Fleur de Lis School provided our son and our family the most incredible experience we could have ever asked for. In our 2 years there, we watched our son grow immensely in his confidence, relationships, and overall love of learning. He was sad to leave school every day and excited to wake up and start the day with his amazing friends and teachers. The approach and philosophy that Fleur de Lis takes truly allows each child to blossom in their own unique and beautiful way and we not only got to experience this with our son, but saw it with his classmates as well. We saw our son make presentations to his class about a science or art project he did with us at home or proudly present his show and tell Spider-man toy to his classmates - we are so grateful to the entire Fleur de Lis community for encouraging this level of self-esteem and individuality.  The staff at Fleur de Lis is truly one of a kind -  the professional, yet individualized attention of Tina Smith and April Kozelh as directors is amazing. They know your child personally and do everything in their power to make your child's experience at Fleur de Lis enriching and creative. Our son still talks about Ms. Tina coming into their classroom and reading them special books (his favorite was about an owl in NYC) and Tina consistently shared specific memories of our son's social and emotional growth during his time there. The teachers we had at Fleur de Lis (Ms. Sandy, Ms. Chelsea, Ms. Amber, Ms. Kiara and Ms. Diana for Spanish) were incredible in every way - we appreciated the attention to the holistic needs of each child - the cognitive, physical, and emotional were all given attention and we saw our son blossom in each area. The day our son "graduated" Fleur de Lis School was a bittersweet one - we were thrilled to know he was ready for kindergarten, but also so sad to say goodbye to the daily moments of this special community. If you are a new parent, join the FDL wait list now -- trust me, your older parent self will thank you! It's hard to explain the magical and nurturing environment this school provides. I remember my son, Julian, sobbing when I left him on his first day as a two year old, and my heart was breaking. In less than a week, he was all smiles at drop off, excited to see his teachers and friends. Since then, he's thrived at this school, both emotionally and educationally. Now, two years later, he's heading to Francis Parker, and looking back on his time at FDL, I can't express how grateful I am to the amazing team there. There are a few specifics that make FDL special: The community -- everyone at FDL knows Julian's name, even teachers who aren't assigned to his class. Pre-Covid, when I would pick him up from his classroom, his daily departure was like a little parade, with waves and goodbyes to friends, teachers, directors, everyone. You really feel like part of a family here. Kira, Bev, April, Julie, Julia, Diana, Iris, Nina, Autumn, and many others...each has been a unique and positive impact on Julian and our family over the past two years. The safety -- speaking of Covid, I don't think I appreciated how nice it is to have total confidence in the efforts of the FDL team to keep my child safe at all costs until this pandemic. When they reopened under new safety guidelines, I never once worried they would slack or not keep the sanitation and safety bar high. In fact, Julian now inspects my hand washing and admonishes me if I have not made enough soap bubbles or washed long enough . They always ran a tight ship, but it's exceptional now. The positive reinforcement of high expectations -- on my visit prior to enrolling at FDL, I saw all the kids eating lunch as they chattered politely and consistently used manners. On the playground, no one pushed. They all took turns. What's more, they were still incredibly joyous little kids, giggling and delighting in silly play. I was in awe. And yet, now Julian models those same behaviors. FDL teachers are kind and warm, but firm. They set a high bar, and the kids rise to meet it. At the same time, there is tremendous fun had on the daily at this school. Julian greets me at pick up with a big smile and a hug, his cheeks flushed from play and sand in his shoes. He excitedly shows me his projects and tells me funny stories and things he learned from the day. FDL is exceptional. If you have the chance to send your child there, take it. You would be hard pressed to find a more loving and capable setting. We will miss it terribly! read more

This is a fantastic pre-school for your little one, one of the best in San Diego. Our child has attended FDL for the past two years and our experience has been incredibly positive. When we first arrived, our child was in the process of potty-training. The teachers encouraged us to talk with them about where she was in the process and that they would help us continue to train her. This is very important because schools will often times require that your child be potty-trained prior to admission. The teachers are sensitive, receptive to our child, and incredibly creative and talented in teaching age-appropriate cognitive, fine and gross motor skills, art, and music. The size of the class is small, allowing the teachers to give a lot of one-on-one attention to each child. There are 2 teachers per class with a lot of extra assistance by other staff members as well, including bi-lingual (English & Spanish) education, which is the best age to teach a foreign language. I highly recommend this school. It has been a foundation of San Diego pre-school education since 1929, earning them the reputation of being masters at their skill. read more

