I went in to watch a football game as they were the nearest bar with the Sunday Ticket. There were about 10 people in the bar, I sat down at the bar and waited 10 minutes before anyone helped me....and there were two bartenders. The service was horrendous and the wings were not much bigger than french fries. I stayed for the whole game (ands I said they were the nearest bar showing the game). The bartenders were visibly hungover and stated multiple times they didn't want to be there. I paid my tab and left a note on the receipt about how bad the service was, being a former bartender myself. Turns out, the charged me twice the amount and I've had to dispute with the bank because the management are no help. The place seems like it could be so much more with better management and employees. I would haven given it a 1/2 star but the pool inside the bar was a postive. read more

The fish tacos were great! The only problem is that they had only one person to wait on everyone and that is why I gave this place only 4 stars. I haven't read the other reviews to understand why they thought this place deserved 3 1/2 stars... What I do know is that the drinks are cheap and the food is cheap and it's very very good. We stayed in Galveston for a week and came here twice (a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon). The place wasn't too busy and the waitstaff were very friendly. There were a couple of rowdy people here but you should 10000% expect there to be drunk people here all day long because it is advertised as a party place for young adults. If you don't mind a loud atmosphere full of tourists you will have a wonderful time. If you're old and miserable and hate young people or hate when people have fun, then stay far away from here. read more

The service was great when we ordered the beer..fast and friendly..but our waitress was too involved with the other customers to come back for our food order...took about 35 minutes just to get our orders in. The two girls working the bar tonight (6/9/18) were awful! We sat there for 10mins, while they both knew we were sitting there. Served everyone to the left and right of us. Being in the bar industry for over 10 years, I wouldn't let my bartenders treat anyone like that. I went out to Float for their .50 beers on a Wednsday I think, and it was definately an interesting scene. I liked the location of the bar a lot--it was right near the ocean, so they could open the windows and let in the nice sea breeze. It was also great that they had a pool on one half of the bar--very cool, very innovative, and although it was a little cold for people to be swimming when I was there, I heard stories from my friends, who are locals, about the pool being FULL of people on warmer nights. Which I could imagine could either be really fun or REALLY dangerous seeing as how drunk some of the people there got and how all of the crowd there, by the end of the night, could barely say a sentence without slurring something. If I were this bar, I'd make drunk swimmers sign waivers before taking a dip, but I didn't see any around so I guess the place hasn't had a fatality yet, which is good. There is a jukebox in the corner by the bathrooms, and although the place is pretty small and gets pretty busy, there always seems to be enough room to slide through the throngs of humans to get over to it. Mostly, people play top 40 songs, which is pretty common anywhere in the midwest, and since this place doesn't have much artistic cred (it's a typical middle of America bar), it's really not expected to be playing much else. The crowd here seemed to be mainly comprised of students on the island attending Texas A&M Galveston, which was to be expected since the .50 cent beers were a college promotion. But I have a feeling the place has that crowd regardless, and everyone there seemed to be young and a typical representation of the college crowd. The bartenders and staff were nice enough, if not at little overworked, and although they tried their best to serve everyone in a timely manner, I did end up waiting a fair amount of time before I got my drinks. It's ok though because the bartenders looked like college students too and probably hadn't been bartending for very long at at least still served me my beverages with a smile. Apart from some drunk, high kid who puked all over everyone, I had a good time and enjoyed hanging out with some very drunk college kids at a nice bar by the beach. Horrible service every time I come here! My friends and I came in on a Tuesday afternoon, maybe 10 people were there and and the waitress was practically ignoring us. She spent the 98% of the whole 20 minutes we were there, talking to her two male friends sitting at the bar. The margarita was gross, I honestly don't know how you can screw up a margarita. Never coming here again. I asked for a shot, and a margarita, she never brought me the shot. I didn't even finish my $5 margarita, nor did my friend. One of the other, older ladies (maybe the supervisor or manager) working there came to us right before we got up to leave and asked how everything was and my friend, being a passive person, said "good" and I just had shot him a look and decided to speak up for the group. I said "no don't lie to her...this margarita is disgusting, I can't even finish it" and she just looked at the cup...didn't say ANYTHING, not even so much as a "sorry". I wasn't expecting a free drink or anything, I was already standing up with my purse on my shoulder. I have NEVER had a good experience at this place. I decided to write a review right after this particular visit, because it rubbed me the wrong way. If you can't manage to make a decent margarita, the least you could do is work on your customer service. Love the location and the atmosphere, but the service ruins this place. It takes a lot for me to complain about anything, but The Float has done it. We left this place and went to the gay bar (stargazers?) down the road, it was dead, but the bartender was a SWEET HEART, and the drinks were so damn cheap...and even DRINKABLE! go figure. read more

