Dr. Gordon is a great and unique GP. He takes his time to speak with you and asks a lot of questions. He has a wonderful, off-the-wall sense of humor. Although one might have to wait longer than normal for him - I take a book or usually catch up on reading the news on my mobile whenever I have an appointment - I like to think that this is because he is taking his time with each and every one of his patients, and this is what gets him behind schedule on occasion. After each appointment, I feel comfortable leaving his office having discussed my condition in detail. I like the fact that he records his notes and provides me with a copy after each and every visit. He also makes sure each and every blood test report is sent to me in addition to his office, and he always calls after receipt of each test result. His vast experience has helped him identify the root cause of issues that I feel others would have missed. He also tries to treat the underlying cause of the problem in many different ways, and without immediately prescribing medication as many other newer/younger docs tend to do (in my experience). read more

This doctor offers what's known as a Medical Concierge Service. This translates into only paying members (over $400 per calendar quarter) may be worthy of his services. I find it ironic that this doctor accepts Medicare for payment. His wealthy clients should be able to cover their own medical bills without having the government subsidize them. Medicare has no way of noting this membership fee in its database. The Medicare operator was quite shocked. Sad to see that far from reaching universal healthcare in this country, the US's medical system has degenerated into a major profit center where cash is King. read more

Showed up on time and i sat and waited an hour and half just to be kicked out of his office as soon as he learned i was not covid vaccinated. No questions asked , no reasons why and no cares given. GREAT DOCTOR. I can honestly say that Dr. Gordon is the best GP I've ever met. Few doctors today actually take the time to talk to you, ask questions (sometimes seemingly out of the blue, but in fact, related to your concerns), really check you out, and then give you an INTELLIGENT AND INFORMED DIAGNOSIS. Dr. Gordon spends more time you than any other doctor I've ever been to, and I've been to many! And that's a great thing, because he is a real diagnostician, asking the right questions to get to the heart of your problem. Less experienced docs now just seem to be working for pharmaceutical and insurance companies, basically "medicine by numbers." But not Dr. Gordon - he does what's best for YOU. Clearly a lifetime as a doctor has given him insight many other doctors would miss. What's more, he spends time clearly explaining, in plain English, what's happening, what your problem is, and how he's going to treat it. He also has a great sense of humor and good art on the walls! His office staff is friendly and efficient, and he makes for a great primary care doc, because sometimes he's the only doc you'll need to see. Old fashioned is true! He is super honest and not in the business for the money, that's for sure. He gave me great advice on how to lower my weight and told me I should be taking more vitamins. He didn't order any weird test, instead he reviewed my medical history with me and is the first doctor to actually take my family's medical issues into consideration. My older sister has a thyroid issue and as soon as I said that he ordered a test. He also attended my husband and prescribed an inhaler for his asthma. He was very attentive and informational. Truly the best doctor around. Found thyroid cancer super early for me due to a very thorough check. I was a and am a competitive athlete in perfect health. My husband Is a concierge patient. He fell and hit his face on concrete, injuring his ribs and wrist. Dr. Gordon could not see