Our son attended a different daycare from the age of 6 months to 2 years old before attending Fleur De Lis and were hesitant about pulling him from an environment he was comfortable with and kids he was used to being around on a daily basis. Any concerns we had left immediately after watching our son's attitude, behavior as well as that of the staff. Looking back 1.5 years later let's just say he cried the first week when we dropped him off and now he cries when we pick him up (he doesn't want to leave). For those that don't know, FDL has a long history as one longest serving preschools in the area (since 1929) and what we've appreciated is how they've continued to advance their curriculum in advancing social, emotional and intellectual needs of every child. One of the more important aspects of any preschool are the teachers and staff. We've found them to be attentive, caring, intelligent, responsive, and professional. Simply put, they care about teaching and they deeply care about their kids (feedback to parents is constant and clearly observant). We are amazed at thing variety of things our son learns on a daily basis and through music, story-telling, dance, art, Spanish language class, palys, etc. We also appreciate the community that FDL builds among it's parents (Mother's Day appreciation events, after school events including parent classes, the parental involvement, etc.) We've had fantastic experience and I'd recommend FDL to any parent. read more

A wonderful, hidden little preschool that I absolutely felt comfortable and excited to send my 2 year old daughter to. My husband attended FDL a million years ago and when it came time to enroll our daughter, he couldn't have been more thrilled to have her go as well. He had spoken to me over the years about his great experience there and how he would often go back and visit in his high school years which I thought was adorable. The things we loved about FDL were the small class sizes and how the teachers never rotate and get to know each student so well. Each day we got tons of photos of our daughter and when we picked her up we got a personal update from the teacher about her day. They also were a huge proponent in potty training. They let us know when the time was right, and assured us in taking the leap, explaining that they were fine with accidents and helping us along the way. Having this sort of support and back up as first time parents was huge for us. We ended up moving after our first year here but continued to make the long drive for quite some time. Best advice would be to get on the waitlist before your little one is even here :) read more

After spending a year at FDL, I have 2 main take-aways: 1) The school is resting on its laurels and 2) they value form over substance. Your kid will be cared for in a safe environment and will likely learn some new skills, but this is not a joyful, playful, loving place (like you'd get with play-based learning). Nor is it peaceful, challenging, and fulfilling (like you'd get with Montessori). My impression is that the older classes are much better than the "early learners," and that the school's attention and resources are spent on the older kids. The younger classes are just day care centers, run by women who do not appear to enjoy (or even fully understand) what they're doing. The school has an amazing reputation and the program was probably great 30 years ago (under the former leadership), but there is nothing modern, innovative, or flexible about it. They expect compliance with arbitrary rules, and regularly express personal disappointment and frustration with kids for not listening/parroting back. For example, instilling proper table manners is a high priority, which would be fine if it was balanced with laughter and fun. But there is no sense of wonder or silliness - the things that pretty much define childhood. They use all the right language about "appreciating the uniqueness of each child," but they seem unable to veer from their established ways of doing things and their outdated and misguided priorities. Nearly every morning, I heard comments about how many boys there were playing in the car section or how nicely the girls were coloring. They kept trying to pair my kid up with other boys, explicitly because they were boys. I don't expect a preschool to be on the cutting edge on gender fluidity, but I would hope to see less emphasis on traditional boy vs. girl stuff. The toys they offer are also ancient, with peeling paint and dolls whose faces have been rubbed off after years of use. The school claims to be constantly disinfecting toys, but I found this school to be much "germier," and the kids more frequently sick, than other preschools I have been involved with. I spoke with several other families who shared similar concerns and had experienced uncomfortable exchanges as well. The reasons other parents gave for staying included that it wasn't great, but it's wasn't awful; it would be too much trouble to change mid-year; and these teachers are off-putting and uninspired, but the teachers for the older kids are great, so it's worth sticking it out through the bum year. It's a lovely and historic space and I truly hope, for the sake of the kids, that they take some time to deeply reevaluate their program. read more

