    Chicken Shawarma Salad
    Leslie R.

I popped in for lunch and had the chicken shawarma salad. The portion was huge and it was delicious! I'd ask to omit the pickles in the future, but everything else was fantastic! There are tables, but it's a very casual restaurant, so I think it is better for takeout than staying to eat.

Cool spot! I always wants to try the location in Portsmouth, but I never did even though I live in Portsmouth. I will now go in there when I'm craving this food. I'm also eager to try their pizza! I ordered the falafel pita, and was told I could get fries & a drink for the same price as just the pita. I was hesitant at first, because I'm trying not to eat fried foods, but the fries were SO GOOD. I'm glad I had them. I will definitely return here again, and I am eager to try their hummus!

Best choice! Just here for a few days and found Five Boroughs. Thank you for your kindness in greeting me when I came to pick up my order and gifting me a bottle of water while I waited. This gave me a chance to watch the two chefs. One making delicious looking pies and the other working on wraps and pitas. My Falafel Combo was so amazing! It disappeared before my eyes and I couldn't take a photo. Topped it off with a lamb kebab which was flavorful and grilled just right! I can't wait to come back

Been reading the reviews and wanting to try them for years and we finally ordered here. Since everything is halal, we ordered the pepperoni pizza, lamb shawarma plate and baklava. I like the crust and the sauce on the pizza. Wish there's more pepperoni on it since it's rather on the 'thin' side but the 'large' pizza was really large and enough for at least 4 adults. The lamb shawarma was good although I thought they forgot the pita bread so I finished off the rice and lamb and only found the pita in the bag with the cutlery. The baklava for me was the best. Maybe I was bias because I've been craving for baklava since Ramadan or maybe they were they good. On the higher end since it cost $6 for 3 small pieces.

My friend and I stopped in for lunch last week, craving falafel and grape leaves. We were not disappointed! We will definitely be back. This is your new go-to spot for this type of comfort food. And the grape leaves were perfect. The price doesn't break the bank, the service is quick, professional, and kind. We truly appreciated this reliable local staple- Five Boroughs rocks!

Very very surprised that we enjoyed our food so much! This place is a definite hole in the wall that deserves more attention than it gets, and the reviews reflect how good the food is here. Got the chicken sandwich lunch combo for only $10, and I wasn't expecting to completely devour it like I did. The crispy fries were also super good! I rate it 8/10, I did ask for no condiments and my sandwich came out with both ketchup and mayo which is why I took off one star. My bf got the chicken gyro combo for $10 and he didn't say a word because he was busy chowing down. I tried a bite and next time I'm back I'll get that! 9/10 The dining room was very clean but boring, it can use some decorum and welcoming vibes! The cashier was super nice and helped us make up our minds on what to order because there's such a wide variety of types of foods; burgers, subs, pizza, gyro, shawarma, baklava, etc. We will be back! Overall a 9/10 experience :)

As an Egyptian-American who grew up in NYC, this cusine is my comfort food. Five boroughs has the best falafel in town, probably the best I've had since my mom's. Just like the original in Portsmouth, this location serves up excellent middle eastern street food. Definitely recommend you check them out!

    Wrap Shawarma (spicy lamb)

This little restaurant is located in Ghent right off of Colley and I finally gave it a try the other day. I was really craving some shawarma and knew this place had good reviews so decided to try out a spicy lamb shawarma wrap. I didn't know that spicy was an option when I looked at the menu but the owner asked me if I wanted it spicy and I said sure! Not only was the wrap great but it was so well priced for its size! The lamb was also tender which I appreciated because I've been to several places where it's overdone/dry. The wrap had some sort of spicy sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles (first time having that in shawarma but it was a great add on) in it. I'm so glad I found a good shawarma place near by because I haven't seen many in Ghent. I wish I had tried this place sooner since it's so close to me and look forward to going back!

The restaurant wasn't completely full but that soon changed with several families coming in right after us. The restaurant is on the smaller side, clean and decorated well. We went on a Saturday night and ordered off of their special weekend menu. We definitely over ordered. There were 3 of us and we had enough leftovers for a full meal the next day. We ordered the masala cheese dosai, butter chicken, nalli gosht biryani and malai lamb chops. The nalli gosht is the goat shank biryani, we got the order for 2 people, it comes with 2 goat shanks on a mountain of fluffy fragrant basmati rice. The goat was tender falling off the bone, seasoned to perfection in a spicy masala paste/sauce. We got it at level one spice but it tasted spicer. We didn't mind because the spice just added to the flavor. It was so good! We also got the usual butter chicken which turned out to be not so usual because like everything else we tried, the spice combo and depth of flavor just turned it up several notches. The masala cheese dosai was a great start to the meal and was fun to eat with our hands. The lamb chops were a last minute addition and so worth it. The chops were cooked perfectly in a flavorful sauce and served with a veggie slaw. Overall, we LOVED everything we tried and would definitely recommend Biryani Hub. The only suggestion we have would be to serve cold water or offer ice. Our waiter brought a bottle of water to the table with glasses but the water was more room temp. Other than that, it was a great experience.

