We had to wait Fri. and all weekend and he got very sick. Coleman was very nice and took very good care of him. He had to stay there all week. He has a wound that the bandages need to be changed 3 times a week for two weeks. Now we are 79 years old and this will not be easy for us. This clinic refused to change his bandages when he is their patient and we only went to Coleman because they told us to. I will not be using them anymore.

During drop off for my dog to be neutered I was told that pickup would be the following day after 10 a.m.. I arrived exactly at 10 since I had other things to take care of that day. The older front office lady reacted very rudely, raising her hands and saying, "I guess nobody listens! I've told customers dogs won't be ready until after 10." Sadly, this wasn't our first unpleasant interaction. It's very evident customers are not a priority. Due to this ongoing treatment, we've moved all our animals elsewhere and won't return.

PROS: The shelter itself is clean and modern, but very small compared to shelters in Austin and Dallas I have visited. You will not be overwhelmed. The staff is friendly and willing to offer plenty of advice and tips...unless you ask them about veterinary care. Anytime you ask a question about illness or disease symptoms and treatment, they say that they do not have a vet on staff (true) and might be sued if they give out veterinary advice (maybe true?). They have every kind of animal you could imagine, in every age, but they will not guarantee availability, temperament, health. They offer vouchers for spay/neuter for those who can't afford to pay the vet price, and offer pet food to those who are having an emergency. The adoption fee seems steep: $90 for a cat ($45 for fixed cat) or $150 for a dog ($75 for fixed dog), but it pays for the spay/neuter, microchip, rabies shot, booster shot, deflea, deworm. It is a good deal when you break it down. They accept unlimited volunteers, age 18 and up, and give volunteers a little class on how to do everything. Plus, they encourage volunteers to PLAY with the animals rather than CLEAN, which was super cool. Unlimited intake, no questions asked. Bring in your pet and sign a form. That's it. Canines, Cats, and Cabernet. 'Nuff said. CONS: My gripe with this shelter is that they are a kill shelter. However, they say that they are unlimited intake, have only five staff people, and take in five thousand animals each year. I'm going to assume that this is true, and if that's the case, they are doing very well for what they have, because they don't have a time limit on pets. Where I used to live, they kept animals for five days and then they were euthanized. Here, they say it's however long they can, depending on space and health. You can see how long an animal has been there on the paper cards on the cages, and I have seen some for one month, two, three. Hours are sparse. At the time of this writing, hours are Mon-Fri from one to five and Sat from one to four. A bit out of the way. Ten minutes from WalMart. 3016 Milam Drive, by Kohler. I kind of wish they would have some adoptions uptown some time. A guy can dream. No phone calls about the fate of the stray you brought in. They won't tell you if it's been euthanized or adopted. I don't like the fact that they just left her like that!! Do better and document your information. Please don't leave animals to sit in their own piss or shit!!!