Fleur De Lis is a magical wonderland. My two daughters are currently students at FDL and one of my happiest days was finding out my oldest got a spot in the Early Learners program. They both started in the EL class and my oldest, who we kept an extra year at FDL, rather than sending her to TK, is finishing up her last year. We've loved our entire FDL experience. The teachers and staff are like family. We love the play based learning and the huge outdoor play areas that encourage kids to explore. My kids have so much fun that they get upset when we pick them up early! FDL also creates a great community environment within the school and each classroom. I've been fortunate to be a room parent for both of my kids and there are many opportunities for parents to get involved in class (reading books, sharing family traditions and cultural holidays, class parties...). We've had fantastic teachers over the years. Ms. Autumn, Ms. Blanca and Ms. Sandra were perfect for the Early Learners class, so loving and nurturing with the 2 year olds. Ms. Kiara and Ms. Amber are great preschool teachers. In preschool, there are "jobs' assigned everyday and it's great to see the 3 year olds learning independence and responsibility through play. Ms. Tina, Ms. Sam, Ms. Sandy and Ms. Chelsea's Pre-K programs are fun and engaging - my oldest was reading by 4 years old. It's truly amazing. The playground has a nature lab, a garden, a "construction site," bicycle paths. The classrooms have a STEAM center, dramatic play, circle time. The kids that leave the Pre-K program are more than ready for Kindergarten...they could probably start first grade! Ms. Bev and Ms. Kira are so involved in the school's operations and truly care for each child and family. They are always open to questions and feedback and have been invaluable during this past pandemic year. While we are incredibly sad that Ms. Tina is leaving the Pre-K program, we know she will also be a great director. We love FDL and recommend the school to all parents. read more

Our son has been attending Fleur de Lis for two years. We love the community, the love and care the entire staff showers on the children and our son's development within the school. I was pregnant when well-meaning mothers began to grill me as to whether I was on the waiting list. Largely just to end these conversations I did sign up for the waiting list when I was about 6 months along. As soon as I toured the school with my son I understood why the waiting list was so important. The director, Ms. Bev was so charming and unpretentious when she interacted with my son. This has been mirrored in all of the fine men and women who work there. It is clear that they care for our children as they would their own. The campus is beautiful with plenty of room for outdoor play and very clean, sweet classrooms. As another reviewer mentioned, they have an ideal blend of play-based and traditional teaching with opportunities to learn about gardening, giving back to the community, art, other cultures as well as ABCs & 123s. We have formed close bonds with many of the parents and teachers and now I'm one of those well-meaning mothers driving other parents nuts by asking if they are on the wait list yet! read more

