I went there for middle school and it is the best school ever I like it because it is big

This is in reference to their Magnet Program. I have nothing negative to say - great teachers who actually teach, challenged my daughter throughout her 3 years there, and who actually addressed any concerns I had, of course with respect to my child. Would I recommend their program - definitely! Now the school as a whole - that's a whole different issue. It's honestly a good school it just in the student how they are and how they act in and out of school so don't go beast on what some saying because there kid could just be a bully and I have seen everything in my 3 year in that school, good test good magnet program and good staff clean campus. Thanks to Ms Ramirez the new principal the past 4 year it's been its best and there BTB is really good they have a lot of sports for your child, the boys and girls club is not what I would recommend they have a lot of problems with kids and try to pick a fight with parents. read more

This middle school was pretty cool I got some complaints but nothing bad to say a rounded school all around

My son went to this school and everyday he spent his 6th grade year getting jumped and he was even pushed to the floor and and was dragged by the same 6 people, then he was even chased and asked a teacher for help she just looked at him and watched him get chased this school doesn't care much about their students safety, Then I hear my kid tell me about how he was literally forced onto a wall just trying to get to his science class and during p.e had a knife pulled out on him this school really and I mean really needs to be checked. read more

DON'T send your kids here if you can help it!!! The principal, Peter Hastings supports the bullies and not the victims. So many good teachers transferred out when he took over. I've talked to a few and they had a lot of bad things to say about him and his posse, but they didn't have to tell me...I had first hand knowledge. Those who remain there are too afraid to do anything; again first hand knowledge and one teacher emailed me and told me everything, so I have it in writing! Such a shame! read more

My son (a 7th grader), 2 of his friends and other kids were jumped/hit by 8th graders on October18th after the passing of Mr. Willis (this was their way of honoring him by hitting kids who weren't dressed for p.e.) my son was the one that got in contact with me to let me know what had happened. (No one called me from the school ) I did meet up with the vice principal (Mr. Paek) and the dean (Mrs. Barrera) that very same day. They got information from our kids and said they would be calling us by the end of the school day (3pm) I never heard from anyone. Here comes Monday and I was at the school by 8am with my son asking to speak to the vice principal or the dean. They had me wait in the attendance office because the dean was speaking to another parent. (It was a parent to one of the kids that hit my son) so I'm thinking ok they are taking care of business but I was keeping a close look at that parent and the kid when I saw the mom walk out of the school and the kid go to class like nothing happened. I did question. The dean about it as soon as she got with me in the room and her response was she couldn't discuss the discipline the kid was receiving with me because he was a minor. Well he sure didn't look like any kind of disciplined was given. The vice principal came in and said they already knew who the attackers were and that they would take care of the situation and asked my son if there was something he can do to help my son feel comfortable and safe at school. My son asked if he can change the kids from the p.e. period (they were. Ot in the same class) and he promised my son that if he came back to school the next day (Tuesday) those kids would not be in that period anymore. My son agreed. We went back Tuesday morning only to find out the none of the kids were removed from that period instead he offered to move my son from the period. Like really??? My son is the victim and you want to move him from the period??? You want him to pay the consequences for them.... My son didn't want to because he said he liked the class and the period it was in. He already felt comfortable with the teacher and his other classmates...But didn't want to stay in school that day. .My son has anxiety and was scared to go back to school thinking it's going to happen again and I really didn't want to push it. So I did keep him home AGAIN. I got in contact with his teachers and explained what had happened to him which they were all surprised they were not informed by the vice principal or the dean of what had happened yet... OMG now I'm mad. I went home. Talked to my son and convinced him to go back to school the next day (Wednesday) that they (vice principal and dean) already knew who the kids were and nothing was going to happen to him. Here comes Wednesday I send my son to school and by 10:30ish he is texting me to go get him because other kids went up to him during that same p.e. period threatening him that they knew he was the one that "snitched " on the other kids and that they were going to "get him" and here I am going back to school again. By this time I am furiously crying and screaming at the dean and the vice principal and told them that I was going to file a complaint against them with the school district since they weren't doing anything against those kids and my kid was still getting picked on. Tell me why the vice principal had the nerve to offer to transfer my kid to another school and I told him he was a ridiculous joke. Why doesn't he do anything against those kids instead of trying to transfer my kid to another school??? Why does my kid have to pay the consequencesfor the things that they did??????? I ended filing a report with the school district (LAUSD) and requested school police the next day to file an report with them as well, which I did. The school district said they would follow up with the school and the principal (Dr. Karuza) from the school would be contacting me soon. Thank god my son stopped getting picked on but It's March 12th and no one has called me yet. I'm very disappointed in the way things got handled. read more