Since I had…read moreInstacart food delivery credits that would expire soon, I chose this Sal's rather than my usual location close to home since it was an Instacart choice. Now let me preface this with the fact that there are LOTS of pizzerias in the area called Sal's. And I don't think they share ownership. Possibly many take their name from the popular Sal's on Pleasure House Road that burned & never recovered, having lost their staff to a new closely located Sal's. So a Sal's is not alway's a Sal's. :). Not recognizing the address, I looked closer in the Yelp map. The location is Princess Ann Road in the first shopping center on the east side of the road after turning on PA from Newtown Road. The cross street is Parliament. The location must be new since I own rental property in the area and have never noticed it. The pizza was good. But having spent a lot of time in Brooklyn, I consider (with a few exceptions) that there is no pizza but true NY style. This pizza wasn't exactly that. We chose my Grandson's favorite Margarita Pie & my choice, Margarita Pie with black olives & mushroom. The two 14 inch pizzas were ample for the four of us. But the pizzas were definitely not foldable. And the crust rim around the pizza was thicker & didn't have the crunchy edge that I sometimes have to eat before sharing with the dogs who love and beg for pizza crust. But that said, the pizza wasn't bad. Part of the Margarita top had slid off onto the box. I've never seen that in a pizza delivery before and I've ordered many. I don't know if it was the fault of the delivery driver or the pizzeria. The menu was more varied than other Sal's, which. though unaffiliated, all seem identical. You'll find additions of Greek items rather than just the normal Italian fare. In the future I'll probably just stick with my standard Sal's for a true NY pizza. But those of you who aren't addicted to the style should give it a try.

The wind from an incoming rainstorm knocked over the giant inflatable chicken outside. I made up my mind right then and there to stop by for a visit one day. When I finally got around to giving it a try, I dined in and was only semi-pleased. The staff were very nice, as the district manager was there at the time. The chicken itself can get quite chewy and hard to bite. The sauce is OK at best. The fries leave a little to be desired. The spiciness levels are very noticeable when requested at high volumes. I like that they offer slices of pickles with everything you order. The bread isn't too bad, as long as it's not soggy. When you order one of the Mozzarella Cheese Planks, they give it to you in a little box with a cup of sauce, a slice of bread, and a couple of pickles. I was not expecting it to have such a presentation and I have to admit, the charming nature of it almost brought a tear to my eye. It was just about the cutest damn thing I've seen in a long time. I mean, who thinks enough to do that!? Just pure thoughtfulness, that's what it was! It is VERY loud inside and the music choices aren't great. The interior is very flashy and riddled with graffiti-styled "Art". The one on Battlefield is a little better food-wise, I have to say. Which is disappointing. Maybe I'll give this one another try in the future. I still feel bad for the giant inflatable chicken that fell over in the parking lot that night. A force of nature shouldn't hinder the efforts of plastic poultry that's just trying to get the word out about Hot Dave and his line of spicy offerings.

Today I ordered the make your own bowl and selected chicken kabob and falafel. The chicken was tasteless and the falafel, which I love, was spicy hot. I have never eaten spicy hot falafel before. EVER! I have eaten a lot of falafel but never spicy. I didn't like it. I don't want my falafel to be hot. Also there were many protein choices that were labeled spicy. Why? This area is not on the eat spicy hot food until your head sweats list. I ordered the lemon garlic dressing hoping it would be like the garlic dressing at Cava (their sister company) but it wasn't even close. In fact, it wasn't even good. The balance was way off. All I could taste was the oil. Not a hint of lemon. The mouth feel was totally oily. The balance between the oil and the acid of the lemon was truly off. Maybe someone forgot to put the lemon in it? I hated it. I wish I hadn't put it all over my food before I tasted it. The service was very poor. I had an important question prior to arriving and called the restaurant twice but no one EVER answered the phone. Who doesn't answer a ringing business phone? What kind of terrible business practice is that? Remember when a business phone had to be answered prior to the third ring? I do. Last but by no means least, the staff spoke very broken English. Very, very broken. In fact, I think that some of the staff didn't actually speak any English at all. I am the last person to complain about Spanish speakers trying to make their way here. I was engaged to a Mexican National for six years and spent about 70% of my time on that side of the border. Consequently, I am much better at understanding English spoken with a heavy Hispanic accent than most Americans, unless they actually live on the border. Here in Virginia I find that most people hear a thick Hispanic accent and just give up and stop listening immediately. Well, today even I struggled to understand and the staff person had trouble reading my name on the order and needed help identifying it. So, I'm sorry to say this is my last visit. I have always preferred Cava to Mezeh and now I actually dislike Mezeh. Too bad because there isn't a Cava close to my home.

Another employee stepped in and claimed that build-your-own bowls don't include protein and that all protein is an extra charge. We explained that only certain protein options are upcharges (honey harissa chicken + steak and lamb) and asked her to ring the order up again to verify. After checking the register, she realized we were right and refunded the $3 difference. While we appreciate receiving the refund, it's concerning that the employees don't seem to have a basic understanding of their own menu and pricing. They both confidently gave incorrect information before taking a moment to verify the facts. Definitely check your receipts carefully to make sure you're being charged correctly. While we eventually received a refund, we had to dispute the charge multiple times before it was finally corrected. There was no apology--only arguments and repeated explanations for why the charge was supposedly correct.