We couldn't be happier with Fleur de Lis School. Both of our children currently attend the school, and our oldest is graduating from the Pre-K program after spending three years here. The curriculum is fantastic and just structured enough to promote learning with play, fun, and creativity. All the teachers, administrators, and staff are so caring, knowledgeable, and organized - they are truly wonderful to work with. Each and every one of them go above and beyond to make sure the children are well cared for and happy. The school has a long history with many fun traditions that are really special. The school grounds are very nice and spacious. I like that each age group has their own classroom and large outdoor play area. Our daughter is more than prepared to move on to Kindergarten. We have many family members and friends who comment on how impressed they are by all the interesting things the kids learn about and their knowledge for their ages. Both of our children absolutely love going to school here. They actually get upset if I pick them up too early! Fleur De Lis has BEYOND exceeded our expectations at every turn. Our daughter is in her third year at FDL. We live in the North Park area, so it tends to be a longer drive (15 minutes) then a lot of other Mission Hills families. It would be worth an hour drive!!!! The amount of love they shower EACH child with is unparalleled. Ms. Autumn was so unbelievably nurturing with our shy 2 year old and in Pre-K, Ms. Tina and Ms. Sam offer a smaller class size with a curriculum that is both engaging and fun! My husband and I had different wants for our daughter for her pre-school years. My focus was a more play based program, and my husband wanted a more learning based program. I have to say FDL has the perfect balance of both! The amount of outdoor space is extensive for surrounding preschools in urban San Diego. Children need the freedom to explore outside just as much as the inside of a classroom, and the space FDL provides both indoors and outdoors is unmatched. Also, having a diverse menu for lunch each day, provided by the school, is great to create a more adventurous eater, as well as no meal prep at home! It is quite a cliche to say "it takes a village", but to create global minded citizens early, it takes a plethora of involved teachers, administrators, and parents, and at FDL you have just that. EACH teacher you meet, administrator, and parents cares not only about their own children, but about your child also. Whether it's a teacher in another class, or a parent in another class, everyone is there to help each child succeed and to be HAPPY. We love this school! One of best pieces of advice I received as an expecting parent was to sign up early at this preschool. This preschool has been running for almost 100 years, tucked away in quiet canyon in Hillcrest. The staff, teachers and administrators are all like family (and many of them are!). The staff works hard to create a warm, safe environment for the kids to interact, play and develop strong friendships. Fleur De Lis School is the BEST, here are just a few reasons why I am thankful my family found this amazing preschool: 1. Fleur De Lis staff and administration are dedicated, caring and professional. All of my interactions with staff have been extremely positive and my daughter is seriously excited to go to school every day. The small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios are two examples of the school's commitment to high quality early education. I also appreciate that Fleur de Lis has several teachers that have been with the school for over 20 years! 2. Fleur De Lis provides a safe learning environment. I am writing this review in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, where there is still a lot of uncertainty and fear. Fleur De Lis proactively worked with parents and trained staff to ensure the school environment was as safe as possible for children, families and staff. For example, in addition to intensive daily cleaning, the school also has a Clorox 360 service every two weeks. 3. Fleur De Lis has a phenomenal outdoor environment that students enjoy several times a day. The school has a different playground for each age group so that each space is developmentally appropriate. All the playgrounds are well shaded and according to my daughter - super fun. I could not be happier with Fleur De Lis and highly recommend you get on the waitlist as soon as possible. This is a wonderful school, offering a caring, nurturing environment for early learning. We are grateful that our eldest son (Jonas) attended from age 2.5-5 and loved each year and class. He is vegetarian and we were easily able to bring food substitutes each week to be prepared with his lunch/snacks. The field trips, daily Spanish, songs, focus on manners, outdoor play combined with rich learning classrooms provide so much for learning and growth. Ms. Bev and Ms. Kira brought so many positive changes while maintaining high standards of care. Jonas has many happy memories of this school. He's now entering 5th grade as a GATE student in a STEAM school and we are thankful he had such a strong academic and emotional foundation that has stayed with him. All of my children attended Fleur De Lis and I remain a huge fan. I must confess that I am not much of a cheerleader for many businesses and tend to post more dissatisfaction than satisfaction. Fleu De Lis is an exception in every way. I immediately loved the organic feel of the school. It looks like a genuine home- with trees and grass and small cottages, as opposed to an industrial building. They have Spanish daily and an excellent balance of play and structured learning. The teachers, especially Ms Holly (my kid fav) are exceptional. Patient and loving and monumentally creative. I live for the cute Mother's Day gifts they bring home! They have an impresive weekly learning unit and are also very good at teaching the basic core character values. Oh- and did I mention potty training??? Somehow their group training concept is so much more effective than the one-on-one method. They were quickly successful with both of my kids! So helpful! Margaret, the head of school, has been there for an eternity and is a virtual Margaret Thatcher in leadership, knowledge and strength but with a bit more personality! She is an inspiration to everyone around her. Our eldest daughter went on to Franisis Parker, and I must say the first year was a waste of money. For one of the most academically prestigious schools in the area, my daughter learned more at Fleur De Lis the year prior and was bored and unchallenged at Parker. The program at FDS is unmatched by any other in the area. My eldest daughter who is now 10, made friendships that have lasted with her for a decade now and still finds exceptional joy visiting FDS. read more

We are so sad our time here is coming to an end. Fleur De Lis has helped us so much with preparing our daughter to go to Kindergarten. She is confident and is already learning to read. The teachers are incredible and they offer an amazing art class once a week. Another great perk is they take care of all the lunches and snacks! Fantastic experience through the toughest of times! Moved to the San Diego area mid-Covid and was in need of a pre-K for my almost 4yo. Did extensive research on pre-K programs and spoke to many directors, but was most impressed with Fleur De Lis. Kira was engaging and extremely honest and cared deeply about providing a safe environment with maximum health protocols while also focusing on educating and socializing kids. My son has been attending for nearly a year and has thrived with Ms. Tina and Ms. Heidi as he prepares for kindergarten. We have been impressed with the honest and instant communication regarding Covid, with the daily updates/pics/videos via the Bloomz app, and with the expansive outdoor exploration area where the kids learn about the world around them. The staff is experienced and wonderful and welcoming to all. Monthly at-home STEAM projects, weekly themes, tons of variety, lots of prep for kindergarten. My son will be a very young kindergartener this fall but we are confident he is ready, thanks in large part to Fleur De Lis. We were so lucky to find this place! read more

