The decor has been refreshed and now sports a more modern and friendly feel. The staff are friendly and helpful. In fact, I was remembered from a previous visit. It's always nice to feel as if you're part of the family. The restaurant serves steakhouse/American style food. On my visit I had a starter of beef ribs. They were fall off the bone tender and absolutely delicious. My main was a slow cooked beef scotch. The steak was a little over cooked for my tastes, but it was tender enough to be eaten. The flavour though! The char and savoury deliciousness that is beef shone through to excess. Any disappointment in the doneness of my steak was washed away by the taste. Even the fat was awesomely tender and flavour full. Over all the experience was very good. The meal wasn't cheap, but it was highly enjoyable in the re-vamped John Pirie dining room. --------------------- UPDATE --------------------- I went back again and had the steak. Okay, it is located on the main road, and it does have some class about it, despite it being a pub in Port Pirie. One of the things that I did like about this pub was that they had some nice beers on tap, something that I found rather surprising in a somewhat working class part of the state. It also had an outdoor area, but I probably wouldn't call it a beer garden since it was mainly for the smokers.

A terrific country pub, warm and inviting, with a great menu. I enjoyed my generous feed of Lightly-crumbed, Spencer Gulf Whiting immensely. Really great value too. I wished I'd eaten there on every night of our week in town. I commend this hotel to anyone passing through, or staying for a night or longer. You will not be disappointed. I will come back!

Actually, it doesn't look too flash on the outside, but inside it is actually rather charming, especially some of the stained glass windows. They also have an outdoor dining area in the parking spaces, which is also pretty cool, though it doesn't quite have the charm of some places I've been to.

Firstly, I need to clarify this 4 star review constitutes 4 stars within context. It's not 4 stars…read morefor accommodation overall, it's within the cabin/caravan park environment! So, don't compare it to a spa resort or a funky inner city apartment. It's a cabin park full of cabins... Having said that, I was really impressed with it in many ways. Here is my list of great things: - easy to find. - friendly and helpful on phone when booking (even when I changed it from 3 nights, 3 bed cabin, to just 2 nights and one bed and only a couple of weeks before booking - very accommodating). - extremely welcoming and helpful at reception. - made it clear to me that there was a man available 24/7 if i needed anything (anything?!). Considering my possibly unfounded, generalised opinion of Port Pirie and of staying there on my own, I found this rather reassuring. - cabins spacious and very clean and neat. - on main road in town. Easy to get to everywhere. - enough room to put my mountain bike inside! - loads of cabins so it's perfect for large groups to stay together. A couple of downsides: - all the cabins looked the same. There were big numbers on the side for identification though, but aesthetically it didn't make for a pretty setting. - no trees or plants at all so the park was very plain looking and austere. - the cabin park roads and paths comprised stones - not easy on my high heels. All in all a very pleasant stay!
