I was thinking about checking this place out, but now I would absolutely never go to this church. They are a bunch of stingy discriminatory assholes. I just got done working a 10 hour overnight shift (which I have to do because I am deaf) and parked on the side of the street to take my dogs on a walk through lafayette; TWO HOURS before their services even start (because yes, out of respect I actually checked). I parked all the way down the street in the very last parking spot, which, by the way there are zero signs restricting ANY type of parking day or night on any day of the week ... meanwhile there is literally two MASSIVE parking lots for this church... along with parking all over every side street close to it. And as I'm coming back to my vehicle I see two security guards taking pictures of my van and peeking in the windows. I'm positive they called the police, because why else would they be taking pictures? I'm absolutely appalled. Profiling me because I own a van, assuming it's some bum or someone up to no good (my van is not ugly or trashy), when in reality: I'm a deaf girl who busts my ass working 10 hour overnight shifts 6 days a week, who happens to own a van I'm in the process of converting. And the nerve to walk ALLLLLLLL THE WAY DOWN to my van, skipping dozens of other cars parked on the same curb without even a glance, so that you can report me, literally get a life. This is exactly the type of discriminatory, judgmental, entitled behavior that repels people from churches and religious people. Fortunately, I already believe in God, and I'm not someone who was a first time church goer showing up early to get a good spot. I've known many who were turned off from religion and God in general for much less. So their only effect on me, was confirming my belief that all churches are filled with these types of people. I would recommend Stephen Furtick's podcasts, he is accepting of EVERYONE regardless of their color of skin, background, the vehicle they drive or their financial status. Wonderful, we have been going here for about 10 years and we have grown in our faith.

I love this church with a passion. I have been going to Flatirons for almost 15 years & it's been the best church. I can see why people complain about it being too big, but the size & the congregation doesn't bother me that much. Pastor Jim is hilarious. He has been the lead pastor since 2006, but he's still pressing the right buttons. I also enjoy the Student Ministry that I'm in, it's incredible, even with two of their pastors/directors taking me to an Avalanche hockey game after a Saturday night service. The worship is hands down the best I've ever seen. I know some of them, but they kill it. You need to watch their services. I would highly recommend this church to anyone who isn't familiar with Flatirons or with church as a whole. The entire ministry is on point & they are crushing it. Yes, I know the traffic is problematic, but I don't mind it. Keep the good experience & nature of this church going strong, Flatirons. You guys are the best & keep continuing to do what you do. read more

I see some reviews claiming different faults in the church. One sticks out in reference to masculinity. A great thing in my opinion! Far as Biblical principles also. Our God is a masculin God. He is a he, He is the great I Am! There comes a time the Bible says We eat meat not just drink milk. We grow up. We dont always and forever take and take. We stand up, Be strong in the Father and give. We help. Not live as takers. In order to help others.We need to help ourselves and survive this mortal world. read more

I say this as someone who gave sacrificially and generously to this place, volunteered in various capacities for over ten years, lead and attended mission trips, and was all in. Something changed substantially around 2015-2016. It went from being a place for "misfit toys" to find and "bump into Jesus" and became ... whatever Jim wanted it to be at any given point in time. Instead of worrying about trying to love like Jesus it became about petty tests of masculinity like "75 hard" and the crucible project. Jesus got replaced with a weird and very broken, very messed up, very unbiblical view of some caricature of masculinity. I know dozens of people who dedicated their lives to the mission of the church who got run over by it. And by all accounts, it is only getting worse and worse. Beware or in a few years you'll be run over too. read more

I'm pretty heartbroken about this place. My family and I went here for almost 10 years. In the beginning we felt like it was in line with what we wanted from a church and aligned with the messaging we wanted for our kids (prioritizing Jesus is love and welcoming everyone). We got red flags about 9 years in when our 5 year old at the time was told in her children's ministry that "boys are boys and girls are girls, and if someone tries to be different they don't love Jesus". I know this was someone volunteering in children's ministry, but it didn't align with our values and we didn't think at the time that it aligned with the church. We brought it up to the department and they apologized but didn't really take any action. And man it took a while to explain to our child that we don't judge people, but I think we finally unplanted that seed. After that happened, I started to dig a little deeper and noticed that they don't have any women as elders, which bothers me, and really no women in any senior leading roles. Then I noticed after Jim came back from his sabbatical, his messaging changed to more political leaning messaging. He started referencing political news media in his sermons and mentioning the lgbtq community directly. It made me uncomfortable (and to be clear I'm a heterosexual female, not that I should have to explain that), and I didn't feel like this was my church home anymore. My husband and I were so sad to have to make that choice and leave after almost 10 years, but it very much felt like a bait and switch. Thankfully we've found a smaller church that aligns with our values since we've left. read more

