We've been taking our son here since he was a little older than 3. Could not be happier with the school. He has progressed nicely through their curriculum and is a strong, confident swimmer at 6 years old. All of the instructors are excellent. Even when he was a crying 3 year old, scared to be in the water alone. They were always so patient and kind. Make-up classes are available if you miss a class and always easy to schedule. They advertise on their website open swim on Sundays from 1:30-2:30. The pool is warm and I enjoy getting laps in. But they don't control how many people use the pool. I'm furious right now because I paid $20 to do some laps but there are multiple families with kids. There's no room in the pool. If are interested in coming here to do laps please look elsewhere. It's not cheap to use the pool and they don't limit how many people use it during open swim. If you have young kids and don't mind sharing the pool with multiple other families then it's perfect. If you want to use the pool for doing laps, exercise, or rehabilitation DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. If this place was smart they'd allot more time for people who want to use the pool to swim laps. I'm more than happy to spend $20 to do laps for 30-40 minutes but I refuse to pay that while the pool is jammed with little kids and families. Please make some sort of effort to state (on your website) if you want to use the pool for swimming laps it's not going to happen during open swim. read more

I cannot comment on their swim instruction, but I can tell you of our HORRIFIC experience having our child's birthday party at this place. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lack of any type of supervision or organization caused children to be wandering all over the place. Those who are supposed to be "in charge" did absolutely nothing other than put a piece of pizza (that we ordered) on a plate. Nothing - and I emphasize NOTHING else. So disturbing that the kids in the party were actively running around, jumping on chairs, throwing water bottles at each other's heads, of which we, as parents tried to intervene, while the "instructors" or "party hosts" assigned to our party just stood there. Doing nothing. The ONLY thing these lackluster staff members did was to "inform" us that we have 5-10 minutes left of the party room time and that we had to leave. So we then informed the group of parents and their kids (since the staff wasn't loud and just told us personally), and of which we all meandered out to the common area (of which no one was staffing), and made our way out. NO assistance was given to my husband to carry out gifts, leftover food, or escorting parents and their kids. Instead, when I got home I received a phone call message saying that we "forgot to pay our bill" (there was no one at the desk and we were being ushered out of the building in great haste). My response was to just put the remainder of the party balance on our card we had used to book the party in the first place (why would we even think otherwise)? The next day I get a message telling us they are charging us an additional $50 for "extra time" we took in the room. I'm sorry what?! Extra TIME? We were ushered out and basically kicked out of the place, as we were the last party of the evening. But because my husband had to make several trips back and forth to carry gifts, food, and children, as well as making sure our guests were taken care of, they insisted we PAY them for this time! Maybe if their lazy staff members actually DID something, things would have gone a lot smoother and more organized. I refuse to pay $50 for "extra time" when we exited their "party room" when asked to, even pushing parents and young children out in a haste, since no warning or time pacing was done by their staff. It has nothing to do with the MONEY. It has to do with the principle. If you staff doesn't do their job, and organize party time to make sure their is ample time to swim and eat, and have cake, then that's the company's job to train them how to party assist. After all, that's what we are paying for. If we wanted to handle it on our own, we would have done it in our home! So, yes, BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!! Don't go to this place - we are refuting the extra "charge" with our credit card as someone who is DISABLED should never be RUSHED to leave with 4 children and then penalized when they cannot move quick enough because the staff of the company cannot do their job properly! Nope. Nope. Nope. DON'T GO. Find another indoor swim place for your child's party! The worst organization and party that I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with and my daughter turned 10, so we have had quite a number of years of parties in different places. I absolutely love this place! I just started bringing my son here this past summer. After trying out a bunch of places i was ready to give up ( my son is a huge crier with a big fear of the water) but I got a coupon for a free lesson here and thought we'd give it a shot. The classes are so small and he was given such great attention by the instructors. After 3 weeks he was actually begging me to come to class and I can see a huge improvement. Everyone from the instructors to the office staff just seem to care so much and do their best to make you comfortable. I was used to such big classes where kids were just a number here they greet us by name! Definitely recommend this place if your looking for small classes with great instructors and people who actually care! read more

