TL;DR - Awful customer service. They lost a loyal customer who ordered often and tipped drivers well. I'm relatively new to the Gainesville area and in my time here Five Star had become my go to pizza place. The pizza is good and most importantly, they open late. I get off work at 2am so that is what made me a loyal customer so quickly. First few times I ordered things went great. Then one night I order a pizza at about 11pm and I get a call telling me they are no longer delivering to my location after 10pm. Sure, ok, whatever. Thinking maybe they were just understaffed or lazy that night I ordered late night pizza at least 3 more times and it was delivered no problem. Then I order a pizza, second time in about 3 days, and get the call telling me they don't deliver to my location after 6pm which is bullshit because 3 days prior I had gotten pizza delivered from them at 12:45am. I went and picked up the pizza myself. Today, and what brings me here to leave a review, I order a pizza at 4:44pm (looking at my order info right now). Thats 1 hour and 16 minutes before they can no longer deliver. Plenty of time, right? And so I wait. 30 minutes, 1 hour. An hour and 30 minutes later it is after 6pm and no sign of my pizza. So I call. I get told despite the fact that I have my order confirmation email and number they have received no orders from me and that I need to place the order again. No apologies, no offers of free pizza or coupons after making me wait that long plus however long it would take to deliver a pizza again. I told them I am not going to pay for it again. The manages asks me to confirm that I have indeed been charged and to call back if I have. I check and I had been charged so I call back. He promises to deliver the pizza as soon as possible (again, no apologies) and I figure that's the end of that. It's past 6pm and he knows my address so I figure that he is graciously making an exception to the 6pm rule since it's THEIR FAULT that we are outside the delivery time window but as I'm about to hop in the shower I get another call telling me that they've cancelled my order because it is past 6pm and that my money will be refunded. My question is: HOW ARE YOU GOING TO REFUND AN ORDER THAT ACCORDING TO YOU DOES NOT EXIST IN YOUR SYSTEM? Or was that a lie to save face? read more

The driver said there was a new person there who probably wrote it down I call the manager Diego who says they don't offer any discounts because it is late. I LOVE Five Star, I ordered after a huge football game and didnt think that it would come for a while considering everybody else was trying to order pizza too after the game but it came so fast still. Its so cheap too, I got a 24" pizza to feed a house full of people and it was only $25! Such a good deal and pro tip, definitely get your pizza well done, it makes all the difference. read more

Woke up today with an empty box of pizza in my living room and a full one in my fridge. The receipt said I had 2 large cheese pizza which came to $21. Kind of pricey for the quality, but they do serve it fast and hot. It could've been absolutely delish but I don't recall and have not had stellar pies in the past. read more

Needless to say, I will not be ordering pizza from this place anymore. It's expected to have some issues here and there with a delivery order, but the amount of times I've experienced missing items, rude service over the phone, and the complete wrong pizza MULTIPLE times is beyond me. It might sound petty to be upset about missing sauce, but when I call the downtown branch to let them know they forgot to deliver sauce I've purchased and their only response was "we'll get you next time", what does that even mean? So you'll send me a coupon in the mail? You'll remember my name? This last time I called the downtown branch to let them know they gave me the wrong pizza, they couldn't even look up my order. I gave them the name and address, and they said my order doesn't exist. How are you supposed to "get me next time" if you aren't even able to look up my transaction within the hour? The lady on the phone was not friendly at all. When the guy came to give me my correct pizza, he called me to ask what my address is because no one told him. When he got to my door he asked for me to pay. I told him I already paid with cash, and he said "You paid with cash online?" THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE! Get your s--t together Five Star! Do you want to know what just happened today? The guy came to deliver our pizza, and we paid (luckily it was the right pizza, I checked before he left). He counted the money and walked away. Then five seconds later he came knocking on our door and said we short changed him.... How do you miscount $19.26 total + $4.74 tip = $24, and then come back saying we only gave you $14? He clearly pocketed the $10 bill. I can give you other examples, but this is getting pretty long. We thought there was an incompetent employee here, an incompetent employee there. But I see now that it's the company that needs to fix itself. It's a shame the service has screwed us over so many times, because the pizza is really good. My money is better spent at Sushi 2 Go, now that's a respectable delivery service. I hope that guy doesn't steal anyone else's money tonight. read more

We have been Five Star Pizza customers for more than 10 years. Lately the pizza is taking a nose dive. The vegetables are cut up in tiny little pieces and hardly any end up on the pizza. The Specialty Deluxe we order used to be topped with pepperoni plus other meats and good visible chunks of green pepper and I remember tomatoes. The Specialty Deluxe now is nothing but a cheesy floppy mess with lots of cut up onions. It's not worth the $17.00+ they charge. I called and complained. The manager hung up on me. read more

Have always loved Five Star but I had never dealt with ordering from the 2nd Ave location and I wish I never had. The associates that helped me over the phone were awesome and helpful (it was for a large commercial order) but the manager was incredibly rude and insulting and hung up on me while on the phone. Since I'm new to Gainesville and a former Northeast resident who loves pizza I've been trying as many pizza shops in the area, (but not any chain stores such as Pizza Hut or Domino's). I see a lot of other apartment residents order from 5 Stars, so I thought I try it. I was disappointed. It had to be one of the heaviest pizza's I've ever eaten. The food is decent, but the service and speed of delivery is terrible. They are one of the more expensive 'fast food' type pizza joints in town as well. Within the past 10 days, I've ordered delivery from them 3 times. The first two times, I ordered a small 2 topping pizza, and the third time, I ordered two orders of pepperoni rolls. The first time, the driver got lost, and the pizza arrived cool, not warm in the slightest. I ended up throwing the pizza away. However, it was good to see that the driver had come to our home first (he had a double), and he brought the food in the hotbag. I figured that the driver was new, didn't really want to get him into any trouble, so I just chucked the pie. One to three days later, I ordered the same pizza again, but the food was delivered by a different driver. This time, though the driver was pleasant, the food was not in a hotbag; it did, however, arrive slightly warmer - 2 slices were consumed, the rest was discarded. This most recent time (July 4th), I ordered two orders of pepperoni rolls, thinking that the pizza would likely arrive slightly warm at best, and hoping that of the eight pepperoni rolls, at least a few would be warm enough to try to consume without reheating the product (textural change in the dough occurs very rapidly if reheating, making it difficult to eat imo). This decision was mostly based upon the packaging of the pepperoni rolls - they are wrapped in foil and placed in a styrofoam container, allowing them to stay warm for a relatively long duration (especially if kept in a hotbag). Unfortunately, the pepperoni rolls arrived even colder than any of the previous food I'd ordered this week. After reheating them briefly in the oven, one was consumed. I called to notify the manager that this had been the third time I had received cold food. He apologized, then proceeded to tell me that the food is kept warm (prior to delivery) and kept in hot bags to try to ensure the temperature does not drop too much before arriving to customers. This actually further upset me, but I thanked him, and assured him that I understood whatever excuses he may have offered. I found it upsetting because the past two times I received food (including today on his shift), neither driver had my food in a hotbag at the time of delivery.and this most recent time was quite possibly the coldest food I've ever received from any form of delivery (outside of cold items). As mentioned earlier, the food is decent, but I'd strongly suggest not ordering delivery from this particular location, as it seems the drivers have little care as to whether or not your food arrives hot or cold. If you have an aversion to cold food/'cold food that is reheated, a fast food chain (Dominos/Pizza Hut/even Hungry Howies) might serve you better. read more
