The park surrounding the tower is lovely, even a dreary November day. The tower allows great views of the city. The only problem is getting up and down on a busy Sunday. The steps are narrow and I may have slipped and thought I was going to die. Definitely worth a tour around and hopefully you won't have to pass folks on the stairs as you go up and down.

The grounds are fantastic lots of open space for the children to wonder and explore and also paths that follow through the trees and gardens. There's a big adventure playground full of lots to explore, zip wire, slide climbing frame etc. There were also blow up slides and a paddling pool. There was a separate area with Wendy houses, trampolines and a climbing frame for the smaller children which was in a really nice relaxing area. You can get up close with pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens in Pet's Corner. There is 66 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland walks, the views across the River Severn and Wales and spectacular ! There's also a cafe and shop. The cafe is really nice I had a caramel latte with a cheese and chutney sandwich came to £5.50 wich Is good value. Plenty of parking available. Overall a fantastic day out which was really enjoyed by all.

Old Down Country Park is not your typical stately home. It is a farm/zoo/park/house. Great for the…read morewhole family too. They have large lawn areas for picnics, a café for those who didn't pre-prepare food, and lots and ltos of animals. Expect to find your typical farm animals. Goats? Check. Pigs? Check. Sheep? Check. Ponies? Check. Wallabies????check!!! Entry is only a fiver and you can spend the whole day there (weather permitting) walking along the Victorian walls and cooing at all the cute animals.

The air smelled of ale. There are centuries of history in Bath. The architecture is mostly Georgian made of a famous golden color local stone. The city is known for the Roman Baths, of which tours are available. The town boasts the iconic Pulteney Bridge with shops located on the bridge. The Bath Abbey is at the center of town surrounded by courtyard that host street performers. The Abbey is open for tours (which we took and enjoyed). A fabulous little park once visited by Queen Elizabeth II, sits on the River Avon. House boats lined the river. A statue of Mozart stands in the lovely park. Many shops and stands sell souvenirs and food. I found chocolate shops, pastry, pubs and fish and chips. Street performers played violins and performed magic in little bench lined squares. The region is known for local fine wool. I saw beautiful scarves, bags and sweaters. I'm regretting not buying a bag. The period architecture is lovely and good reason that tv filming occurs in Bath. I might recommend visiting on another day of the week, not Saturday! We visited as part of a tour group, so we didn't have to worry about parking.

I enjoyed exploring the different parts of the temple where the ancient baths are and learning about the history through a self guided audio tour. Had a nice time exploring the Jane Austin house but regretted not getting the tour. I was only there for 2 hours so wasn't sure I would be able to explore everything else there is to do in this small city. Lots of little pop up shops and food stalls to test your taste buds so no shortage of things to do and yeah people watch of course. I really wanted to check out the cathedral but açaí was strapped for time and after exploring the ancient Roman baths I figured I came and conquered like the Roman's did.

Lacock Abbey in the village of Lacock, Wiltshire, England, was founded in the early 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. Later, it became a quirky country house of various architectural styles within its own woodland grounds. It was a home for the Talbot family, including William Henry Fox Talbot 19th century, famous for his contributions towards the invention of the photographic negative. His amazing achievements are celebrated in the Fox Talbot Museum on the ground floor and the gallery above holds special exhibitions throughout the year. Wander through the Medieval cloisters, and 16th century stable courtyard, explore the furnished rooms and discover the 18th century Gothic hall.

Queen Square is one of Bristol's great architectural set-pieces, and one of the most impressive…read moresquares in the UK. Planned in 1699 and completed in 1727, it is named after Queen Anne. Over the years many of the individual houses have been rebuilt, but it contains a wealth of 18th and early 19th century buildings in excellent condition, many of which are listed. Many of these belonged to wealthy merchants, but also included the first American Embassy following the Revolution in 1776. In 1831, the Square was the scene of riots following the failure of the Second Reform Act: hundreds rioted, and many buildings were burned and looted. After several days, order was restored by troops who killed and wounded hundreds of the protesters. Until recently, the square was bisected by a main road, but this has now been diverted and the Square restored to its rightful form, with lawns and trees. At its centre is a statue of William III by the famous sculptor, Rysbrack, erected in 1736.