We could not LOVE Fleur de Lis more. Choosing a preschool for our first (and only) child was a really big decision for us as we wanted her first experience with school to be really positive. Our daughter started FDL at 2 years and 2 months old in Ms Autumn and Ms Blanca's class. They were the perfect first teachers for our daughter as they are both so loving and nurturing. And so patient and understanding with us, as parents. Our daughter is now in Ms Amber and Ms Kiara's class and it's amazing to see how much she has learned so far this year. They put so much thought into the lessons and make it really fun for the kids to learn. We are very excited to be going into Ms Tina's Pre-K class next year as I hear nothing but wonderful things about the Pre-K program in both Ms Tina and Ms Kathy's class. And then there's Ms Bev and Ms Kira, the director and assistant director of the school... where do I begin? They are the oil of this very tightly run ship. They are both SO involved in the daily workings of the school. Ms Bev has been such a valuable resource for us, personally, and has spent time on numerous occasions guiding us through decisions regarding our daughters best interests Her knowledge and wisdom are invaluable to us. Ms Kira is so kind and has always been that person that takes our calls, answers our emails and has a smile on her face every time we see her. She makes us feel like we are at home. Ms Bev and Ms Kira are both very professional and also very approachable and easy to build relationships with - which is so important to us. Some of our favorite things about Fleur de Lis are: 1) How safe it is! It is completely fenced in with the only access through locked gates that current parents have the code to. We toured 6 other preschools and none of them felt secure enough for our comfort level. 2) Daily Spanish class with Ms Nina - love it. 3) The organization and structure. We really like the balance between the kids learning through play but also having structure and a curriculum that sets them up for success for entering kindergarten. 4) Weekly Art classes with Ms Autumn. Our daughter LOVES Ms Autumn and is loving art. 5) We feel like the friendships that our daughter has made with the other kids and the friendships we have made with the other parents will last a lifetime. 6) The teachers are very accessible and open to communication. This was a HUGE concern of mine when choosing a preschool. I knew I wanted to be very involved as a parent and was concerned that it may not be welcomed. But it's been great. 7) Parent/Teacher conferences. How cute! It's amazing the amount of time and effort the teachers put into them. It's been helpful to sit down with the teachers once a year and hear what they have to say about where our daughter is at and what things we can work on with her. All in all it's been a FABULOUS experience thus far. I can't imagine our daughter being anywhere else for preschool. read more

