All five were unbearably hot. There's no air conditioning, and nowhere - not once - do they disclose that. During a heatwave, we were handed tiny plastic desk fans that felt more symbolic than functional. "The heat isn't on," staff said, helpfully pressing buttons on a thermostat that wasn't connected to anything. Performance art, not hospitality. But the heat wasn't the worst part. One bed had exposed staples and metal pins embedded in the headboard - right where someone's head would rest. I took photos. Raised it with management. Their response? "That's not representative." Which is strange, considering every single room we booked had issues. What you're paying for here is a dated property clinging to its past reputation, hoping guests won't look too closely. Tour groups come and go. Independent travelers? We're disposable. The one saving grace: the bar and waitstaff. They were attentive, warm, and clearly doing their best in a place that doesn't deserve them. I tried to resolve this privately. Gave them chances. Gave them time. They offered a token refund and shrugged off everything else. So here's what I'll say to the next traveler considering this place: If you enjoy sweating through the night, sleeping near embedded hardware, and being told your experience didn't happen the way you say it did - book the Dunraven. If not? Stay literally anywhere else.

Our room was sub par, cigarette burns in the tub. No extra toilet paper in the room when we ran out. And the broken thermostat was blinking the whole stay, begging for a filter change...gross. The china was also dirty at breakfast. The only pluses I will give to this place: the sitting and dining rooms were decorated well and the OTHER staff (NOT the receptionist/bartender) were pleasant. From the small back deck you can look over this town all the way to the high cliffs that drop into the ocean, creating picturesque views of the orange, red and pink sunset. We arrived to a small sign personally welcoming us. Niall and Darra treated us like family while we stayed at their house and even dined at their table. They were personally acquainted with the entire area and gave us honest recommendations for spending our days there. We were able to see the Cliffs without crowds because of their directions. We then had the perfect dinner of local food at Roadford House where we walked along stonewalls past cows, horses, and sheep to the intimate dining room overlooking pastures. We ended the night by enjoying local music at O'Connor's Pub just a minute walk from the Sea View. We would highly recommend staying at the Sea View for at least a few nights on your trip to Ireland. The event space was beautiful. We were blown away by the food at dinner the evening before and at the wedding reception. Our friends are still talking about the risotto, beef Wellington and the fillet. It's rare to experience fine dining at an event, but that's exactly what was provided for us. Our family has traveled extensively. We can happily report that Dromoland is the best overall experience that we have ever had in a hotel. The castle and grounds are gorgeous and meticulously maintained. Most historic hotels have fusty guest rooms. Dromoland had modern, luxurious rooms with state of the art fittings. Everything in the rooms was great, but the beds and showers were world class. Our guests were raving about their accommodations. The common areas were fun to spend time in. The live music was a treat. The food at the castle is by far the best food we had in Ireland. It would hold its own against any fine dining establishment. The bride and groom had an amazing dinner in the Earl of Thomond restaurant. I had the best fish and chips of my life in the Gallery and was pleased to quaff my first pint of Guinness in Ireland at the cocktail bar. Breakfast was an event in itself. The food and service were amazing. We commandeered a large table and spent a couple of hours every morning with a rotating cast of family and friends. The excellent staff took it all in stride. The activities were great- my family was captivated by the falconry. Jane's hotel tour was a lot of fun. One friend played an enjoyable round of golf and our kids tried skeet shooting- all were very happy. Many of us had excursions organized by Dromoland. The drivers were courteous and knowledgeable. The thing that sets Dromoland apart from every other hotel that we have ever stayed at is the level of service. The staff are charming and amazingly helpful. They often anticipated our needs. The attention to detail was awesome. The rooms and common areas were meticulously clean. Turndown service was lovely. The housekeeping staff would even tidy up chargers and cords when they made their rounds. The wedding and our extended stay at Dromoland was a peak experience for our family and friends. We can't recommend the castle highly enough. We should have stayed a few more days just to relax.

There were horses, goats and pigs. Swans swimming in the ponds. What a treat. The doormen were beyond helpful, friendly and genuine. Check in was quick and smooth. I felt badly with just my backpack and Tesco plastic bag when asked if we needed assistance with our baggage :-) (NOTE-in the evening there is the most delicious alcohol and non alcoholic lemonade type drinks in the lobby) The room rates tied to my stay at The Loge in Pebble Beach. So luxurious. I never wanted to leave the room. The bathroom is what dreams are made of. I took full advantage of having a lovely tub bath as well. The toiletries are top tier and the lotion was amazing and smelled so nice. It was for sale but because I only had a carry on I could not purchase it. The hotel has a great gym and swimming pool. They do have hours so plan accordingly. Also, you will have to purchase a swimming cap (if you have one from home bring it). Also, the pool does have specific hours for children. There are plenty of lockers you can leave your items as well. I loved seeing everyone around the hotel walking in their robes coming to and from the gym/pool to their rooms. We enjoyed walking the grounds too. We only ate breakfast here and WOW it was amazing and filled us up for the day. The honey is scraped fright from an enormous cone on the buffet. Super friendly and attentive staff. Once again top notch and class. There is plenty of parking available. We did not dine at the hotel for dinner but walked to the near by affiliated pub for dinner. The hotel did offer to drive us there and pick us up but we declined. It is safe and we enjoyed the short walk. All about the hotel are unique pieces of artwork and sculptures. I loved the wooden animals. There is a great historic bar, reading room as well. Note-do not turn on the do not disturb light on your door if you go out at night if you want turn down bed service and a delicious chocolate. Well worth the money. Golfers will love the course as well. The sauna was great after our round.
