would def order again. My oxtail was pretty good but on the spicier side due to all the peppercorn in the sauce. However, the mango chutney and coleslaw helped with reducing the spice. In terms of flavor itself, it very mild. I prefer more thyme, tomato paste and just more seasoning in general. The place is definitely on the cozy side since most of their seating is outside. Unfortunately it was 32 degrees so I opted for inside where there's only 4 tables. I was a solo dinner, so I was placed with a group which was fine with me since it was so cold. I ate there a week ago and I cant wait to go back. First of all I was really in the hunt for Jamaican food and when we stumbled across this place, I kinda knew we'd hit the jackpot. The place itself was only slightly bigger than the size of the kitchen and, fortunately, the place wasn't crowded (yet) so we were able to sit inside on this rainy day. NOTE: There is a LOT Of outdoor seating, just not a lot inside. Our waiter was helpful and energetic. He seemed genuinely happy to work there. The owner also gave us some love and sone great suggestions on what to eat. We took him up on it and almost everything he suggested was great. The only exception were the fried plantain chips. They didn't taste bad but they just weren't my kinda plantain chips. The woman preparing the food did her gif and did it well. The plates looked great and the tastes were hearty, flavorful and authentic. She also got the food out quickly. I barely had enough time to look at all the photos of famous people on the walls when our food showed up, hot and ready to be eaten. This place is great for 1, 2 and maybe a 3 person party inside. If you have a bigger pay than that, plan to sit outside. The atmosphere around it is very Market-esque and I'm a big fan of that...if you are too, or just want some will prepared Caribbean fare...dis is da place! read more

Really, really good Jamaican food! I had the Fish Tings (awesome) and curry prawns (really good, although the prawns were fairly small), and enjoyed both meals. Why not 5 stars? 1. The price is expensive for what you get. My meal cost £30 including tip. I guess that's London. 2. The server forgot my beer. That being said, service was friendly and prompt. My friends and I travelled to London in June to see the Spice Girls. It was only right to enjoy some Caribbean food to spice up our life. This cozy restaurant is nestled right on the edge of Brixton Village, which was perfect so that we could enjoy our meals away from the hustle and bustle of the market. Impressed by the blankets sitting at each picnic table, we decided to dine outside. For starters we ordered the codfish fritters and reggae wings. The aioli sauce served with codfish gave it a sweet yet zesty finish. The reggae wings had just enough sauce for each piece. I had the rum punch. It was a bit spicy than what I was use to but was still delicious. The mouthwatering stewed oxtails were more than enough. There was so much I couldn't even finish the plate. While we dined, the owner Brian stopped by our table to welcome us. He was very hospitable and recommend a bar for us to "flex" (dance) for the remainder of the night. I've just been back to try to Jerk Chicken and it's definitely the best main on the menu. The chicken is moist and tender with a slightly spicy and smoky sauce. The hot pepper sauce gives it a real kick and the minced coleslaw is top notch as a side. The pumpkin/squash rice was a bit bland and really unnecessary other than as a filler. The codfish fritters as a starter are truly delicious. I'd actually almost just order a couple of portions and make that my meal. Stumbled upon this place by chance. It's a small shop with very few seating space inside. Despite being a cold day, there was a lot of people seated outside dining on Carribean cuisine. They ran out of oxtail so I had their stew chicken, slaw as well as rice and peas. The chicken thigh was ginormous and generous. Chicken was juicy and complimented the rice and peas. It would be perfect if they were just as generous with their slaw. I can't comment on service as I've been educated to not expect 5* service when you dine at any carribean place. I organised an after work dinner here and it went down a treat. Although there is no booking system, once we got there the staff made everything possible to accommodate us (group of 12). I had a vegetable curry wrap thing. It was nearly £7, and not very good value for what you get. An ok curry in an ok flat bread, definitely not a complete enough meal for the price. Considering the Jerk Chicken plate was way more substantial and about the same price, I'd definitely go for that instead. It was nice, however, to just sit outside on the patio and chill. Though it took a really long time to get our food, they were super apologetic and really nice about it, so I didn't mind. Was brought here by my sister who was raving about their jerk chicken and I can see why... it was pretty good. I love trying different variations of jerk chicken. I think they toned it down because we had asked about non-spicy things but it had a nice sweetness to it which wasn't expected. Codfish fritters are soooooo good... must find a similar place in Toronto (good luck to me!). In order to give all the other cafes and restaurants a fair shake, we went through the market, checked out menus but the others didnt stand a chance. We started with their home-made ginger beer. It was SO firey and great, tingled all the way down. I had the jerk chicken, rice and beans, coleslaw and mango salsa. It was incredible. Massive portion (which I unashamedly devoured). There was a knife, but really no need for it as the chicken just fell away from the bone, very moist and tender. My friend had the veggie roti which was also so so nice and also huge portion. That came with chickpeas, greenbeans and pumpkin. I was eyeing the curry goat and will definitely be having that next time. There are several hot sauces on the table, word of warning, dont smother your chicken with habenero jerk sauce then seek refuge in a firey ginger beer, there will be no salvation. read more