My wife and I , we go to Open Swim at Five Star Swim School, and the warm water it's great, the place it's clean, the workers are friendly. And they keep improving the place. Now they have Salt Water System, Pool side sauna! Also they have Fitness Studio and one of my favorites Aqua Zumba! We highly recommend this place. I took my daughter for lessons during the summer session of 2017. She was three at the time. I received a less than enthusiastic reception when I arrived for what I was told over the phone was a free class. After the trial class, the young lady at the desk charged me telling me the charge would be applied to enrollment if I signed her up. This should have been my first indication not to continue. Pros: -Some instructors were enthusiastic and made efforts to engage the group -pool area was warm and water was warm -facility was relatively clean Cons: -they say they try to keep the same instructor. This was not the case for us. We often had new instructors. -most of the instructors keep their eye on the clock. More often than not, started late or ended early. -the most concerning experience involved one instructor calling out, putting the other instructor out of ratio. No one noticed this until a parent brought it to the front desk's attention and another teacher was brought into the pool... with five minutes left of class. No offer to make this class up. - making up a class is a fiasco in and of itself. I found this to be a waste of money and my daughter learned very little. I now have a point of reference after being to other schools in the area... I would recommend looking elsewhere!!!!!! I was extremely disappointed!! read more

The staff for the most part seem like they are less than enthusiastic to be there. I did privates for my three year old because the classes made me fear for his safety. That should have been the first sign. There was no consistent teacher and each class he became more and more fearful until he was almost in tears the last time. I have left and we are now attending a new school and he is no longer fearful and is advancing. I give it two stars for cleanliness and price. read more

I took my 8 month old son here for a trial class. My husband was taking him in the pool, and slipped and fell in. My son and husband both went under the water. My husband cut up his face trying to get to our son. Not one instructor saw what happened, and neither did the life guard who was sitting there the entire time looking like he was falling asleep. There were a few kids, and parents getting out of the pool at the time so I'm guessing their views were blocked. My view was blocked but I can hear the very loud splash as it sounded like someone had jumped in. We asked the girls at the desk to rewind the camera so we can see this again and they said, the camera doesn't rewind. How can you have a clueless lifeguard who doesn't see an infant fall in the pool? There is also not one adult running the show there. It's a bunch of kids. I'm terrified just knowing my infant was under water. read more

Okay, here's the skinny. I had two of my children take lessons here for a few sessions. Pros: The instructors are great - they run a tight ship, really get the kids moving and learning. We saw many teachers there, no complaints about any of them. Cons: Just about everything else. The pool is not deep enough for the children to learn diving. The pool itself is small and with multiple lessons going on at once, they tend to bump into each other a lot. There is minimal space for parents to watch the lessons - a few benches along the wall, about a foot back from the pool itself. (prepare for wet feet!) The chemicals in the pool "room" are so strong, it's almost nauseating. After watching a half-hour lesson, your eyes will be burning. The price/fees are high considering their wimpy-sized pool and lack of diving. It's a shame for such great teachers to be wasted here at such a poor facility. Do yourself a favor, save some money and go take lessons at the YMCA in Wall or Red Bank - less money, bigger pools, still great teachers. read more

Best swim school in our area. Believe me, I've been to other places and the water is usually freezing and/or the groups are huge...not at Five Star. Ratio of 3:1 keeps me feeling secure and I know my daughter gets attention from her instructors. Locker rooms can get busy after class is over, but there are four showers and plenty of lockers and benches. I will keep brining my daughter here until she gets tired of it, but that never seems to happen, she is always looking forward to her time in the pool. In the bathtub she gives swim lessons to her dolls and copies everything the coaches say, so cute. read more

If you want your child to learn how to swim....really swim....this is the place to for lessons. Children are evaluated and then placed in an appropriate class for their abilities. My daughter went from being afraid to put her face in the water to swimming the length of the pool after a few seasons of lessons here. We've also attended birthday parties here and they do an excellent job. Only minor complaint is that some of the instructors are not as enthusiastic as others. read more

My children and I have been coming to Five Star for over 2 years. Absolutely love this place. From the swimming lessons to open swim to the fitness classes. Very clean place friendly staff and instructors love what they do and reflect it. There is always a fitness class going on, and staff remembers members their names and always greet. I have to give them my 5 thumbs up for dealing with some of the parents and children that do attend the facility not all clients are easy to do deal with. As far as for the swimming lessons, I totally agree with parents waiting outside of the pool area so children can get comfortable with instructors and feel secure to do it without being afraid.... see yah soon again! read more

