After saying we will try a five guys every time we've seen one in various places, we have finally tried it and was not disappointed. The place is pretty hyped up so I was expecting to be unimpressed. I still think in n out is better, but this is not bad when there is no in n out around. My one complaint is that the buns seemed too limp and flaccid like a fast-food burger. I got the small order with one patty and that seemed to be a good amount. Fries were pretty good too - crispy and not too greasy. First and foremost this is the only Five Guys I've ever been to. This place is been pretty consistent. It's large and spacious. There is ample seating and ample condiments. Even vinegar for your chips. Score. Never once have I had to ask the staff for anything! I look at myself and shake my head when ever I get something to go. I just had one of the worst experiences with take-out. We (Travis and I) ordered from Five Guys via Uber eats, the food arrived and the order was wrong. Mind you, this is the third time we order from Five Guys via Uber eats & this is the third time the order is WRONG !!! Now, consider this ... it's NOT Uber eats fault that the Five Guys order is wrong! Why? Because Five Guys seals the deliver bag so the Uber eats driver does not actually check the order. I called Five Guys. I was upset, at first. When I spoke to the manager - who did not provide his name, I got angry! He was rude, didn't care that the order was wrong. Said there was nothing he could do. I told him he could make it right by coming to my house with the correct order. Manager said he could not do that. I said he could give us a gift certificate because the order was wrong, he said he could not do that. In fact, all he kept saying was that he "could not do anything, that only the general manager could help us and that person would not be in until Monday. Again, I was livid by this point. Then the managers hangs up on me, THE MANAGER HANGS UPS ON ME!!!! I was so mad. I get dressed and drove down to the Five Guys but by the time we arrived, it was closed. We were so upset we threw away the food. Summary.... First, it's not Uber eats fault the order was wrong because Five Guys seals the delivery bag. This is a very well-managed Five Guys. There is street parking available if you know where to go. It's also nearly on top of the Courthouse Metro's elevator exit. Walking in, the order line moves very fast. The staff keeps the kitchen moving. The bathrooms are clean. All the peanuts you want to eat. All the space you could ever want to spread out in. I have been eating at this branch for over 5 years now. Hoping to continue to eat there 5 more. First off, Hector, the manager, is one of the friendliest and most professional people I have met in any of the restaurants in the Courthouse area. He talks to his customers and greets people by name. Wish there were more people like him in the area. Last time I went to five guys it wasn't a pleasant experience, this time changed my mind completely. Promptly greeted, place wasn't that busy. Ordered a little bacon burger and and little Cajun fry. I had everything in my burger , lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, grilled jalapeños, grilled green peppers, pickles , and mayo... This burger was loaded and tasted so fresh. The heating in this place has been broken for 3 years. I even contacted corporate management about it. No luck. If it's chilly outside, it will be colder inside. Bring a parka and plan to wear it while you eat! Typical temp is 62 degrees. I need gloves. The tomato on my last burger was green and hard, not ripe in the least. That was mid-summer! Parking is a huge hassle for this location. Staff is nice. Food is as expected. The sound-track, which is too loud, is stuck in late 1970s rock, which is about as bad as it gets. Official Ranking of DC Fast Casual Burger Chains (Non-Debatable) 1) Five Guys (*****) There is no denying Five Guys's supremacy- two patties, unlimited toppings, oozy melted cheese. As a DC original, it is the pride of the region and quite possibly the nation. Nothing beats their burgers and they give you a mountain of fries- Mid-Atlantic style: doused in vinegar and old bay seasoning (only way to eat them). Five Guys quite literally Made Burgers Great Again as they were the pioneers of casual fair. 2) Z-Burger (****) When I'm wandering home and I'm three sheets to the wind, an internal battle ensues about whether or not I should grab a smelted patty at Z-burger or not. If it's open, then the pro-Z Burger side almost always wins. It is almost as good as Five Guys in that, it's exactly like Five Guys- same menu, same style fries. A great copycat but if you have to choose why not just get the real thing? 3) Shake Shack (****) That's right. I said Shake Shack. Call me a sodosopaux urban elite but they have excellent burgers which are incredibly tender. The sauce is perhaps their strongest suite as I don't really know what it's in it. But it's good. Trust me. They also have an excellent chicken burger which is worth a pluck. That being said, they are stingy with both toppings and fries. 4) Fuddruckers (***) See Fuddruckers review 5) Elevation Burger (**) The burgers are very plain and they ofc cost a fortune. They push the whole "were organic" thing but I have had many better grass-fed, happy cow, organic burgers (try burgerworks in Richmond). I can see some merit in coming here but not on a regular basis or if you have a choice of the other burger joints aforementioned. 6) Boss Burger (*) Ask Terence what he thinks of Boss Burger LOL. In a few words, it's a classic U-Street rip-off trap. Don't be fooled by the whole "we serve beer from a tap" bullshit (they serve it in a plastic cup btw).
