The scrambled eggs were cooked just the way I requested; however, I did not care for the pancakes. Flap-Jacks is tucked away in a plaza on 95th St but it's a pretty big place. I went at 11AM on a Saturday, Memorial Day weekend, and was still seated right away. There was a table set up to honor fallen soldiers which I thought was really nice. The servers were all very pleasant. They sang their happy birthday song to three different tables. I tried the taco skillet which was great. They also have a Mexican skillet which has chorizo, and the taco skillet has ground beef. The pancakes were just ok, I will order toast next time. I wanted to substitute half a waffle but they weren't able to do that. My husband had chocolate pancakes which he liked along with eggs and Canadian bacon. With the name Flap-Jacks, you would expect the pancakes would be delicious, but these tasted processed, if that's even a thing. I don't know if it was the pancake batter they use. A delightful local spot where staff seems to know everyone who comes in. And even though I'm not a local and it was my first visit, I was welcomed warmly and treated like I was a regular. For less than $10, that's a bargain today! My server and others checked back from time to time, and it's nice to see a place where everyone works as a team. No, "Sorry, this isn't my section" here. It's a pretty large space for a breakfast and lunch place, but it's nicely decorated with a small fireplace, giving it a cozy ambience. The only (really minor) criticism is that the restaurant's web site says it opens at 6:30. Hours here on Yelp!, which say 7, are correct. I've visited this location numerous times, it is usually my local preferred stop. However, yesterday my husband stopped in to have breakfast before he visited me in the hospital. He asked for corned beef hash skillet, no egg, his usual. However instead of the pancakes that comes with the meal, he asked could he upgrade to a waffle. They told him no, and he would have to pay an extra $12 for the waffle. He was going to get it, but something told him to ask about the pancakes and his waitress said he wouldn't get them. He settled on just the pancakes with his meal. And I'm thoroughly confused and disappointed with Flapjacks. It will be some time before we return. read more

Our waitress was nice and quick with service, she even helped us save money with our order. For the food I had the stuffed apple cinnamon french toast with a side of scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. The French toast was cooked to perfection and I love when they use brioche bread instead of Texas toast bread because it provides more flavor and richness. The apples on top were okay. They didn't really have the desired sweetness like you would get out of an apple pie filling but luckily the cinnamon sugar glaze made up for it. As a pastry chef I would suggest going with Granny Smith apples to help provide a tart but yet tender flavor to help give your french toast an extra boost. Now the filling was cream cheese and it was good but lacked sweetness. It was very tart and I understand why, to not over power the dish with too much sugar. But next time I would use Granny Smith apples for tartness and make the filling on the inside sweet. Then you have balance. The eggs were fluffy and good and the turkey bacon was okay. She was eating something out of a bowl with no fork just using her fingers and shoving this food in her mouth and then even licking her fingers after each bite. If that wasn't disgusting enough, she then turned and continue to grab people's food off of the line. The place is large, nothing fancy, a simple, local establishment and the staff is largely pleasant and friendly. This December 26th, the food tasted good and we had a good, responsive server. However, the prices were OUTRAGEOUS. I know costs have gone up for everyone and establishments don't have it easy either, but each item is so costly, except for maybe a FEW and not diverse combos. If you don't feel like an omelet with hash browns and toast on the side, then you're going to pay. Two eggs (which we didn't order) will cost you $9.99. Before we opened the menus, we each ordered a coffee ($3.69/ea.) with three orange juices ($3.99/ea.) and a chocolate milk ($3.29). So, before opening the menu, we've just spent $37.40 before tax!! Opening the menu and seeing the cost for all the ala carte items, I'll admit I had the feeling come over me that we should just leave. It would have saved us a lot of money and the embarrassment I feel for choosing to stay and allowing us to pay / spend so much money for a family breakfast. Lunch at Macy's in the Walnut Room at Christmastime for six would have not cost much more. Personally, for breakfasts anywhere, I order french toast, bacon and an egg or two. I chose to not order the bacon and eggs because of the prices. Another family member shorted herself too. Sad. Also, the point of the place, is "flap-jacks" - pancakes, crepes, french toast - their speciality. Having any sides makes the pricing - again, OUTRAGEOUS. Nutella and banana crepe ($13.99) with side of bacon ($4.79) - total here = $18.78 Plain french toast ($10.99) with side of sausage links ($4.79) - total here = $15.78 Denver omelet, including toast and hash browns (a combo) ($13.49) plus cheese ($2.19) - total here = $15.68 Meat Lovers Omelet, including toast and hash browns (a combo) = $14.99 2 eggs, bacon and fruit (a combo) = $13.99 Banana nut french toast = $13.99 If you want to split a plate or side with another person, that'll cost you an extra $3.29. 20% tip added on automatically and tax - of course, no problem there And that's how we spent $170.10 on breakfast. Crazy. Also, by the way, last year, we ordered our breakfast for pick up. There was a surcharge for the pickup!! I can't remember the amount, but at least $5. Overall, sad and not nice. Maybe I'm just out-of-touch. Don't know. What I do know for sure is that we're taking our annual tradition elsewhere - permanently! read more

1/23/22: I'm downgrading my previous review SOLELY based on them changing the pancakes. I checked them before I left & made a comment to Dawn that they looked different. I said I don't think they're the same as before, because of the texture, color & all the air bubbles on top. They even smelled differently. My son said they look like McDonald's pancakes & he was absolutely correct because that's what they taste like. I'm so pissed & disappointed! First of all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Second, I don't live near the restaurant, and it's a minimum of 40 minutes for me to drive there and back. It wasn't worth the trip, the price, or the gas I wasted. These new pancakes are chewy & rubbery. The equivalent of frozen, microwaveable, bagged pancakes, which I suspect they are. Look at the edges. No way these are made from scratch.