him for six hours after the fall. He needed a stitch, a tetanus shot and a wrist x-ray. Dr. Gordon did not provide any of these and we had to go to an urgent care facility the next day where they it's a stitch gave him a shot and x-rayed his wrist. If you knew the number of people he's helped, from celebrities to the homeless and anonymous, people who thought all their chances were exhausted, people who had never had a MD really listen to their body... you'd be floored. He is the Homo Sapiens Whisperer. He listens and understands bodies unlike anyone I've ever met. They broke the mold with Flash Gordon. How has he helped me? I'm on tour a lot as an artist... it's a world full of injuries, germs, and unexpected viral attacks. Yet you are expected to go on stage every night and be brilliant. Flash has tremendous experience with performers always knows just want to do for me. He's seen our family through everything you can imagine, on the domestic front. He helped my elderly relatives when they got unexpectedly sick on Thanksgiving vacation. They still talk about him like he was a gift from the gods. Love this doctor. Always practical and he looks at things others would miss. I recently went through cancer treatment. He followed along, and gave me updates and feedback on the testing along the way. That was very helpful. A doctor who cares about "doing medicine" right. While it is true that many folks simply can not afford the yearly fee ($1,800 or $150 a month), some of us who have a little extra choose to put our money towards our health. I prefer to save in other places (a vacation, or eating out), so I can have excellent medical care. Dr. Gordon gives me that -- he is a thorough, caring, and very experienced doctor who listens well and carefully -- and gives me the time needed to understand my whole person. The previous reviewer dismissively complains about Dr. Gordon's office decor. Here is my experience with Dr. Flash Gordon. I broke my right wrist in a motorcycle accident in July and needed to be have a physical exam in order to undergo surgery. My previous physician, Dr. James Taylor has a concierge practice with VIP-MD. I paid the $1,500 a year for the privilege of 24 hour access, but the doctor and I did not "click". I did not renew. I called Dr. Taylor's immaculately decorated and quite tasteful office explaining I was injured in a traffic accident and needed the required examination so I could undergo surgery in at Marin General Hospital. Since I was not a member, the secretary told me to get lost! I kid you not! My hand surgeon recommended Flash Gordon. Although I had not previously met Flash Gordon, I recognized the name since I had read both of his books on health issues for motorcyclists. I went to his office, which was closed during lunch time and knocked on the door. Flash Gordon opened the door, and I told him I was a motorcyclist and I needed his help. He immediately took me in and did the exam, in a thorough manner, then asked for more tests, discovering I have HDl cholestoral off the charts! Flash Gordon does not have a spiffy office 'decor'. In my experience this is a very poorly run practice. When I called to schedule my first appointment, I was put on hold for 10 minutes. After finally getting to make the appointment, I received an automated reminder call, which would have been great except they got my first name entirely wrong. When I arrived at my appointment, I waited for a half hour before the receptionist told me that "the doctor is running late and will be another half hour," making the entire expected wait 1 hour. (And the receptionist still didn't connect that the name on my folder and my actual name on all of the forms I filled out were not the same.) I can't speak on the doctor because at that point, I left. As a working mom, I don't have time for practices that don't have respect for their patients' time. read more

