Pulled Pork MACwhich, very good!
Lisa S.

My husband goes here for his lunch break and has been raving about how good it is. On a Saturday we were out and about and he brought me here. He was right, it was delicious! I got a pulled pork smoked MACwhich and he got the Lil Piglet. The only thing I wasn't super impressed with was the bread but they are a bbq joint not a bakery. The service was friendly, funny guy he obviously recognized my husband and the banter was jolly. The atmosphere was clean and fun to look at, big tvs and good music. Looking forward to going back soon!

BBQ in the PNW is rarely anything to celebrate, so I was happy to find something unique in Tumwater. It was just a sandwich for lunch, but the meat was tender and full of flavor and the overall composition of the sandwich worked really well. Counter service was friendly and fast, and the space is just what you would expect when eating a sandwich called 'The Pig.' Will definitely come back to try a plate and some of the sides.

When you move to Texas, and are SURROUNDED by bbq joints, but you can't find the sauce that does it for you.... Flaming pig comes though. Little taste of WA, and all is right in the world. So excited to get my hands on this amazing sauce!

on my first visit the guy behind the counter was rude while taking my order but i let it slide because the food was okay and it wasn't that serious. this is now my second time here as i wanted to give it another chance, and not only did they get my order wrong but i also found a METAL shaving (pictured below) in my food... i tired to look up a number to call and all i can find is a number for catering no thanks.. highly disappointing as i was so excited to try them out on the upside the catfish was decent considering they forgot my remoulade

We thought the food was good. I think for a 3 choice meat platter, you are expected to pay $30-$40 anywhere you go. We initially thought the food portion was small but it was just right and we left full and happy. Will def return!

bbq pulled pork potato

The service here was great, a young girl took our order at the counter and let us kind of take a moment since it was our first time there. The interior was clean, albeit empty but that's probably because it was just after the lunch hour. I'm a southern girl, and my husband is from Virginia...so maybe we are a little harsh when it comes to BBQ (there aren't a lot of good choices for BBQ in our area here in WA), but we both felt like the food wasn't worth it. I ordered a bbq baked potato with pulled pork and everything on top minus tomatoes, and my husband got a sandwich (the pig) with a side of mac n cheese and a smoked sausage. My baked potato was soggy...and not from the toppings. It's almost as if the potato was boiled first and THEN baked? It was mushy/gummy rather than the fluffy texture I'd expect from a baked potato. It's possible that maybe it was just overcooked while wrapped in foil in the oven??...I tried to salvage it with some salt and pepper but I just honestly couldn't eat it and ultimately ended up throwing 95% of it away...I even tried to just eat the toppings but I couldn't eat all of it...and I hate wasting food. My husband's Mac and cheese was ok but it was obvious that it had been sitting for a while or it came from the bottom of the pan/pot. Definitely didn't look like the pictures. He said his sandwich was pretty good at least, and the sausage was standard. I will say that their sauces are delicious though! We loved all of the ones we tried, we got them on the side just to be safe and we are glad we did so we could sample them all. Loved the Carolina gold and my husband liked the flaming hot bbq sauce! It's possible that we came on a bad day, and it might be worth a second try on their pork belly burnt end days, but I was pretty disappointed in how a simple baked potato left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Sliced a brisket with smoky Mac and meaty baked beans.

I have been coming here for awhile now. I usually always get my go to which is the rob plate with two sides and a piece of your choice of bread. This time I went with the sliced brisket, smoky Mac and cheese and meaty baked beans with Texas toast. My friend got the pulled pork nachos. Both items were filling and so delicious. I love their Carolina Gold BBQ sauce. The service is great, and they are all kind individuals and plenty of seating and wall decor fit for a BBQ joint!

Rib plate with mac and cheese, coleslaw, jalapeno cheddar cornbread, sweet bbq sauce and Carolina Gold.

This place is incredible! We decided to try them out on a whim, since we're not from the area and I'm so glad we did. We were able to get a couple of the rib combo platters so that we could taste some sides too - we got the beans, red potato salad, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and the jalapeno cheddar cornbread muffins. Everything was DELICIOUS. We ate every single bite, and even finished off the sweet barbecue sauce and Carolina Gold that came with it. Each side was well seasoned and a perfect serving, and the ribs are served dry and super tender - the meat is flavorful with or without sauce, it's that good. The food sat well in our stomachs after too, which is often hard to find because so many places go heavy on the salt or grease nowadays. Not here! We liked this place so much, we decided to make the 4-hour drive (roundtrip) back to get it again a couple weeks later! Got the same thing, of course. Tasted just as good as the first time :)