I am not really sure what to do regarding the stars.If it was only for the food, it would be 5. The little chef in the kitchen really knows her stuff. I admit, the food is really good, with some of the BEST fish tacos in town and a nice menu variety. Super fresh and super affordable. Food comes out pretty quick. The problem is the bar service. Talk about slow. All the girls do is chit chat and there are times you will get your drink AFTER you have finished your food. I have been very lucky with the wait staff with exception of one James Spader look-alike. After spending quite a tab on food ( alcohol was not consumed that day) our group headed our way out the door to leave.Told that my friend could not take her full smoothie off the premises ( which is understandable due to all the drinkers that hang out there), we were forced to have to stand outside in the sun while she finished her smoothie. Waiting in the full sun, we asked " the James Spader look alike" for a glass of water. 15 minutes later we still were not served. When my friend went in to ask herself for water, she was told by snotty James that she could not order because he already put a order in!.....For WATER! We then were informed ( by "James") that he could not get us any water until he serviced all the clients who ordered alcohol first! THAT WAS ALMOST EVERYONE THERE! At that point, he gave us attitude and we left. My advise? Do not go unless you are planning on drinking because obviously you will get no water. And James? Take some customer service classes. My wife and I with our 2 kids stayed on the island last week and just happened to try this place out after a long day at Schlitterbahn waterpark. Float is a small cozy bar with a pool right on Seawall Blvd with big windows that open up to the gulf and let the salty sea breezes in. We got a table by one of these windows and enjoyed the view of the beach. We made it in about 5PM which was still happy hour and were able to get a $8 pitcher of DosEquis. We started off with chips and queso then ordered fish tacos (of which their are choices of toppings - I got the verde), fried grouper sandwich with waffle fries, and quesidillas. The food was AMAZING. The grouper sandwich was big enough to split between two people! We stayed entertained with the unlimited choices of music on the internet jukebox (50 cents a play). The help seem a bit sluggish but are nice enough when you get their attention. It is not enough of a detriment to pass up the best food I had on the island. The food comes out fast and hot. We liked it enough to eat there twice during our week there. Don't pass it up! read more

Stopped by tonight because it was close to our hotel and we were looking for Mexican food. Waitress was nice, telling us about where she is from and what not. Food was ok, too many beans in my burrito but that os just a personal preference. Drinks were cheaper which is always a plus! Biggest down falls for us was the locals and how they were a bit out of control. All that we could think was wow...I would never bring a child here because there were some very sexual things happening children should not see. Also music was super super loud for being 7pm, could barely have a conversation with each other. Overall probably wouldn't come back here as it may be a bit too wild for us, maybe if we were 21 and wanting to get really drunk. read more

The Float is our go to place the day before a cruise.Been there five times and the staff is always friendly and are excited for our vacation...you know..they have to stay there and work, so when they really make you feel welcome this is really the place you want to be.. Tried the Spot once..mid-afternoon on a Saturday, tried upstairs, downstairs to get a drink...couldn't get one...said screw it and went home to the Spot.
