One of the best Thai food in Zürich. Always good portions and recipes. Strongly recommend.

Great Thai food! After a week of stuffing our faces with pizza and pasta in southern Switzerland, we were craving something different. This happened to be the first Thai place we encountered while out on a walk, and it was just what we needed. I had the chicken satay, and it was excellent. Just the right amount of heat, and very flavorful. The mango ice tea was more mango than tea, very refreshing. Service was very good, even with a little bit of a language barrier. Sit outside if the weather permits it! We had a little table surrounded by pretty hanging lights, perfect for a relaxing evening. read more

Easily my favorite Thai restaurant in Zurich. It's hard to find authentic Asian food in Zurich. I was delighted when a fellow Yelper organized a dinner get together a few weeks ago at Five Spice. I've been back with my family since then to share this joy. The lemongrass tea was lightly sweetened and refreshing. The Massaman beef tasted very authentically Thai. The flavors were delicately complex and I savored every bite of it from the first to the last. The stewed beef was tender and tasty while the Massaman curry was rich, fragrant, and flavorful. Could have used a little bit more rice though. The chicken Pad Thai, my "litmus test" of any Thai restaurant, also passed with flying colors. The only thing preventing me from giving Five Spice Five Stars is the efficiency of service. I was there with my husband and daughter this past Wed evening when the restaurant was nearly half empty. While the waitstaff is pleasant and friendly, they are quite slow for no apparent reason. Maybe it's just the laid back style of Southeast Asia which they are accustomed to. Open on Sundays, which is a rarity in Zurich. Although a bit nondescript from the street, the interior is quite elegantly decorated and nice and cozy. My friend and I ordered from the house specialities menu to get something special. He really liked his Ped Pad Prig Khing (crispy fried slices of duck in Thai red curry sauce). Although it was listed with 3 chili peppers on the menu for extra hot, he said it wasn't spicy enough. I guess a "Swissified" version of Thai food. I don't like really spicy food, so the one chili on my dish was enough for me. I got Mussaman Nüa (roast beef Mussaman curry with potatoes, onions and peanuts in coconut milk). It was heavy and slightly sour and packed a punch. I'm not so keen on heavy spices, but it was good for a hot meal on a cold night. The mango cheesecake dessert looked really good, but I tried not to be a piggy and didn't order it. read more

The five stars is for their service. We returned late at night after an all day train journey (16 hours) train journey around Switzerland. We were tired and hungry and just wanted some hot spicy soup and definitely no cheese at that late hour. When we reached here, they were almost on the verge of closing up. They took one look at us and seated us and served us so quickly. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. In no time we had our soup, fried rice and meat on the table. This isn't London- there was also a complimentary bowl of rice with the beef stir fry! The food tasted really good to us. The portion sizes are huge and the staff is absolutely amazing. With just these 3 day she's, we still had so much leftover between the 2 of us. They offered to pack it for us, but since we were at a hotel and flying back to London the next day, we unfortunately had to decline. Nice garden in summer! This Thai restaurant offers good food in a nice environment. The pad thai is good, spring rolls as well. I regret that you have to pay tap water (CHF 1.00), and that the chicken comes from Brazil with antibiotika. read more

Super delicious Thai food. Definitely the best I've ever had! The flavors were so well balanced; not too sweet, salty or spicy. I only spent a day in Zurich so I can't compare this place to any others in town. But it definitely beats the Thai food back in the U.S. read more

The staff are friendly and helpful. In the US, I am accustomed to Thai food being spicy, spicier, and/or spiciest, but perhaps they are afraid to alienate non-Thai diners so the flavors are unexpectedly mild--a new record for any Thai restaurant I have ever tried. The ingredients are fresh and prepared nicely. There aren't as many vegetarian choices as I would expect, but the ones they have are satisfying. Perhaps if I return I will specifically ask them to make everything the way they would do for themselves and see what happens, and if my mouth burns uncontrollably it will be my own fault. read more

Best Thai food I've had in Zurich (and a few other places in Europe), sit-in and (very fast) take-away. Just went back with a friend who's travelled lots in Southeast Asia, who approved as well (I would have been a bit sad if she hadn't!). Some of the (meet-free) dishes I've tried: Pad thai tofu/veggie (go-to dish, huge, too), papaya salad (bit spicy and very good), veggie gyoza (good but could maybe be a bit crunchier). What really adds the fifth star though is their service, always very friendly and accommodating. read more

We ate here without reservations on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was pretty full so we had to wait quite a bit for our food. The five spice duck was yummy, reminded me of what my mom and grandma made. The spicy beef was a little too strong in flavour and tasted very sweet. read more

My girlfriend and I went here for our one night in Zurich. After searching for a while we decided upon Five Spice based on other Yelp reviews and I was craving Thai. We started with the crispy spring rolls which were alright, but nothing special, however the sweet chili sauce tasted as if it were store-bought. For our mains we both ordered from the house specials. I had the massaman beef curry which was fantastic. The coconut was not overwhelming and while it was spicy, it was not overwhelming and the tamirand and chili flavours mixed well. She had the crispy duck with tamirand sauce which was also a hit. The duck was drenched in a delicious tangy sweet sauce but somehow the skin on the duck was still crispy. Each plate came with an order of steamed rice as well which was great for mopping up the leftover duck sauce and curry. Service was somewhat slow despite being mostly empty and it was pricey for what we got, but in Zurich that can't be helped. All in all I'd recommend it. If not for the price and slow service, the food was some of the best Thai I've had in Europe read more

We had dinner here last night. The food was good, however the Penang was certainly quite spicy, so if you like spicy Thai this is a good option. The pad Thai was amazing and probably the best I've had in Zurich. One let down was the service. As the restaurant got busy the service slowed down to the point where we waited for 30 minutes for the bill and in the end had to go to the bar to get them to provide. read more

My personal favorite Thai restaurant in Zürich. The star dish here is the delicious crispy duck with tamarind sauce (Ped Tod Grob Sauce Ma-kharm). The other duck dishes from the house specials are also pretty good. As for appetizers, the dim sum is some of the best in town, even though it's a Chinese dish served at a Thai restaurant. read more