Very disappointed by Jim's latest message on Afghanistan. He made it political and knowing his politics makes me even more sad that he has not done his homework to understand the complexity of this situation. This is a massive political and MULTIGENERATIONAL FAILING OF POLITICS and Four Presidents - not just the current administration. My partner is a vet and the first thing out of his mouth was 'this is what happens when you negotiate with terrorists' . Well that negotiation happened before Biden's debacle. Thank god my trust is not in man but in a god who walks humbly - acts justly and loves mercy. I can no longer stand by and watch Jim's sermons - they are filled with sarcastic jokes at people who care for the health of others ( mask wearers ) - they lack humility- they don't support justice and they lack all understanding of mercy. Jim's tone and tenor is shockingly becoming more divisive and deliberate . I fear flatirons is becoming just like Mars Hill! A superstar leader whose inability to truly empathize with his community and care enough to put others above his opinions is beyond disappointing . read more

I've tried many churches, heck religions. Nothing has spoke to me the way Flatirons does. It's huge, overwhelming to somee who don't give it a chance. It was easy for me to ease into it because it is so big, you can get lost in the shuffle IF you want to. I've never wanted to be singled out as a new person and that happens and it turns me off to church. Here, there are many social groups and volunteer / community opportunities that you can choose to partake in. Most importantly, they speak to you in real life terms. Today's real life. The pastors relate to issues that we all have and tell the stories from the bible in that way. Give it a chance for yourself. read more

I am proud to call Flatirons Community Church (FCC) my home, and I enjoy serving here on certain weekends as well. The messages here have been the biggest reason as to why my wife and I have kept coming back. They do not hold back on tough topics like many "mainstream" mega-churches employ in order to appease their congregations. At times the pastor's rub shoulders the wrong way. Not necessarily because that is the desired intent, but in most cases it is because the truth tends to hurt. I can definitely admit that the message given on any number of weekends have been pointed towards my own situation. I don't want to say that guilt is purposefully employed, but in order to make right what is wrong things need to be point out. It is almost always presented in a loving manner, though. From my own experience it is easy to see why people might not want to attend here, mainly because the services are so large...and parking tends to be a bit crazy. My recommendation for any new people would be to come early and come to one of the earlier services on Saturday night (the 5pm service) or Sunday morning (the 9am service). If one wants to, though, the services are always posted online. One can attend their local church (whether they live in CO or are stationed in another country) and get the experience of the messages from Flatirons. If we happened to move too far to attend, this would almost certainly be the way we would do it. It is completely understandable, though, why some people that live in this community may not enjoy the traffic disruptions that occur during the weekend service times. That is a difficult thing to get around, I don't contest that. My hope is that the church is not merely judged by this fact, but I also hope that those that attend here will also be as considerate as possible so as to lessen the burden to the community when they come. Lastly, Flatirons is not just weekend services. They have a Craigslist-like site (called Flatirons-list) where people in the community post small group meeting times and locations, including themes. Also, FCC has a Friday evening gathering called SHIFT. This gathering breaks up into small groups for issue specific talks. The thing about this is that this is something anyone can and everyone probably should attend. The regular church size may scare some people away, but this could probably alleviate that. During the times of the weekend services, though, they do offer excellent Sunday school for children from newborns to 5th graders. There are so many things that could be added to this review, so the best options are to check it out in person for yourself and/or check out their website. It'll give more info on all the different programs/seminars that are coming up as well as the chance to check out one of the messages online (in fact, the messages can be downloaded through iTunes, either in audio or video format). This is an amazing church. Though we attend only when in the metro area, we feel a part of this body. The people, paid staff, volunteers, and attenders, are so friendly and welcoming. It is a church with large attendance, but has a comfortable, come as you are attitude. The music is intentionally loud, but ushers you into a time of sweet, intimate worship. The word is preached with application, and interspersed with real life authenticity. Come about 20-30 minutes early. Enjoy a coffee and a bagel. read more

