Went to the Fish Tales for breakfast before snowmobiling. We were sat down and could not get anyone to acknowledge our presence. About 15 minutes later, the waitress took our order. We ordered two bowls of oatmeal and a half order of biscuits and gravy. The order took some time to arrive. The oatmeal was awful as it had a strong presence of salt. The biscuits and gravy had the same problem. Once again, trying to find someone to come to the table was impossible. We paid at the bar and left. With such disappointing service, I would not consider returning. I also would not consider a rental, as I would fear the same poor service. read more

Stayed for a week in a cabin that was supposed to be clean and safe. We were greeted with dead bugs on the walls, cobwebs in corners, filthy cabinets in the kitchen. The steps on the deck are unsafe on what appears to be all cabins. The host and hostess were nowhere to be found after taking our $$. This is rated 2 stars, 1 at most. Restaurant so far hasn't been open, although they advertise they will be. read more

Very rude there are much better places to stay that are cheaper, that don't require a 2 night stay with much more helpful employees. Root cellar is cheaper and very close to here and several of their rooms are brand new. read more

If Proprietors are trying to discourage business bc place is for sale, they r doing well. Docks n boat lifts are in dangerous disrepair. Understand Covid limits hours, but when Proprietors are there, they smell like booze, by night they are drunk. Want cash only, otherwise big surcharge. Grounds are unkempt, Grills filthy. Only positive is cabins are clean. Keep the housekeeper. read more

Disappointing! We went for the lakeside dining but we were really dissatisfied with the food and service. We came in with our two daughters, excited about dining on the water. We were not greeted very warmly and when my oldest daughter asked a question about an item on the menu, the waitress barely acknowledged her. How infuriating and rude. We could deal with service issues if the food was remotely good - which is was not. We really wanted to like this place as we travel here often in the summer. Too bad. read more

I'm shocked the rating isn't higher here. By far the best food I've had in the UP. Awesome views. Cook/server/bartender was very friendly and handled multiple tables very well. Get the soup. And the garlic potatoes. Literally cannot go wrong. read more

This is a resort that has a small restaurant next to the lake, with nice views. This review is for the restaurant. Basic sandwiches and some fish dinners I had grilled grouper, which was ok with just a little bit of spice. Wine list is basic with only house wines. Ok, if you are hungry and nearby as there are limited choices. The view of the lake is a plus. read more

I didn't want to write your name on the site, but I had asked around and being a very small town, we found out that John and yourself are the owners. What a joke! My wife and I went to dinner at Fish Tales while visiting the UP this summer. It wasn't very clean and food was not good. I had the fried fish and it was very greasy and mostly just fried batter. Our waitress was extremely rude and was rarely around. We waited for 20 minutes for our bill and never saw our waitress so I finally had to ask another waitress if I could speak to the manager and she said that our waitress was actually one of the owners! At that point, I just paid in cash what I thought our bill was and left. We would definitely not go there again. read more

Went for a fish fry meal on Fourth of July weekend, nice location right on Lake Gogebic. Inside the decor worked for a lakefront restaurant with the nice water views. The fish fry was okay, crispy not oily, fries were very good. The waitress was in a hurry, she came to the table to take our order or when we had to look for her, we would try answer her question or ask for something it seemed like she was heading back to the kitchen or bar, no small talk, not a very welcoming feeling. While staying on Lake Gogebic we happened to hit the Fishtales restaurant on one of the few days that they were open. Our table overlooked Lake Gogebic for a nice view. I started with a fantastic Moscow Mule from the bar and my husband had a Keweenaw brew. We ordered the soup, garlic potatoes and the whitefish. We both had to slow ourselves down from eating the chowder too fast, it was that delicious. The base was the perfect thickness, had carrots, spinach (or kale) with seafood and a spicy little meatball. I asked for the recipe but the bartender blew me off with his smooth yet friendly Yooper demeanor I wanted that recipe! Onward, the potatoes were well seasoned with paprika and other spices then topped with shredded Parmesan cheese, very tasty and went well with the delicate broiled whitefish. I have a problem with texture so the fish seemed soft to me but my husband loved it! If you can catch this place on a day that they are open, stop and have what we had read more