It takes a village....and this is the village you want for your kids!! My son started here in the 2 year old class, he is now getting ready to enter PRE-K 2! All I can say is that Fleur De Lis has set expectations for what education should be like, far beyond what we were expecting. I'll never forget visiting the campus and seeing so many happy kids and they were all following directions, even the 2 years olds. The structured schedule has help mold my child into an active member of life/society and it is thanks to the great staff at Fleur De lis. All of the teachers are active in the growth of your child, when they have a rough day or are trying to master a skill, the teachers help with encouragement, patience and consistency. You don't really realize what a great educational environment it is, until you place them around other children (the same age or even a little older) and your child is communicating, sharing, and engaging in all conversations regardless of the topic. As any parent can attest, you always want the best for your child/children. This sentiment rang true when we needed to find a preschool for our daughter to attend bc my husband and I both worked. We did our research, toured three of what we thought to be the top preschools (based upon reviews and one-on-one parent feedback) and Fleur De Lis kept coming up at the top of our list. The people were inviting, the environment seemed warm and cozy just like a home, and the history of the school was charming. After touring and watching each of the three schools teaching styles and environments we decided Fleur would be the best fit for us. Our eldest daughter started at FDL when she was 2 years old and has advanced through their program for nearly 3 years at this point and we have seen her learn and develop in leaps and bounds. The teachers at FDL become second parents that love and nurture your kids through the good days and maybe not so great "hard to say goodbye" days. It resolidified our decision when our daughter would come home and tell us all about how much she loved her teachers and classmates, what a fun day of school she had, and share what she learned that day. Perhaps most importantly, the teachers teach and practice patience, love, and kindness while executing a transparent curriculum of different topics each week or month. We now have two children attending FDL and each day we say hello to our family at FDL and with a warm smile they say hello back, it truly is a community unlike most others. I highly recommend this school to parents and I also highly recommend you do your own research and visit the preschools that are out there so you can stay informed of your options and make decisions based off your first hand observations/experiences. I just can't say enough good things about Fleur De Lis. My daughter started there when she was 3 and we had come from a not so great daycare situation. She came into the school with a lack of confidence and quite a bit shy. Just a few weeks in Ms. April and Ms. Adriana's class and we already saw a change in her. She made fast friends and in the loving and warm environment she flourished. Her confidence was building and she truly loved going to school every day. The next year she moved into Ms. Kathy and Ms. Iris' pre-k class. Ms. Kathy is truly a wonderful teacher. She makes sure that each and every one of her students are more than prepared to enter kindergarten. She gives the children the opportunity to explore and problem solve for themselves to build confidence. She gave us great advice and I am very grateful she was my daughter's pre-k teacher as I am very confident that she has a fantastic foundation to begin her educational journey. Ms. Iris is so calm and patient. Her demeanor really helped my daughter come out of her shell even more. Ms. Bev and Ms Kira, who are the directors of the school, are very involved and always there to talk. They run a tight ship and you can tell they love what they do and truly care about the children. Ms Autumn is the art teacher and she is AMAZING! My daughter loved going to art class and we have fantastic art done by my daughter that we will treasure forever. I never ever worried about my daughter while she was at school. I knew she was more than well taken care of and was having a fabulous time. She would come home and tell us if all the great things they did. My daughter has made such wonderful friends there and the families are all so close. I know that we will always have a bond with them and will be friends for a very long time. We sadly are moving on to elementary school but I am so grateful for our time at Fleur De Lis. We love Fleur De Lis School. We have three daughters and two of the three have attended FDL. The third starts next fall. The teachers and administration at FDL are all wonderful role models for our kids and they are all compassionate and caring. Fleur De Lis is a wonderful school and we are so blessed to be able to send our kids there. We've had amazing experiences in the early learners program, preschool, and Pre-K for our two children. All of the teachers have been amazing and our children are welcomed daily with the most positive acceptance from the teachers, admin, and support staff. Pre-K definitely prepared our son for kindergarten and I feel gave him the extra confidence to start elementary school with no hesitation. He excelled right away at kindergarten thanks to the necessary skills he learned while at Fleur De Lis. We currently have two sons (2 and 4) attending Fleur De Lis (FDL) preschool. Our oldest just completed his second year and our youngest started two months ago. Our children have flourished in the FDL community, and we are thrilled to be a part of it! The administrators, teachers and staff all adhere to the same valued principles (no doubt led by Ms. Beverly, the school's Director, who has 40 years of experience) that have earned FDL's stellar reputation and led to its success for almost 90 years. FDL runs day to day operations seamlessly. From morning drop off, through the countless transitions throughout the day, the students, teachers and staff maintain a well-organized schedule and system. The same disciplined approached is applied to their curriculum, with lesson plans, activities, and volunteer opportunities being well thought out, planned in advance and executed with experience. At a closer level, the one on one interactions between your child and the teachers, make your heart melt and fill you with gratitude. Where do i begin? We have sent our two boys to FDL since 2013 and now our youngest is going to wrap up his last week there before he starts kindergarten. I have to tell you, we live in carmel valley and have made the drive down for the last 6 years(yes difficult at times) but let me tell you it was well worth it! from all the teachers and staff they are so pleasant and professional and really take care of the students like there own. I am happy and sad as i write this review, happy not to make the drive down and then turn right around and drive back to sorrento valley but so sad because FDL is part of our family now and we will not get to see them everyday but our boys are prepared for the next chapter in there life. Ms Bev, Ms Kathy, Ms Sandy, Ms.Kiara, Ms April , Ms Nina, Ms Janet, Ms Alesandra and of course Ms Autumn the best art teacher ever. I know this maybe a long review for you to read but i need express my emotions to tell you Ms Kathy prepared my boys for kindergarten better then i could of ever asked for. She is great with the kids, they all love her and respect her so much. Ms Kathy really truly takes care of the children for preK just like her own children. She has them able to stand in line arms at there sides and listening for there next order of business. How many 4& 5 yr olds do you know that listen and pay attention after only being asked once I do wanna say that everyone at FDL really and truly treat all the children like there own. This school is priceless and I am grateful for all they have done for my boys. I can keep going for hours about this school but i am sure I have lost most readers. Our daughter currently attends FDL and we love the structure and attention the teachers and staff give to her and all of the students. The days are filled with creative activities for the kids and everyday I am amazed at what she comes home learning. They also create a nice balance for the parents to volunteer and be active participants during the year in the classrooms. Our son has gone to Fleur De Lis for 3 years. I can't say enough good things about this school. We are gay parents and our son is multi racial. The teachers and the administration are exceptional. The pre-K class is nothing short of a miracle. My son can read and he hasn't even started kindergarten. Ms Kathy, one of the pre-K teachers, is an expert at her job. She runs a tight ship and her kids respond. They are well behaved and love her. One day I got a call that my son had a fever and as I walked into the classroom, Ms Kathy was sitting besides my son rubbing his head. They not only teach the children, they love them. read more