This is the BEST church out there. Everyone is welcome, dress how you want, free coffee and cookies and an amazing team to welcome you. The pastor Jim will talk about real life experiences and how you can use God in your everyday life to overcome hard times. You will not regret trying this church, it has changed my life for the better. I would like to start by saying I was in a bad place in my life when I found Flatirons. It is by far the most accepting church I have been too. I always felt uncomfortable and guilty in other churches my entire life but not this one. They are very accepting and non judgmental of every one including gay people. I would probably wager that Jane W has never set foot in Flatirons. Also if she would have attended the service after the boulder daily camera article and hear Pastor Jim's response to a very one sided article I think her take might be a little different. Some may also think that this is a church for young people but it is not. I am 35 and my parents in their sixties recently started attending regularly after I invited them. I can talk all day about how wonderful Flatirons community church is but why don't you just come and see for yourself? Worst cast scenario you don't like it and never have return, but it could also be just the place you have been looking for..... read more

There are still many great things about Flatirons but I've changed my 5 star review to 3 due to the recent change in direction. There are many pastors there who have genuine and compassion for all people. However, they have made it clear that political stances are more important than reaching out with love and Grace. Political differences are fine, differences in theology is normal, but insisting that the pastor's worldview is the most correct has made me look to other more Christ centered teachers. read more

I love going to church at Flatirons and so do my kids and their friends. It is an uplifting hopeful atmosphere with it's roots in biblical truth. The crazier the world gets the more I like to step out for an hour and experience the love of community and be reminded Jesus is King. read more

My husband and I are both very picky about churches. We've both become pretty jaded about all the "religious" aspects of church. Who ever said church had to have a certain protocol of doing things and saying things a certain way? A church is about the people, finding Jesus and studying the scripture to apply to our current lives. Anyway, that's where we come from. I liked what I was reading from these comments from Yelp and felt this was worth a shot. We decided to go to the 9am Sunday services. From the first Sunday we visited, we were both very impressed. They cut the worship in half from other typical churches, do about 2-3 songs at the start and 2 songs at the end. They turn the lights off like a concert stage so you feel much more private about your worship experience. The worship band is quite professional and incorporates a modern rock song that relates and transitions to the sermon topic. The two pastors we've been hearing speak so far have been amazing. I quickly lose my attention during this part of church, but the way they deliver their message is quite riveting, applies to our raw modern lives, they don't hide behind a cloth of trying to be perfect in front of us - they are sinners too. We are so impressed by their intelligence of how they can get a deep message across in such a short time. We have already learned new things about scripture (after a lifetime of Sunday School, church, attending a private Christian university, etc.) and have been very pleased with the teaching. They leave us talking about how much we love the sermon or aspects of the church during our drive home. The service is quite short too - 1 hr to 1 hr 15 min at most. We're not exhausted after service is over. This church is also highly dedicated to the local community. We watched them put on a special "prom night" for the handicapped teens and adults in the community to have a special night just for them - and from the video it made me tear up to watch how special that was. They had a highly successful back-to-school supply drive, as well as an amazing food drive. They are quite generous with their money in donating back into the community, so we feel very secure in contributing into the offering buckets (kept at the back of the auditorium - no passing down the rows). I never thought I'd hear my husband so happy to attend church again (he was raised in the Southern churches forced to attend 6 times per week). He actually told me he's excited to raise our future children (when we're ready to have them) here. And as fun as this church sounds, it's not just for the young crowd - we see plenty of elder folks here too who I think come more for the great message (they do provide earplugs for free at the door if the music is too loud for you). We really felt right at home from the first visit and we look forward to any Sunday we can go back. I'm actually asking my family to come visit us some weekend so we can introduce them to our new home church. :) read more

Check it out if you are look for a non-denominational church that speaks of Grace and Truth and talks to your heart through Christ. Jane W says they are not progressive because of what a news article stated. Um, does progressive mean you throw out the teachings of the Bible and just teach what is politically correct? Sorry, that won't work. Listen to what Jim had to say and get both sides before you make your opinion. WOW! First, I'm not a religious fanatic or a spiritual guru looking to "spread the word", hand out pamphlets, or have you listen to my testimony. And that is why I really dig this "church." It is like no other church I've been to. They start the "service" off with a loud Rock-n-Roll Band (this night they kicked it off with "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top. It's their way of getting the folks from the lobby into the enormous big screened, live TV fed auditorium (not pulpit). I'm not a Christian but was attending as a guest of my family. This was my first experience of a megachurch and I was impressed. If this is what it takes to keep a contemporary Christian congregation active and involved, then sobeit. The service by - I think - Pastor Jim was excellent. The videography, light, sound, Christian rock performances were all a fun use of modern rock and roll production values in the service of spirituality. This isn't my cup of tea but Flatirons seems to be playing a positive role in many peoples' lives and that is what counts the most. read more