The special Ed is good and the staff but the after school is not good they have to walk you to the restroom and there was ten flights

I loved my experience at this school. I entered fall of 2009 graduated and culminated spring of 2012. I attend the university of Hawaii. From Preschool/Kindergarten, Elementary school at president, and Highschool at Narbonne and Fremont highschool I have the best memories at Fleming Middle School. I memorize all my teachers like the back of my hand. 6th Grade Period 1. Math Hataye, Period 2 Science Hataye, Period 3. History Mrs Lee, Period 4 English Mrs. Lee, Period 5 PE with Mrs Primosch, Period 6 English With Mrs Lee first semester, Math with Mrs Dominguez 2nd Semester. HOMEROOM Service Club with Wozniak 7th Grade Period 1. With Mrs Allison, Period 2. PE with Mr Kojima(My Favorite and reason why I want to be a PE Teacher at this school) , Period 3 Pre Algebra Mr Bletcko, Period 4 History with Mrs. Nader, Period 5. Orchestra with Mr. Wozniak, Period 6 English with Mrs Avina HOMEROOM service club with Wozniak 8th Grade Period 1 Physics with Mr Chhun (learned so much from you that is still useful in highschool and college), Period 2. I helped out in the office but then helped TA for Mr. Kojima's class, Period 3. English with Mrs. Sasaki, Period 4. I had PE with Mrs Primosch, Period 5 History with Mrs Cox, Period 6. Algebra with Mr Aefedt. HOMEROOM Mrs Primosch I was in Magnet. Mr Webster. Was my Counselor. I remember people like Mr. Donahoe, Mr. Diaz, Mrs Settle, Mrs Hackett, Officer Willis. Understand it's hard to read or you might not care. But this schools stuff is not the problem at all. Maybe blame some of it on the students. I love everyone who works here. I think about all you guys a lot and every memory I had here. I hope to be working there once I get my degree and teaching credential. Thank you guys for everything you've done for me. read more

My child attended here for 6th and 8th grade. She was on a IEP and i never saw any improvement. On the IEP meeting i was told that my child should seek a Dr to check for further head problems. I insisted that there's nothing wrong with her. She had 3 absences and a good student never tardy once. But apparently that was not enough for her to culminate. She did drop her grades at beginning of the year but raised them. She still was not able to culminate. Oh but others that had gotten in to fights and were constantly tardy or absent were able to culminate. When i spoke to the principle she was being a bitch about her culminating. I spoke to the district south and i guess who ever helped me worked at that school and was on her side. None of the teachers care about the children. Now she's in HS and let me tell you..... she has A's and B's. She's a 9th grader not even the end of the school year and she's great with grades. That only speaks a lot about Fleming. I regret her going to that school not even a certificate was given to her. read more

Fleming magnet program is awesome. I have put one child through it and he was ready for high school. The school is clean and safe. I have not had any issues with this school at all. My daughter now attends. She is not in the magnet program, but she really like her school. It's a very good school. read more

DON'T let one review help you form an opinion. First of all, our school is called "Fleming Middle School," not "Fleming Junior High School." I have been teaching at Fleming for 15 years, and I am quite tired of our bad reputation. Every person is entitled to his/her own opinion, but I was asking my students to research Fleming, and some of them believed this one, one-star review. I am hoping no one else makes that same mistake. I am here to shed light on a different side of Fleming. Our principal and administration do everything that they can to ensure that Fleming students are respected, protected, and given a quality education. Sometimes it isn't easy when there are students and sometimes parents who don't share the same view of how students should behave while at school. Imagine how difficult it can be to raise one teenager, and multiply it by 150 to 180. That is roughly what each teacher is going through every single day. We do this because we love it, and we want to empower our students to become lifelong learners who can reach their full potential. To read such negative reviews online is disheartening. I have taught over 2,000 students at Fleming. There have been some tough years, but there have also been amazing groups of students. The bottom line is that if a student makes wise decisions, there are incredible opportunities at Fleming. My 8th graders who work hard in school also have the most fun. They get to participate in reward activities every 5 weeks, receive numerous awards, and they participate in many of our enrichment classes and clubs. Many of my former students have gone on to attend prestigious colleges: UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, M.I.T., UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, and more. Most of us know that people usually only go online to write a review of something when they are disgruntled.
