    Flor dos Congregados in Porto

One of the stops of our Porto Food tour, Flor dos Congregados is a little hard to find but worth it. It's off the usual tourist path but that makes it extra awesome when you're here. Our stop was at lunch time and we had a reserved table. For later times, you will definitely want to make a reservation. Slow food is the concept here with 150 years of history. As well, a piano is ready to go and what's interesting is that it's here for the diners. The staff don't play. For our food tour, we had an interesting sandwich. I wish I'd thought to get a picture of it in profile because it was actually three layers but with the two cuts from opposite sides and each stuffed with a different ingredient. An iberico ham in one and a slow roasted pork loin in the other. Completely delicious and very interesting. We had a red brut wine with it. Yep, a bubbly red which is something I've never had before but will definitely be seeking out again. I would recommend this wine and the restaurant completely. [Review 9892 overall, 1470 of 2018.]

My friend and I were visiting Porto for the weekend. When searching for the places to eat, this particular place was on many 'best of' lists. We got there at 11:30 and were told to come back at noon as that's when they're open. The service here is impeccable. We had appetizers and two craft beers (IPA and Bock). Sardines, cod croquets, liver, salad, pork cheek, and pork sandwich. Beware: they serve the liver cold. All our dishes were delicious. I've had the best service here. Seriously thinking about doing lunch AND dinner while in Porto. It's worth it.

Food was decent and lots of character in the space but service was not very good. Was quite slow and brought meals out about 20 minutes apart instead of together. One caution is that they only accept cash. No credit cards! I found this quite surprising and inconvenient for a full service restaurant. Being used to Canada where about 70% of the people don't carry cash but only use debit or credit cards I can see this being a deterrent to visit. I would probably not visit again until they accept credit cards. Traveling with cash in a new country is never the safest thing to practice.

Absolutely wonderful dining experience!!! This rustic family owned restaurant serves up some of the best food of Northern Portugal. Its tucked away in a hidden alley so finding it may be a bit tricky but well worth the hunt. Every menu item is seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The dishes capture the simple essence of the food but all the flavors marry together well. I ordered a vegetarian sausage and mushroom rice dish. Common seasonings such as thyme and rosemary are used but again, all the food is cooked so well that each bite is truly perfection. Portions are generous. The menu appears to change seasonly which to me is a plus. Ingredients are fresh and clean. The actual space is both romantic and rustic. Reservations are recommended. Pricing is affordable: 2 glasses of wine, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees was about 35 Euro! This restaurant to me is the epitome of Porto culinary culture. Obrigada!

The table side chorizo that they light with a flame for you along with a fantastic pitcher of sangria is worthwhile. We did not eat a lot there and weather was awful but it was a fun place to sit and people watch for a drink and snack. We even had a "flash band" set in front of us during the rain! They deserved their tip! Situated right on the main town side of the Douro river it's quite close to all the sites.

There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

Loved all the dishes we ordered and was extremely happy and satisfied with our first restaurant once landing in Porto! Cost: Reasonably priced dishes (maybe a tad on the expensive end) but the quality of the dishes were worth it! Environment: The restaurant is very cozy! Initially I thought it was super small but the rooms are just very long and they have a decent amount of seating available however it does fill up fast so after reading some reviews I did choose to make a reservation just incase! Service: Good service, had no issues and all the dishes came out in a timely manner. Uniqueness: Cozy restaurant with plenty of dishes to choose from!
