Great experiences with adventure southwest tours, we went to Antelope canyon and Horseshoe bend…read more Horseshoe bend was a cool stop in the desert but Antelope canyon was our favorite place! The light and the sandstone walls of the canyon were phenomenal. The orange light is gorgeous. You have to have a Navajo guide too once you enter the reservation for the antelope canyon. Our guide was a high school girl and she was helpful to get our best photos of the canyon features. The adventure southwest guide helped with ideas for other sight seeing places and she gave us history of the Arizona region. We opted for the tour where they drove us and provided lunch. It was a grand introduction to AZ history!

I will admit I am not much of a hiker, and still a week later am not necessarily walking the same as I did before I went on this trip, but I will also say that it was worth EVERY second of it. Havasupai Falls alone is enough to make the trip worth it with it's beautiful water falls and pristine scenery, but going on the trip with Walkabout made it 100 times better. Included in the price of the trip is transportation, pack mules to carry your stuff in and out so you don't have a heavy pack on your back, all camping fees and equipment and gourmet meals for the 3 days you are there. Who would have thought we would be fed Salmon, Chicken Fajitas and Chocolate chip pancakes at the bottom of a canyon!! The two guides who took us on the trip were so patient and kind and pushed me limits I never thought I could go. It is nice to know that next time I go to Havasupai with Walkabout, they give you the option of taking a helicopter or horse ride in or out of the canyon!! I am glad I hiked it the first time, but in the future the horseback riding looks fun as well. Overall it was a fantastic trip and I would recommend it anyone and everyone looking for something different, exciting, SO MUCH FUN!!!!

It really started off poorly when the driver asked us if anybody on the tour had a pass to enter the Grand Canyon. He said his boss requires that they ask so they can save money. My wife had to get out of the tour bus (van), go back up to our room and return with the pass. They saved $25, we got nothing. The price was extremely high per person for what you get. I thought you we would get to go places that you could not get to by car but all we did was drive to places on the rim, go out and read the plaques. They did provide a Safeway version of a lunch but it was so not worth the money. The Tour guide was nice and mentioned that we were the best group he's had, the reason being: we all spoke American. The only reason to take this tour would be to bypass the parking if the park was full. We went off season and felt totally ripped off. I can drive. I can read plaques. If you can make your own lunch, drive and read then avoid the tour.

I went out on a tour to Red Mountain with Billy, which was fantastic! I learned how the cinder cone…read morewas formed, how geologists can "read" the patterns in the formations to try and determine the process that gave it shape, general geology of the area, and learned to identify different rock types found around volcanic eruptions and how their structure indicates how they were formed (hornblende was everywhere, but olivine was my favorite!). I have only recently begun explore geology, and Billy was very good about explaining everything at an appropriate level. He is very knowledgable, so I am sure he would be able to provide a lot more detail to more expert geologists, too! The hike was pretty easy, but there was some scrambling towards the end which was optional. Billy offers number of different tours that vary in difficulty, and I would definitely recommend checking them out. Its a great way to visit new areas, or see familiar ones in a new light!

My favorite part of this tour was imagining what the area must of been like 225 million years ago when there were large rivers, lakes, trees, and dinosaurs! This adventure was a fun way to experience nature + education through understanding my surroundings while exploring. I was able to take from this tour the idea of stratification, the layers of dirt that were deposited over the years. Geologist look at the strata in the earth and are able to explain how the land changed overtime. I was able to compare that to my field of sociology and how I look at stratified societies and their different social groups.

We did not have time to plan the trip ourselves and we found Highland Vista Tours to customize our trip. We started with our planned itineraries and we had to make last minute changes prior to our trip. We are from California and I forgot about the time zone changes in both Arizona and Utah. Tiffin was very accommodating of our change requests and he also made recommendations based on his experiences.