On a normal day you find a perfectly flat grassy space with nice graveled walk ways from one corner to the other. It's a really nice place to sit in the sun for pic-nic or just chill out on your lunch break. But what makes Queen Square so great is the event and festivals that are put on during the summer. You'll find: Eat, Drink, Bristol Fashion, Harbour festival, Thai Festival and Bristol Refugee Week to name just a few. It's a great central spot and I've got so many memories of watching live bands, eating great food and generally having fun here.

I'm quite a fan of this tower. It was begun in 1915, and finally completed in 1925, to commemorate Henry Overton Wills, the first chancellor of Bristol University and whose family were the owners of Bristol Tobacco, and as such were very wealthy. The architect, Sir George Oatley, was told to 'build to last', which he certainly has done. In a neo gothic style, the building dominates the Bristol skyline in a majestic way. On Open Doors day every summer there's a an opportunity to go inside the the tower for free. It is, without doubt, the highest point in Bristol and the view is just phenomenal from the top. It's not just a view though, as you can get up close to the massive bell that chimes each hour, and stand in the bell room as it does so (don't worry, they give you ear plugs, which you'll definitely need!). If you miss out on the open doors day, there's a guide who does a tour on the first tuesday of every month, I believe, though this won't be free but well worth the visit.

Now that it's free of all that scaffolding, Wills Memorial Building is once again standing bright…read moreand proud at the top of Park Street, hosting Bristol University graduations (including mine a few years ago!), exams (again, including mine!), and other grand university ceremonies. It's also got some teaching space here, particularly for the Law students, which is why you'll see many students hanging about here during the day. The patch of green in front of the building is a great place for a picnic, though not particularly quiet or peaceful, given that it's near the busy Triangle and that you'll be surrounded by gossipy undergrads. I came to sit here on my first visit to Bristol when I was looking around the university. I spilt a whole cup of boiling tea on my foot and it swelled up monstrously. I considered myself well and truly physically branded by my Bristol experience, and therefore decided to take up the offer to study here! The Memorial Building is truly beautiful inside; a big cathedral with vast stained glass windows. Walking up the big flight of steps inside really does provide that lovely feeling of hushed awe.

Has to be the worst post office in Britain…read more Its my local post office so I'm oftem forced to use it.....can honestly say that approximately 75% of the time whatever i go there to do is unsuccessful and it is ALWAYS 100% due to the incompetence and laziness of of the staff either giving me what i later find out is erroneous info or just not being there due to "lunch" or illness. They WILL tell you thar youre "too late" or "its the wrong form" or "thats the wrong type" or " its not something a post office does"......theyre lying....they just dont want to. When they do take on a bit of work and give you info on delivery times etc DOUBLE CHECK IT as they make it up on the spot.....even when you dont ask they make stuff up to tell you.....they havent a clue. Expect queues out the door and a stinking attitude from someone who acts like theyre doing you a favour when you get to the front of it.

Not a lot is known about this merry little place packed full of colourful vans, nice takeaways and green spaces - until you start to explore. Mina Road Park is an excellent place to begin your exploration and in a relatively small space such as this you can find quite a lot. My favourite feature has to be the abundance of marvellously large oak tress possibly hundreds of years old. It's wonderful to sit in the leafy groves on a sunny day and guess the things they've seen appear and disappear. There's an enormous array of wildlife here too from newts and frogs, to dragonflies and sticklebacks in the daytime and bats and owls and night. With two quintessential bridges straddling the river as it curls round the perimeter and a bright and colourful play area this park is fantastic for children.

Located above Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle, this library is curiously placed. Unless you're…read moremega observant, or had done a bit of library research prior to your outing, it's unlikely you'd acknowledge Knowle Library's existence whilst shopping in the area. Needless to say, this is one of the quietest libraries I've had the pleasure to experience in Bristol. Although the obligatory (and oh so annoying) children's story times still operate here on certain mornings, the place is otherwise a peaceful study haven. The usual array of computers are available for use here, and DVD's can be hired for a pound. The library also owns an exhibition space which it can let out to customers. As for books, here you will find an extensive range for all ages and interests.
