If you are a nurse, then theres no way you wouldn't know who Florence Nightingale is. She is THE PIONEER OF NURSING. Without her, we'd probably still be cleaning wounds with sewage water.... :D I didn't actually make it into the museum, more like beelined to the gift shop at the entrance for some nursing knick knacks...they have organ shaped gummies, magnets, syringe pens/highlighters, shirts, bags, small gifts & goodies most of which have somewhat of a relationship with nursing. I was kinda like a kid in a candy shop... The museum is right next to St. Thomas hospital and walking distance from Big Ben and most of London's major tourist attractions. Check it out if you are in the area.

Since the wife is a nurse, this was a mandatory stop for us. It is a small museum right next to the hospital. It only takes about 30 minutes to walk through. There is plenty of Florence Nightingale memorialize and personal items, as well as history on nursing practices and a special section on the Spanish Flu. There is a small gift shop and tickets are £15 per person. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what you expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special and a 5 means you were blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing and a 1-star rating is terrible

First of all, Florence Nightingale is not a fictional and mystical charactor like Harry Potter or The Loch Ness monster. She's a real person. A nurse to be more accurate. And having a museum dedicated to her in the compounds of St. Thomas' Hospital was very appropriate. This museum is part of the London Pass so you're entry is already comped if you have the pass. It's a very small museum. Just one big room filled with pictures and clothing from Florence Nightingale as well as a lot of pro-nurses paraphernalia. Their "audio guide" is the use of a stethoscope and you listen to random stuff in one of their many stethoscope-friendly items. So today I learned that Florence Nightingale was a real person.

The Florence Nightingale Museum was another unique find during one of my wanders through London. It is located at St. Thomas Hospital and easy to miss. It felt like I was walking towards the urgency care entrance when I was trying to find the museum. The museum celebrates the life and work of Florence Nightingale. It brings her story from legend to reality. She is the world's most well-known nurse. The museum is operated by a non-profit organization and lives off of the visitor fees and donations. They also had a temporary exhibition that was very interesting on the Spanish Flu when I visited. The museum does a good job of walking you through Florence's childhood to last moments. You can see how a strongwilled intelligent young girl who was educated by her father was stifled by the times she grew up in and expectations of women. She studied to be a nurse in secret and begged with her family to go serve. Thank goodness they did. Florence's innovative organization and work during the Crimean war and beyond saved lives and influenced today's healthcare. Most importantly her courage led the way for nursing to become a profession in 1860 by starting the first professional training school for nurses. The museum also does an amazing job of highlighting the lives of other amazing nurses and influential women.
