I decided to give Thai massage a shot at Five Bodies Collective because I've heard it can offer longer-lasting benefits when done regularly compared to other massage techniques like Swedish. Thai massage involves more stretching of the body's muscles during the massage, which I believe contributes to its effectiveness. Now that I've been going for several months, I thought it was time to share my experience. On my first visit, I must admit that the building initially made me question whether I was at the right place when my GPS told me to turn into the parking lot. However, the sign on the parking lot confirmed it was correct, as it's an older building from the 70s with a warehouse behind it, which is typical for this area of Eugene. Once inside, I quickly felt comfortable and knew I was in the right place. The air was filled with a pleasant incense scent, not too strong to be unpleasant or obnoxious, and the hanging curtains added to the Thai ambiance. Most of the time, they played rhythmic drums music in the background, which was soothing and relaxing, while other times, it was more relaxing meditation music with flutes. When Tiffany, my massage therapist, first introduced herself, she asked me to remove my shoes and led me back to the massage area. The first thing she did was check my range of motion and assess how I was feeling in the areas where I mentioned the most discomfort. She also asked if any places needed to be avoided. This range of motion check is done regularly during follow-up visits to show the improvement over time and helps her determine the areas to focus on to improve. Next, she asked if the heat on the mat was at an appropriate level. Since Thai massage is done fully clothed, I had worn a loose-fitting shirt and sweatpants, and I found the mat more comfortable than a traditional massage table, especially when it came to turning over. Tiffany's Thai massage technique lets her use her hands in new ways, getting even deeper into the muscles. But she always makes sure the pressure is just right. Sitting during the massage might seem a bit odd at first, like during my first one, but it's actually super effective and has really helped with the pain in my legs. She also uses heated stones, which have given my upper and lower back lasting relief. I've only had the pleasure of working with Tiffany, but I've heard from other staff that they're all very careful to keep the pressure comfortable. Focus is amazing!!! I'm a massage therapist myself, and she keeps my hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders completely pain free. There is a very noticeable difference while she's working and immediately when she's finished. She's also loosened up some right sided hip pain that I've had for over 10 years doing abdominal massage. Acupuncture, other massage - I even went to a back specialist, and my GYN sent me for an ultrasound to figure out why my hips/abdomen felt lumpy. This place is amazing and is for anyone who needs true body repair. I do not recommend this place at all for anyone who just wants a comfort or relaxation massage, and their focus here is to be true healers and it shows. Toma has worked wonders even after only one appt I had seen true recovery and progress I haven't had in years. I've had joint inflammation, pain and numbness/tingling in my wrists/hands/forearms and she was able to make it better. My forearms were so tight that my fingers were curling even though I wasn't moving them at all and now I don't have that anymore. I also had various sharp/aching pains in my legs and along my T band from lifting and military workouts and she did great on that too. Here they ask you a lot if questions and try to identify what problems and things are causing what issues and they really show that they care and are trying to heal you, and will whatever is shown to work. They are very knowledgeable in their field and outside of that as well. For example, Toma was able to identify that some possible issues (believed to be pinched nerves) in my neck were contributing to the numbness and tingling in my hands. I've had Thai massage done from practices in 3 different places and this definitely takes the cake. I've had tons of massages over the past few years. Most of them felt great but never have done much for my issues. Tons of muscle strain in my back, shoulder mobility and upper body tension are mainly my issues. They have effected my life, job, sleep and overall quality of life. After all pain is no fun, we all know this. Well I can honesty say I found my therapist once and for all! FOCUS: You did a PHENOMENAL JOB today. I woke up with pain at about an 8+ right before my morning appointment and it's now 5:30 and am still pain free! The environment was extremely nice and well kept! I felt super comfortable the moment I showed up and the process couldn't have gone smoother. Focus is EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to corrective treatment and it shows big time. She spent time on a few different places on my body today and was 100% dedicated throughout the entire process! I feel so blessed that I found this place and will be returning without hesitation. I'm excited for my wife to start seeing Focus as well.