I currently have two children at FDL; they have extremely different backgrounds and learning capabilities yet both are thriving at this school. My oldest started at FDL when she was two, twice a week. I was immediately impressed with how the school helped develop her social skills as well as the quality of the projects and work she'd bring home. The teacher, Ms Terri, clearly loves her job and the children; my daughter still lights up when she sees her on campus. Currently my daughter is in the Pre-K class full-time with Ms. Tina and I am very pleased with the wide variety of topics discussed, the level of education she's receiving, and the social lessons she's learning. Ms. Tina puts an unbelievable amount of effort into the curriculum and into making the day fun and full of energy. She gives the children a lot of freedom to make independent choices while providing guidance with care and respect. My other daughter was recently adopted from an Eastern European orphanage. Clearly, her skill set, knowledge base, and language abilities are very different from those of her peers at FDL yet Ms. Amber, her teacher in the three-year old class, has risen to the challenge. Ms. Amber has helped her learn the language, develop social etiquette, and build self-confidence. I would also be remiss if I did not mention that the directors, Ms. Bev and Ms. Kira, were incredibly patient and gracious with us as we were going through the adoption process-- they kindly held a spot open for us even though we weren't sure when our daughter would arrive in the US and have worked with us and the school board to ensure her education is on track, both now and in the future. My husband and I are forever grateful to them for their hard work in that regard. We could not be more pleased with both of our experiences at FDL. The administration is accommodating; the teachers are top-notch, experienced professionals; the learning experience is superb and fosters creative, thoughtful, well-informed children; the facility is beautiful and safe-- what more could you ask for? My girls look forward to school days and, as a working mom, that is a great feeling. I would without hesitation recommend FDL to anyone lucky enough to live in the area. read more

Our son has attended Fleur de Lis Preschool for 3 years now. As gay parents, we were very cautious as to where our child would begin his academic path. Owners, Ms. Margaret and Ms. Bev, and all the teachers at Fleur de Lis have been absolutely wonderful! They offer an enriched program developed to empower children to discover themselves and learn. They also provide a daily Spanish course, and Ms. Nina is terrific! We have NEVER felt like the staff at Fleur de Lis has treated us or our son different than any other family. In fact, just the opposite. Our son has grown to be a very well-adapted child - confident with peers and eager to learn. We owe it all to Fleur de Lis! Zach progressed from the toddler class to the Pre-K class in one year. He is starting Kindergarten this fall and already loves reading. Teachers are kind and smart, staff is very responsible with everything, the place is pretty and they are always updating areas for safety and comfort, they keep a good communication with patents, teachers and kids, it is a place that I highly recommend, they also have Spanish and art classes that are incredible!. My husband and I have been very happy with our decision to send our daughter here. They are always creating new activities with a perfect mix of structure, routine and play. My daughter seems to love going to school and she is very proud to show me all of her art projects. The entire staff is very dedicated to the well being of my child and they let us know if anything happens throughout the day, to a fall on the playground, to a funny story of what she did. I love that this school has an original feel to it, being that it is different homes on a canyon with different levels for the different ages of children. It has a magical and calm feeling in all the outdoor space. I think I would like to have gone here if I was a child! Be prepared though, my daughter comes home very dirty (art and sand) from playing outside.... but that is the whole point of childhood right? When else can you just have fun and get messy! read more

We have been a part of the Fleur De Lis community for almost a year. Our son started in the Early Learners Class and is currently in Pre-School. He has flourished socially and intellectually. One of our biggest concerns about sending him to "school" at the age of 2 every day was that it would be too structured and not enough free play. That was not the case. Not only do they have outdoor play 2-3 times a day, they also have indoor play incorporated in the classroom setting. He has thrived in many of the necessary social skills of listening, sharing, and following directions, but also cognitively (shapes, letters, calendar days, colors, etc.). Our son enjoys going to school every day and is always happy when we pick him up. A huge thank you to the staff and teachers....you have and will continue to impact our son in a VERY positive way. read more