Delivered Everything Promised: It's loud when the music plays. Tattoos and piercings are significantly well represented. Interpretation of the Bible is edgy. There are lot's of kids, lot's of traffic and lots of coffee. God's love is present. TRUE STORY: I found Flatirons (or it found me) in 2008. At that time I lived on Hatteras Island in North Carolina, and regularly watch/listened on the website. My construction business was failing from the mortgage fallout, my marriage was failing from the business failing, my faith was failing because my life was failing. My wife had family in Lousville, CO. Seeking change, I flew to Denver for a few job interviews, to save $ I stayed with my in-laws in Lousville. I needed to stop at a grocery store on the way up from Denver. I had a rental car equipped with the NEVERLOST navigation system. I told it what I needed, and followed it's directions. It was around 4:30 on a Saturday and as I was approaching my destination I found myself being directed by a parking lot attendant (in the middle of the street) waving bright orange direction signals. I thought for sure I was lost . . . remember, I asked for a grocery store. I had been led to FCC, formerly a grocery store, with a grocery store across the street, but I knew why I was there. I called my in-laws, told them I'd be late, and joined the congregation physically, for the first and only time, I acknowledge the divine intervention. Thank you Flatirons, for reminding me that I'm never lost, and for rockin' it in your own special way. read more

This church has a very contemporary way of communicating and eternal message with down-to-earth appeal, and a dash of humor. The children's ministry is exceptional. My daughter LOVES it. We like to come to Saturday nights at 5:00 or 6:45, because (while still packed) the crowds are actually quite a bit more manageable then on Sundays. read more

Went for Easter. So many people showed up which was wonderful, but they didn't do a salvation prayer or invitation for people to accept Jesus Christ as their savior at the end of service. They could have saved so many people today, but passed on the opportunity... Definitely unsettling. I enjoyed the sermon especially the second half. I would have probably come back because their praise and worship was wonderful as well, but a salvation prayer and invitation makes or breaks literally everything... I can't recommend this church to others for that reason. Everyone deserves a chance to accept Jesus Christ as their savior and holding people back from that makes 0 sense to me. I pray they reconsider because I can't imagine why they would leave something so so important out of their service ALL days, but ESPECIALLY Easter. read more

Haha I had no idea churches were on here! I attended this church before I went to California and now that I've moved back, I'm back here again. This is truly a great place and I love their "me too" phrase. Reminds every one that - hey! We are ALL human & need grace & want love! Thier teachings (at least I feel like) don't shove things down your throat, but present another perspective and let you work it out with God. They also really focus on creating community, and give back to their community quite a bit. They are also really involved globally, and partner with great groups around the world (Afghanistan, Uganda, etc) who are doing awesome things. As always, they are a church made up of humans and all humans mess up. So, I can't expect perfection but at least most of these people are real. read more

I visited Flatirons church for the first time this Saturday and was pretty impressed. If you are going to checkout Flatirons be prepared for a high energy experience. The worship service begins with an impressive modern Christian rock performance. The church has a sound and lighting system that puts 80% of the nightclubs in Denver to shame. The pastor had a good sense of humor and his sermon content was fresh. After the sermon the college group threw a pretty impressive dance party, with food, beverages (Non alcoholic), an impressive laser system and actually a pretty decent DJ spinning Top 40. Never thought I'd hear 'Fly Like a G6' in a church. There was no bump'n grinding though, apparently that's where they draw the line. This seems like an excellent church for college kids, but I'm wondering what they have for post college aged people like me in their mid 20's. Flatirons pulls off a very polished church experience while at the same time feeling very friendly, inviting and genuine. read more

This chruch is not a church! It only cares about money and the gospel isn't taught. The preacher speaks fast, talks a lot, but nothing substantive. We went to mass before the pandemic many times, but the last straw was a lecture on donating and they didn't even let you know that they owned the recipient! Go to their covid-19 page, first major links are to donate! Don't drink the cool-aid or eat the Einstein bagels they use to lure you in. I visited this church to observe the ASL interpreter. The experience was nothing like I have had before! First of all the church is huge and people line up early just to get inside. Everything was pretty causal and the service was really loud! But the pastor was very engaging and funny, I couldn't believe how much I laughed. The sermon focused on applying messages from the bible to everyday experiences which I really liked. read more
