I was not expecting what I found, which was a really cool store stocking mostly Southwestern and Mexican goods! The store is in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, on the Pennsylvania side. It's on the northbound side of Route 209, across from the Delaware Cemetery. There's a white columned house with a semi-circular driveway, and next to the house is a long, wooden building with a yellow sign and old license plates near the door, and chili ristras hanging from the roof overhang. Inside is quite a collection: wonderful Day of the Dead merchandise, fine crafts, some fine art prints, "Graphite Objects" ( http://www.asbworkshop.com/collections.html ) that are hand-carved and write without rubbing off on your hands, animated diffraction grating postcards, Frida Kahlo items, carved wooden boxes, ceramics from Acoma Pueblo, rugs, scarves, felted animals, tin animals, jewelry, Talavera ceramic tiles, "treasure boxes," glass ornaments. The store is not large but despite the amount of merchandise it doesn't feel like it's too tightly packed. It's definitely worth stopping in if you are driving Route 209 in the Dingman's Ferry area! In fact, if Day of the Dead merchandise interests you, it's worth stopping in if you are anywhere within the region!

As a serious buyer, I asked the owner, David, if he could please weigh the piece so I could better understand its value. He immediately got defensive and snapped, "We don't sell by the weight." I calmly explained that I wasn't asking him to price it by weight--I just wanted the information to compare market values. He reluctantly weighed it and it turned out to be only 9 grams, which is light for a pendant at that price, especially considering it was made by an unknown maker and used cubic zirconia. When I pointed out that it seemed overpriced, David accused me of wasting his time--even though I was clearly asking respectful, informed questions about a potential purchase. I left the store feeling completely disrespected. His aggressive tone and dismissive behavior made me wonder if I was being judged based on my age or background. No customer deserves to be treated like that just for doing their due diligence. I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone looking for fair service or transparency.

We have been to many other places but this was my fav by far to get our tree. First they have…read morehayrides to go up further in the farm to get your tree or you could stay at the bottom where we did and get it. Second we also went on this special day because they had Newfoundland dogs bring your tree back for you which was a wonderful experience and we too loads of pictures with the dogs. Finally they have an outdoor fireplace to sit and warm up a bit and enjoy hot coco and other snacks and a gift shop to purchase something to remember it all. The experience was an overall exceptional one which we'll all remember for years. We plan on marking this out go to place for trees from now on.

The Lafayette Mercantile has some really adorable and unique clothing and gift items. Picked up a very nice vanilla and coffee bean scented candle. The Lafayette Mercantile is definitely a very cute place to stop in when in town. It's on the corner of Route 15 and Meadows Rd. Lafayette, NJ. There's small parking areas in the village. Just keep your eye out for them.
