I could not tell if the banana was actually in the meringue or the chocolate tart itself. Regardless, it was very good and an ideal treat. Discovered this place walking to a local coffee shop in Chatham. Wasn't going to get anything but the coffee shop praised their ham & cheese croissants. Decided to try them out. Came for that croissant but it must be a lunch item, so I just got a cheese croissant. It was light, airy, and decadent. It was not cheese filled but I believe it was in the dough. You could tell it was freshly made and not chain like. It came on a brown/compostable paper plate. The service was unrushed and friendly. They are French. The croissant was a bit pricey at $4.50 but it goes with the ambiance. I will be back to try the ham and cheese croissant but don't see myself coming here regularly. read more

Came for some GF birthday cake on a Friday morning, but was told that Saturdays are the GF days. So, got some Macarons and coffee instead. I have friends in Chatham who really know food. They sent me here because they know I love good eats! I popped in last Friday (in Lent) and was awed by the aroma and visual temptations in their cases. My wife is a fan of "good" chocolate croissants but, with a few exceptions, most of the ones readily available at the local food stores and some bakeries were short on the chocolate and long on the bread - not her favorite. I'm a huge fan of almond croissants so I scanned the cases for theirs and found both. They came home with me. I saw a mushroom quiche and since it was Lent, I ordered two. Finally, I saw a chocolate tart that had to come home too. The verdict: The Chocolate croissant got a thumbs up from my wife. She said there was a bite of chocolate in every munch. A winner. The Almond Croissant was excellent. On par with the best I have had (Tartine in Greenwich Village is great too). The quiche was very good and just enough for lunch. Finally, the chocolate tart was, as they say on Long Island, "ta die for"... Will go back just for another. This is a great local find and one you need to visit - and visit hungry! read more

This is traditional french pastries, prepared what seems like daily, reasonably priced, and delish. I bought 2 eclairs, one chocolate croissant, and one Baguette for $17.25. My kids raved about the eclairs and they were dispatched very quickly and eagerily. I had the chocolate croissant and it was definitely one of the best that i have had outside of Europe (even better than most places in NYC). The Baguette also was amazing. Today I went in to pick up a Three Chocolate Mousse cake for Mother's Day. To say it was sublime is a major understatement. Rich and light at the same time, and sweet without going overboard. As I said earlier, everything Fleur de Sel makes is excellent, but some standouts are their chocolate chip cookies, macarons (especially lavender), eclairs, sable cookies, and croissants. I have always wanted to try an authentic French spot and I feel I have found it. Sure I have had French pastries but nothing to date has compared to Fleur de Sel. Brand spanking new spot in downtown Chatham. They opened during the whole craziness going on and were an immediate hit! I waited a bit for the lines to die down prior to venturing here. Glad I did. Inside there are tables set up which cannot be used and the selection, although not extensive, is delectable. I couldn't just choose one so I decided on 5 to split with family. They're popular chocolate tart, which was good, wasn't the best of the bunch. They had a chocolate banana tart which was outstanding. Another (saint honore) was this mountain of cream with mini cream puffs (with caramel) you can pluck them out with a cookie on the bottom (keep in mind everything is mini so I am exaggerating). That my friends was the best. We also had a lemon meringue mini pie which was not too tart or sweet. Amazing. Last we had a Mille Feuille - which was sort of an Italian Neapolitan with chocolate and vanilla inside. Difficult to eat as the crust was super hard. My apologies if I misspelled any pastries. Besides it being delicious their prices are on the higher side. $26 for the 5 of them. I wouldn't let that stop you! They also have freshly brewed coffees and croissants and other breakfast breads. Wow, that was exactly what I wanted! I recently started working nearby and I love local food. First, upon walking in, I knew this place was the real deal. Everything looked so artistic and beautiful I had to ask for a tour of the delicacies. The woman behind the counter was kind enough to walk me through their entire selection and at no point did I feel like I was bothering her. I opted for the Chocolate Ganache Tart (as a true chocolate lover) and it was delicious. Not overly sweet, in no way overpowering...just solid. Overall, this place is excellent. I usually work there for most of the day, 2-3 days a week, when working from home. Their food is homemade, so they can run out of things towards the end of the day, but they tend to always have baguettes, croissants, macrons, and a variety of cakes throughout. They also have amazing sandwiches and salads. The service is excellent. I noticed older reviews noted that the staff is unfriendly and one person said they struggled entering the store with a stroller, while employees stood behind the counter. The owner must have seen this, because anytime someone comes in with a stroller, an employee will run out from behind the counter and get the door for them. They are also just really nice when taking your order and talk to people when waiting for an order, or ask how the food is. They also make sure everything is clean and will reset tables after someone leaves. The owner is extremely nice and friendly. I can't recommend this place enough. There are tons of coffee shops in this area, but this one is truly different and worth trying. read more
