This gym has everything I need and much more. Great selection of new and traditional gym equipment with some innovative machines I've never seen before but are amazing. At first I just needed a gym. But I'm finding that this place is inspiring me to workout more and hard. The atmosphere is inspiring and the guys who run it are no nonsense trainers. I'm really enjoying working out here.

This place has some nice touches that you just don't see every day or in every place. If you've attended the last class of the day, you might be offered some Prosecco. On December 26, 2011, they threw a party for their members (with a free drink included) at a local hotel. I can't believe more gym owners don't expand on the social aspects of their clubs...when you get to know people, it makes you just that much more loyal.

While in Erlangen for business, I have used XXL Fitness in the past and went there again this time. I like this gym, a good find. First of all, it lives up to its name. It's big, real big. It has room after room after room of equipment, free weights, aerobics, cardio, etc. It's pretty certain you'll find your fitness need in XXL whatever your niche may be. If you are a bodybuilder, you will find a huge variety of equipment. If you are into general fitness, you are in luck also as there is plenty of resources available as well. The cardio area is large and the aerobics room is expansive. I have had great workouts here. A good amount of gym goers right after work time but I have not ever considered it overcrowded compared to other gyms I have gone to. The staff have been polite and helpful, and they offer a great 10 visit plan to buy for visitors/non-members. I've had positive interactions with fellow gym goers there and there is a great workout atmosphere. Bottom line: I like this gym. It matches the name, in that it is a huge facility filled with a lot of equipment for any type of fitness/bodybuilding enthusiast looking for their workout need. Helpful staff and great workout atmosphere. I am a fan of this gym and will continue to use it when in Erlangen.

So let's start with the good things: It's open 24/7, meaning that you can always enter with your member card, even if it's 5 in the morning. (Why you'd actually want to go to the gym at that time...well, that's a different question!) The entire gym is split into 4 areas over several floors, meaning that even if it's crowded you don't have too many people in one room. They have a pretty decent choice of sports equipment and even a gymnastics area. Now, the only thing that's really not so cool are the people... It's not the type of people as such (it's always fun to do people-watching when you're sweating on the treadmill), but the amount of people that come here at certain times. I, for one, stopped going there all together between 4pm and 10pm. It's just too busy and you have too many sweaty, staring people in one place for my taste... I usually go in the mornings or at night, especially around /past midnight - I actually had the entire place to myself once at 1 am. I understand if this doesn't fit your schedule, so if you're planning on going here after work, you might want to check out the other gyms around. But, even though this is not as fancy as the flagship store in Nürnberg, and there's no slacklining or virtual sports classes, I think for a normal gym this is absolutely ok! And I forgot the most important part: There are little to no annoying people trying to chat you up on the tread mill or elsewhere, everyone kind of keeps to themselves. You can get a free membership for one day to try it out btw, just ask the guy sitting at reception for a trial, you don't have to become a member afterwards! Bottom line: - vast amount of equipment spread over 4 areas - open 24/7 - enough parking space for everyone - depending on the time it can get too crowded in here - nothing too fancy but decent enough for a gym! - important: no annoying people! =) - free 1-day trial membership