I don't like this new "concierge service" where you need to pay a huge yearly fee to see the doctor. The doctor states that the rationale is as follows: in order to give each patient quality time they need to reduce their patient load but still keep the high $$$ rolling in. Dr Gordon does it the old fashioned way-he takes his time, and he LISTENS. At the end of the visit he records his chart notes right in front of you, and it's amazing how he's picked up every little detail you've described. I think this is a nearly lost art. Also he has a wry sense of humor and you can tell he doesn't take himself too seriously. I've met with other doctors who were pompous and loved nothing more than the sound of their own voice. Dr Gordon is different from that, and better. I suspect this type of individualized personal care will soon be a thing of the past-corporations are taking over health care in Marin. Thank goodness for holdouts like Flash MD. Office staff is nice. Long waits for visits but that's true everywhere. At least here you know it's because the doctor is being thorough. I switched to Dr Gordon after not receiving appropriate care at Dr Curtis Robinson in Mill Valley last fall. He and his office staff make an effort to keep appointments running on time; I've been 3 times and haven't had to wait for more than 5-10 min for my appt. More importantly, Dr Gordon is knowledgeable and thorough. He uncovered the root of my chronic colds and annual sinus infection from hell. He referred me when appropriate to a specialist and also is dealing with a few issues himself. He is astute, caring and usually cracks a few jokes. It's interesting, reading the various evaluations of dr. flash gordon's work. Simply put, people either 5* LOVE him (like me) or quite the opposite, the one star. with very few opinions in between the two extremes. I've been a patient of this wonderful man for about 15 years now -- neither of us can remember -- and I feel as though I have some insights for those of you who have had negative experiences. First of all, I have a problematic body/ Difficult, tricksy. It's always up to strange things and dr gordon always figures me out. For example, I had been walking around with a severe mental disorder w/o taking it seriously most of my life. He's no psychiatrist, but his knowledge of the workings of the human brain/mind just amazes me. He has literally been a life-saver for me. A good doctor must be surrounded by a staff that can support him/her. Until NOW that has not been the case. I am pleased to say that he finally has three women -- three excellent women -- to help organize his free-wheeling genius. I am thrilled with them, because they help keep him organized, and they are all very fine people. I like going there more than ever now. The entire experience is much more stream-lined. The new office, at 1000 S. Eliseo on the second floor now, is much better , a one doc office which I find most attractive. That doesn't matter to me,although it's a plus. When I first started seeing dr. gordon he was located at an urgent care clinic in the canal district of San Rafael. Not exactly posh, you know? Did I care? Absolutely not. As most people recognize, a really good doctor is like a well-guarded secret, and yes, maybe those waiting rooms are full and sometimes people are inconvenienced. There used to be more understanding from the patient base when doctors were late, due to the fragile nature of the human body and the potential for emergencies -- but people are in a rush. Also, the population is not as intimidated by doctors as in the past, and in general that's a good thing -- but understanding is still essential, and comprehension and compassion for what is going on behind a skilled doctor's closed doors when one question leads to twenty more. Nobody wants to feel "disrespected" -- and there is something about certain doctors ... smug, contemptuous disrespect for the opinion of someone who is well-tuned into their own body -- ooooh I hate that, and dr gordon does NOT do that. He listens to me. There has always in my lifetime been a general tension among doctors and the rest of us. Something in their manner that, for many of them, presumes superiority. flash may be grumpy sometimes but the reasons any of us are kept waiting in the office are different than have been voiced -- there is NO disrespect intended. I've been on both sides of the doctor's waiting room! The doc hates being late, but he hates been anything less than thorough, too. One day I brought my daughter to him as she was showing some very odd signs and I was concerned. She must've been in her early college years -- something like that. He spent two hours with her that day, and yes, there WERE people in that office who probably felt personally disrespected, but a Master Diagnostician was at work, and nothing would stop him until he figured out what was the matter with my girl. That day he discovered that she had PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) - a pretty big deal for a 20 year old to deal with. (Of course all the proper tests were done that bore out this diagnosis following the appointment.) He was incredible, so kind and funny and reassuring. And I'm really truly sorry that folks were put out that day -- but real doctoring was going on in one of those rooms, practiced by a Master of his art. And with me -- I've been rolling around with untreated bipolar disorder for my whole life, and no psychiatrist ever noticed. flash gordon did. He has been an extraordinary help to me in this difficult body, and to my family. Yes, I do call him "Dr. Grumpy" sometimes -- there's NO denying that he can be that, but it's superficial crust hiding the wise, kind & utterly brilliantly unique flash gordon. Recently, I found myself in need of a new primary care doctor, so I asked around. At least 3 separate doctors and a couple of friends put Flash Gordon at the top of their lists, so I called for an appointment. After completing some preliminary paperwork (all of which can be downloaded from Dr. Gordon's website), I was given an appointment by the very friendly staff. The moment he walked into the exam room, I was put at ease by Dr. Gordon's down-to-earth manner. He quickly scanned my chart, asked me one or two questions, and within a minute or two, was giving me more helpful information about my body than 50 years of specialists put together. I left his office with a fist full of lab orders, a book recommendation, a follow-up appointment, and the certainty that I'd found something rare these days -- a doctor who really knows what he's doing and cares about my health. read more