Fleur De Lis (FDL) is such a wonderful school and our daughter really loves it! She is excited to go to school, loves all of the art projects, playing outside, and learning from all of the activities that the teachers do with the children. We're truly impressed with how our daughter's social skills have grown since she's been attending FDL. Ms. Kira and Ms. Bev (the Administrators) are actively involved, spending time with both the teachers and children every day. And you know what they say about a school, the success of the school starts with the involvement of the Administration. The Teachers are wonderful and truly care about each child. FDL is not just a school, but a safe and caring community where children are loved and cared for, and parents are encouraged to get involved and get to know one another. Fleur De Lis is an absolutely fabulous preschool. We currently have twin daughters who have attended Fleur De Lis since they were 2 years old. They are getting ready to begin their Pre-K year and will be graduating in 2019. The school is very unassuming, which we love. But don't let that fool you! It is an excellent school where the kids get a great deal of personalized attention, seamless integration of learning with fun projects and games and an emphasis on emotional and social development. Our girls have flourished since attending Fleur De Lis. The administrators (Miss Beverly and Miss Kira) are open and accommodating to the students' needs. They are accessible and very caring and give a great deal of attention to parents and their concerns or questions. The teachers are top notch as well. We have been constantly impressed with the caliber of instruction, with the projects that come home with the girls and pride they feel at their own accomplishments while at school. Additionally the school offers daily Spanish lessons to all of the students and incredible art instruction. The school curriculum also includes plenty of play time, allowing the kids to be kids, while incorporating lessons on how to treat one another and solidify friendships. We could not be happier with Fleur De Lis and what they have done for our girls. We highly recommend this school to anyone and everyone! read more

Our daughter has attended Fleur De Lis School since she was 2 years old and now she is 5. As an only child, we initially enrolled her for just 2 days a week for the social interaction with other kids. However, right from the start she received age-appropriate development and education and even special direction where she needed it. My daughter was one of the shyest kids in her class and over time we began to see her form meaningful friendships, stand up and talk in front of her entire class and take initiative in a way we had not seen before. Seeing her thrive in this fun, stimulating, nurturing environment, we have increased the number of days per week, adding another each year. To be honest, FDL is more than just a preschool, it's a supportive community. As parents, we have met so many other families that we've formed friendships with and spend time with outside of school events. The school directors, teachers and other staff are very understanding, loving and continually strive to learn more in order to offer more to their students. Last week, I attended a workshop for parents where I learned several new skills for better communication with my daughter. As kids graduate from FDL and move on to Kindergarten, many parents talk about how sad they are to see the Fleur De Lis chapter come to a close. I know I will feel that way too when the day comes. At the same time I will feel assured that my daughter has the self-confidence, skills and abilities to enter Kindergarten thanks to our wonderful friends at Flear De Lis. read more

Goodness.. I haven't written a review in ages... But, after reading the review left by someone about my daughter's school - I had to do something. My daughter has been going to Fleur De Lis for a little over two years now and we adore the place and it's teachers. Her days are filled with learning, playing, and a great deal of love and attention. She gets two healthy snacks and a hot lunch each day - and I'm even able to check the week's menu by looking online. They listen to me as a parent when I have questions - and I can call the school at any time just to see how she's doing. You can see the respect the administrators have for the teachers and in turn, you can see how much love the teachers have for the kids. I'm heartened by the way each kid is treated like an individual - fairly and in a positive fashion. It's a diverse group of kids and an even more diverse group of parents. We have made friends with parents with different backgrounds, sexual orientation and economic situation. It's a wonderful place to send your child. We feel safe there... and we are excited that our youngest will get to experience Fleur De Lis in a year as well. read more

The Fleur de Lis staff, part. Ms Kathy, were the first to recognize and recommend help for our Asperger/ADHD son. Ms. Kathy's advice and encouragement has stayed with us through the years and we think of her often, with gratitude and humility. She helped us pick the right schools and look for the right teachers. Her "your child's successes will look different from other kids' successes' has stayed with me through the years. ' iMy son is now 20 and at the University of San Diego. His 'little' brother, also a FDL graduate, is about to graduate from high school. My kids had a blast at FDL. We loved the buildings, the play time, and most of all, the teachers. read more

There is no better peace of mind as parents than knowing our child is well-taken care of, being loved and nurtured, and learning daily. FDL has provided a top-notch, quality preschool experience. We are thankful to be able to attend. Many of the staff members have worked there for several years. To us, that is a big plus-- the staff are all like one big family.
