When Pure Gym came along and bought the LA Fitness chain I didn't really have high hopes for it. Looking at the gym floor, the clientele leans towards the 'meat head' body builder types, this hasn't really changed since the Pure takeover. However, it's a really cheap gym and Pure do seem to have refurbed the building, though the car park needs re-surfacing as it's full of pot holes (some are pretty big, I don't think my small car could actually get out of if I drove into it). Everything is now the grey and turquoise colour scheme, even the floors are grey... I haven't checked out the studios yet, but my last visit (and final) a couple of years ago; you would find that the air conditioning in the studio was not strong enough to cope with the amount of people in the room. The mirrors would completely steam up from the body heat, and by the end of the class the floor would literally be slippy from condensation (and sweat) EWWWWWW! I really hope that Pure have addressed this. Anyway, after trying out most of the gyms in the area, the lure of £14.99p/m with multi gym access and no joining fee got me in (it's currently £19.99 a month but there are always deals happening). They have a decent studio class timetable, including LES MILLS Body Pump and Body Combat. I have a huge dislike of budget gyms but they do the job and this one has air conditioning that works (I'm looking at you 247 Fitness). If a mid-priced gym opened near me I'd join it straight away, but so far it looks like the budget chains keep buying out the mid-priced ones so I'm stuck with Pure for now.

The gym is much cleaner than it used to be, the only thing I would say is sometimes the weight machines are very difficult to get on due to demand at peak times....and yes, it can sometimes not smell very fresh in the weight lifting area, but you get that in any well equipped free weight area at any gym. I like the fact that you're left alone to train, but there is always a familiar face of a personal trainer if you did want that extra push ( a couple of the regular ones do smile and engage, like anywhere you have the ones that don't even look at you...therefore you simply don't engage or even contemplate asking them anything). I'm no longer a class user, therefore can't comment on the studio's. The only real negative I personally have is the car park...it is dreadful!!!.....Other than that generally it's value for money.

I work nearby so I can pop over right after work. They don't have a car park, but there is a large parking garage near Cineworld that always has parking (for a fee of course). Yes some days it can be extremely busy, but I haven't had issues finding an open machine. There are 2 floors of equipment! They seem to have every machine that you could possibly need: treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers, free weights, a cage, and a small studio. The trainers are so friendly and go out of the way to help you. Most of the classes are free. There are many classes day and night so there's always an option for trying something new. There are also a few vending machines by the entrance that sell locks and towels if you forget yours, and also protein drinks and snacks to help your muscles recover after a great workout! The only reason I'm not giving this gym 5 stars is because of the studio and the water fountains. The studio isn't a real studio. It is just a few walls set up to sort of enclose an area of the gym floor with no ceiling. With no solid doors, anybody can walk into the class even if they are not booked in or creepers can stare in without being seen. I wish it were a proper studio with a lot more mirrors and properly enclosed. And my water fountain gripe..people drink a ton of water in the gym, and there are only 2 little fountains in this huge gym that take forever to fill up a bottle of water. I don't see why they don't have the quick filling water fountains made for refilling large bottles. I've seen them at other gyms and even some airports. Please install one Pure Gym. If you're looking for an affordable gym with a lot to offer near city centre, then this is the gym for you!

Yes, the turnstiles to get in try and chop your arms off and yes, sometimes the water from the fountain tastes a bit... funky. But it's a gym, it should be sweaty. The man-eating turnstiles just make you get in a little faster and if you don't like the water take your own - or go to the Tesco over the road! I've been when it's been pretty damn busy and I have always managed to get on the equipment I wanted when I wanted. If you're looking for a low cost, no frills gym around the city centre then this place is well worth a look.

For the last year and half i've been doing different classes body pump, Aqua, core stability it's a great way to meet new people and keep fit at the same time, the pool and wet area's kept really clean and the staff are great, it's not very often that you walk in to a place and the staff know your name! They also have the sunbeds, a hairdresser and nail technician on site and for those Mummie's among you there's a creche.

The weights section of Workoutz is slight disappointing, with only one smith machine and no freestanding bench/squat rack. Unfortunately the dumbbells were also fairly light, baring in mind this is all in hindsight, at the time I was loving life, but now I can see why Workoutz is such a great gym in that retrospect. Overall, I would definitely recommend Workoutz to people, especially those interested in keeping fit and women who are often self conscious about going to the gym.

It is a gym full of big people or aspiring big people. A lot of them are body-builders of some type or MMA fighters, it can be quite intimidating if you take it on face value, but each time I've been there I've witnessed no trouble whatsoever. Everyone gets on with their sessions with unwavering focus and of course there's a lot of flexing and swaggering around in between sets but that's just an inherently male-athlete like thing to do - it's all show anyway. I like Stevie B's - it provides a no-nonsense, well-equipped and purposeful space to hone the finest instrument you'll ever have - your body.

As gyms in the city go this is one of the pricier ones, with membership costing £40-£50. However, I've found that it's a nice place to exercise, and it is conveniently located for the city centre. The gym has all of the facilities you'd expect. Upstairs there's a large cardio exercise area, with running machines, bikes and more, as well as a rock climbing wall and a large weights area with a good mix of free weights and machines.There's a separate weights area for women and there's an area dedicated to boxing (if that's your thing). I've found that the atmosphere is fairly relaxed and I don't have to waste time waiting to use the weights/machines that I want to. The pool area is a great place to swim or just to relax after a work out. It doesn't seem to get overly busy and it has two Jacuzzis, a steam room and a sauna.

However I went with my sister who is a fitness freak and made the silly mistake of trying to keep up with her...I felt as though I was blacking out so went to the changing rooms where I eventually fainted. I woke up with two staff members next to me who offered me a drink, a comfortable room to rest and called for my sister. I was embarrassed beyond belief but they were so helpful that I felt the need to write this review. You're guaranteed superb service at this gym!

The racquetball/squash courts (of which there are five!) are of varying sizes, designed for pairs or singles. The tennis court area (indoors) is extremely large, with 6 courts and two small practice areas. The pool is really pretty, very nice, with gorgeous deckchairs all around, a lifeguard on staff, and pretty blue and white tiles. There is also an outdoor pool for the warm weather (or stiff of loin and strong of heart), with a small kiddie pool and a larger pool. Both pools have a section for mucking about, and a roped off area for swimming laps. There is a lifeguard outside too. Then there are the jacuzzis (two of them), three steam rooms and a similar number of saunas. There are masseurs on staff all the time, and a sports therapist you can see for deeper injuries/problems. The restaurant serves a full compliment of food, from traditional English pub grub to posh sandwiches, breakfast, and plenty of healthy options. Unfortunately, the food is crap. This stuff is bad, frozen, pre-cooked stuff that comes out cold. Twice eating here, and the last time was definitely my last. It takes about 30 minutes once the food is ordered for it to come out, which is horrendous for a place with five visible staff members in the restaurant, and only 10 covers. It must have been sitting on the side for about ten minutes, getting cold and soggy. So totally disappointing. But I guess if you're in need, it'll have to do! The staff at this DL are really really nice, helpful, polished and professional. This is a tremendous gym, with lots of sexy, fit people, and you should go there to get the same, if you aren't already.