Great place to stop on the trail in the winter. The BLT is great you won't leave hungry and everything else I have tried has been great. The owners are very nice, the service is very good. They have premium gas on site for a fair price. It is all ways a stop for us on are UP snowmobile trips for the last 5 years. I would recommend you give them a visit. read more

We couldn't wait to get back to Fish Tales for Jed's craft cocktails, the mule and the old fashioned, and we were NOT disappointed! What was even more amazing was, upon sitting down, he remembered us from a year ago, and our drink orders! Jed couldn't have been more gracious and the drinks were made to perfection. I still maintain I can't get a mule that good anywhere in Chicago. We ordered a couple apps that evening, the quesadilla and the pizza spring rolls. Both were very good, but my husband and I particularly enjoyed the quesadilla because it was clearly from scratch with a wonderful ranch and salsa sauce. Delicious! Though we spend less than 2 weeks in the U.P., we had to go back to Fish Tales for the Friday night fish fry, another great decision. We both ordered the two piece whitefish meals that came with Asian slaw. I simply love the black sesame seeds in a light dressing with the fresh cabbage. We ordered the fried fish, breaded in what tasted like a beer batter, rich and decadent, but the couple with us ordered the broiled fish and raved about it as well. There wasn't a smidgen of fish left between the four of us. We also chose the Mulligatawny soup. I cannot say enough about this soup! Jed even told us the entire history of how it came to be. Of course, he put his own special spin on it, with bite-sized diced vegetables and chicken in a coconut and curry cream base. It was a feast of flavors and we could easily make a meal just of that soup! The couple we were with asked about the beer cheese soup, which had been on the menu in the past. Jed, in now what we expect typical fashion, told us he'd make a pot the very next day, though it wasn't on the schedule. So a trip back on our last day for a take out order of beer cheese soup (which we had NEVER enjoyed previously) and WOW, it was so rich with a warm hoppy scent and a velvety cheese finish. It has been added to the ever growing list of favorites. The view is always spectacular at Fish Tales and Jed's cooking expertise will not disappoint. The cabin we stayed in was freezing, they could at least turn on heat before guests arrive. It took two days for the mattress to warm up. The cabin also smelled really musty! The white fish I ordered was really rubbery. We'll pass on staying the next time we go up there snowmobiling. Bartenders were pretty cool. Only good thing going. read more

My husband and I do not review usually. This is a place that deserves a great review! Two years ago we needed a place to stay for our annual July 4th trip. We were able to reserve a cabin for that week here. Liked the idea that there is a restaurant on site, and the cabin had 3 bedrooms to be able to accommodate the kids and their friends that were coming for the week. Expections? We were welcomed as if we were family. By the end of the week we felt even more so. The cabin, spotless and so comfortable! A great lift for our boat right outside our cabin. And the owners, Jon and Brenda, were wonderful! Found my favorite cocktail here, only found at Fishtales. My husband likes a gin and tonic every once in a while, good ones a served here. Steak bites and Caesar salad became two of our favorite dishes. My husband also became hooked on the fish tacos during this stay. The blt's and fries are fantastic, as well as desserts made by Brenda. We had so much fun we came back, my husband and I, a couple of weeks later for the weekend. More fun! This is the place we come to for celebrations, relaxing and getting together with friends and family when on Lake Gogebic! Our family did not have a enjoyable experience here. First off our waitress was half in the bag it was 4:30 on a Thursday! Regardless employees should never drink on the job, we later over heard her claiming she owned it go figure. We didn't expect to hear so much profanity with our children around, the staff did nothing to lessen the obnoxious behavior coming from the drunks at the bar. The bar is directly behind the dining tables, it was very uncomfortable. It seemed the waitress was more concerned with drinking with the patrons at the bar then anything else. The menu is mostly fried packaged food. I definetly wouldn't recommend this place. If your looking for a classic northwoods family supper club stay in Wisconsin.