Lil' Piglet, 4 BBQ Sauces, Dill and Lemon Coleslaw

Genuinely one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with going out to eat. The ambiance was non-authentic but perfectly acceptable. Various country and sports memorabilia decorated the sterile orange walls. It reminded me of the "southern section" of a Hobby Lobby. The service was fine. the server was nice, but the wait for the food was long, especially given what we got. The "BBQ Brisket Nachos" seemed like a bad joke. Basic tortilla chips, a cheese sauce with little flavor, limply sloshed over like an air strike of sogginess. The brisket placed on top was clumped together in the middle. The meat was made into oversized cubic chunks like a sad Stonehenge. The meat itself was dry, with little to no flavor, and so dry that biting into it was a challenge fit only for the masochistic or truly brave. That was it. Chips, cheese sauce, plain brisket. No jalapeños, red onion, corn, green onion, beans, nothing else. Practically a Lunchable. The "lemon dill coleslaw" barely had any lemon or dill flavor or any flavor at all! I doubt they salted or peppered it. The selection of four BBQ Sauces was all misses, maybe half a hit with the original BBQ that just tasted like a slightly worse Sweet Baby Ray's. The other three were much worse. The Lil Piglet sandwich was supposed to be beef brisket and smoked Mac and cheese on a roll; however, there was absolutely no smoked flavor in the entire sandwich. The sandwich was so dry since there was no sauce and so cold that even adding the BBQ Sauce to the sandwich did not alleviate how difficult it was to eat. We left halfway through and no plans on ever returning

Finally stopped at this place during a trip down to Astoria. I'm pissed I haven't stopped sooner…read more So good!! Food was real good, moist and fresh, great bbq sauce and their sides were perfect. Staff was quick, friendly, funny and clearly enjoys working for the owners. Definitely a little country style, not a bad joint what so ever.

The Sour Cream Standoff!…read more I came with my best friend and from the start the energy felt off. She ordered chili cheese fries and asked for a side of sour cream, something I have witnessed her successfully order there before. The server immediately responded with attitude, saying they do not have sour cream. My friend calmly explained she has gotten it before, however the server remained firm and did not offer to check with the kitchen. When the food arrived, there was no sour cream so I politely asked if she had checked with the kitchen. She replied, "We don't have sour cream lady" and walked away without clarifying whether she had actually asked. When she returned, I said I was not trying to be confrontational, just genuinely curious if she had confirmed with the kitchen. She admitted she had not asked because she "knew they did not have any" At that point I asked if she could please just humor me and double check since it would take a few seconds while picking up food. Five minutes later a woman approached the table in full defensive mode and asked, "Are you the one asking for sour cream?" She identified herself as the owner and was immediately combative. The entire restaurant went quiet. It was wildly uncomfortable. She explained that sometimes they did have it but they do not right now. The issue was never about sour cream. It was about the attitude and unprofessional behavior of staff and owner, as well as escalation over something that could have been resolved in a few seconds. Beyond that, the overall experience did not improve. The restaurant felt unclean, the bathrooms were rough, and the food did not make up for the tension. It is one thing to run out of an item. It is another thing entirely to turn a simple question into a public confrontation. Disappointing across the board.

Really good vegetarian options! The hotpot veggie broth is deeply flavorful, so the tofu, taro,…read moremushrooms, broccoli, pumpkin were great. The kimchi was tangy and not spicy. It grilled perfectly. I am not sure if the kimchi was vegetarian or not, I eat fish so I didn't check. My kids got the hot beef broth and liked it. There are many noodle options, including ramen, which the kids liked. They also enjoyed the brisket. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and checked on us a few times. How it works: Select your tier ($35/$45/$55). The whole table needs to be on the same tier. Pick two broths. Select five meat/seafood/tofu/noodle options to start. Go to the self serve area and get your veggies. Go to the self serve sauce bar and make up your dipping sauce. Cook your food. Value: three people, with soda/tea was $135 and I tipped $15. We got the first tier only. Hot food like egg rolls and pot stickers are extra and we didn't get any. Soft serve ice cream and cookies are included at no extra charge. I appreciate the pricing model but I found it expensive. This is more than we spend on sushi.

Was excited that another Hotspot spot opened up down south and it also had kbbq. I know a lot of…read morethe reviews reference that its $48 a person, which I agree is kinda steep since you have to pay for drinks like a can of soda separately for an extra $3. And if you want something a little fancier, they do have mocktails at $8. I spent $185 including tip and taxes for 3 people. The set up is nice as you can grill and have soup on the next grill. They do have a few booths and then some tables. But if youre a larger party, you might get split up if they're busy. I'd recommend reservations if you have a large party. But getting to the food. For the Hotspot portion, you can pick 2 broths and its set up in a yingyang formatted pot. Then you go to the "buffet line" to get your veggies, meats and etc. They do have some hot foods like chicken wings and some type of fried roll. Hotspot was just okay. I was hoping for more flavor. The kbbq was just okay too. But one thing to keep in mind, this spot does not have the exhaust pipes/hood like they do at kbbq to help with the air, so prepare to smell. Leave your fancy/dry cleaning clothes at home. When my friends and I went, it got pretty hot inside, and there was only a box fan. So being next to a grill and no A/C made it more hot and uncomfortable. Maybe its changed now hopefully. The staff was nice and service was decent. Oh, and they do have an ice cream machine, so that's what made this spot like a 3.5 out of 5.