Dr. Gordon is a 'SuperDoctor' in my book. In response to others who've posted that they have had to wait, consider the fact that this doctor actually listens and does not rush you. Currently we are monitoring my blood pressure to determine whether or not I should go on medication. Last time I was in he had 'Lettie' (his very nice assistant) test me over a period of at least an hour. Now I am testing myself at home for a week. I like the fact that he isn't in a hurry to put me on medication. Doctor Gordon makes the patient part of the healthcare process. A physician can tell you to do (or not do) whatever but unless you're willing to be responsible for yourself, it doesn't matter what you know. I think Dr. Gordon gets this point across (at least to me). I have the utmost confidence in this doctor. People ask, "You live in San Francisco, and you drive 45 minutes to see your doctor?" dr. gordon is peerless. His breadth of knowledge is unparalleled. Dr. Gordon "took care" of me in the ER of a hospital a number of years ago following a motorcycle accident. He missed the fact that I had lacerated my kidney and was bleeding to death. A simple urinalysis - if it had been requested - would have provided clear visible proof. Sent me home and told me to go sleep. Luckily I decided to pee first - looked like ketchup. Went back to the hospital, a couple of days in the ICU then the rest of the week in the hospital. Everything resolved under the care of other doctors. read more

I don't ususally write reviews but I felt it important to do so after I read some of what had been written. I just wasted two hours of my day and missed some important work items to sign up as a new patient for Dr. Gordan. I waited 70 minutes and when I said I had to leave for a work call, they said he'd be with me soon. They also said it is standard practice for him to be running an hour late. So now I have no new doctor and I'm behind on work. I'm very dissapointed. read more

I have found Dr. Gordon to be very caring and effective. For many years I had high blood pressure and Dr. Gordon was the first doctor to effectively relieve it. For six months he tried many different combination's of various medications until he finally found the right mix that got my pressure down to normal. He wouldn't give up until he was successful! He has been very caring and helpful wherever I have had a concern. I highly recommend him! WATCH OUT, however, for his staff! When I try to contact his office staff, I get the impression that they view patients as an unnecessary nuisance. In my experience, they don't return phone calls from the pharmacy or from me, they don't appear to give messages to Dr. Gordon, they don't respond to faxes, and every pharmacy I have used has had problems getting them to authorize prescription refills. It usually takes from days to weeks and If I am lucky enough reach a person, they have said they were too busy and I should call back some other time. It's a shame to have a really good doctor with such a poor and uncaring staff. I'm hoping he will read this as it seems like there is no other way to communicate with him. read more

Gordon is one of the most egotistical and terrible doctors I have had the misfortune of seeing. He did not listen to me when I recited to him my symptoms--rather, he interrupted me constantly and sounded quite disgusted with the routine I follow in order to maintain something akin to a life. One other reviewer here says he was gruff to a fault--he is quite that way. I was astounded that he would actually have a practice with that attitude. While some write that he doesn't suffer fools or fraud, he did not find out from me that I am a complex case. When I asked direct questions he did not respond directly. I have warned many off of him and many other doctors know of his disposition. Worse, he has no faith in the local hospital, Marin General, and seemed quite misinformed, uninformed even, of that situation. read more

Horrible waste of time and money. I spent two visits listening to Dr. Gordon babble about non related issues and gloss over my particular ailments and all of my test results. They also did not have my file or test results properly prepared or reviewed and failed to order the correct tests after my first visit. I had to redirect the scope of my visit to lead back to why I was actually there but still got no relevant answers. I was then rushed out of the exam room until Dr. Gordon found out that his next appointment had cancelled, so he decided to use me as a practice exam for a med student that was following him. I don't mind helping out if they're going to help me in return. I left with nothing except expensive bills for my visits and lab tests--zero help. I could have done nothing and saved myself a lot of time and money. If you're healthy and want someone to confirm it, go to Dr. Gordon. If you have a real problem, find someone else. And from one of the other reviews, it seems that he has the exact same pitch to all patients. What happened to listening, examining and diagnosing? read more