I really like the swim school. Really great teachers, great swimming lessons, and there is open swim! Its like a public pool but indoors, which is great so when it is raining, you can go to the place! Plus its salt water so you don't get a rash! This place is very good, you should try it! read more

This place is horrible. The lack of supervision and attention to the children is so disgusting that they want to charge extra money for not managing their time properly. After the kids had their pool time they allowed the kids to stay in the locker rooms for almost an hour thus eating up time to eat pizza, sing happy birthday and cake time. The experience they had in the water was fine but that is all the staff was good for. This place needs better management, better time management, better staff, and a clue on how to treat kids . I've been coming to Five Star since they opened the place and I love it! My 3 year old son is doing amazing, very confident in the water and loves coming here. The fact that teachers change sometimes doesn't effect him at all. I guess he likes getting to know new people and he's mainly excited about swimming. I see owners improving the place constantly. Just recently they converted their pool into salt water system, which is a big deal for me as I am environmentally conscious and of course it's much healthier for my son. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn to swim. read more

If only you understood what it is to have an autistic child and how delicate it can be because of their disability and unable to communicate like "others ". Today I had to encounter the worst day of my life- ever. I took my son to his first swimming lesson- trial class at a facility that promotes they are certified / equipped to teach children with special needs how to swim. As a mother of a autistic child I do my homework before I go anywhere with my son. I checked their website and reviews. Had a 4 1/2 star rating so I was a little convince that my son would finally be able to enjoy a sport or better yet start learning how to swim. I waited a couple of weeks before I called this aquatic place when I did I was very very pleased on the phone the original person I spoke to on the phone was so helpful and clearly understood what autism as she explain the program and trial class. I did have a concern that being it was my sons first day at the class they would allow a parent to be apart of the session. The young lady reassure me that the instructors are well trained to be able to handle a session with or without a special needs student. When I got there I was greeted by the receptionist given a form to fill out which also asked the parent if my child has any disabilities which I did put my son is autistic as well when I called and set up the trial class I made them aware as well. Took my son to the pool area and sat till the young instructor called my son's name and told me he could come in the water. I was under the impression this young lady was given a heads up that my son is autistic clearly that message was not related to her. The young lady had another child in a session as well. Which I wasn't to pleased because it was my son first time with no floaters on or special approach for that matter. The instructor jogged between the two boys to give them a fair turn. Unfortunately, the lady tried to taking the same approach to teach the two boys the same way which in all fairness that is correct but not for a special needs child. That's how I knew the young lady hasn't worked with an autistic child before and most importantly she wasn't made aware either that my son is autistic and needs a different way to capture his attention especially for something that's out of his comfort zone. That already made me dislike how this facility communicates among departments especially for sensitive matter like people children. What put the cherry on top was my son nearly drowned because of poor safety implementation. The instructor was taking the other child to the other side of the pool with no concern that my son was left alone on the other side by himself and of course my son being fearless and not knowing what is to have fear. He jump of the bench inside of the water into the deep pool which he was drowning for a few seconds. The instructor rushed to get my son pull him up high and his face of shock and not knowing what just happened will leave a memory that I could never ever forget. I wanted to grab my son and rush out of that place and never come back. I took deep breaths and saw my son as he kept wanting to be in the water. So I just trusted this young lady to bring Noah back to tranquil after that horrible first experience for my son and myself. After the session was done I went to the receptionist and paid for the trial session ( which at that point I shouldn't have) but I did. As we were going over prices for the program- the young lady didn't even ask how was my son first session. Just straight to packages and prices. I asked her if the swim instructor are experienced with special needs children because I felt my son instructor for the trial clearly wasn't. All she said was " they do have instructors that are qualified but they are not available all the time". Shouldn't my son have been given the same opportunity as any other special needs child? Shouldn't the Five Star swimming school been more prepared and equipped to make swimming a wonderful experience for a child and parents as well? I wouldn't ever want any parent to pass what I had to endure today, no one. read more
