Floriade is fine, but definitely over-hyped. So, come with mild expecations, and you'll be fine. We moved to Canberra in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic so our first Floriade, in 2021, was cancelled due to lockdown. So when Floriade went ahead in 2022, we were pretty excited. It's the one thing all Canberrans talk about and hype up. But in reality, it's exactly what it says it is: a bunch of tulips. And that's it really, a bunch of flowers. And the flowers aren't even the focus of Floriade when you're IN Floriade. The flower beds are everywhere but there's no feature flower bed. No one-flower-you-must-see-because-it-is-the-best-flower-ever sort of thing. Which is kind of what I expected, you know, given the name and such. Instead, it's a bunch of food and booze trucks, with spots for the Instagram influencers of Canberra to post photos that might get a few visitors from Sydney to come down. But because of the whole of it, it's still enjoyable for everything else PLUS flowers. Food and flowers. Drink and flowers. A Ferris Wheel and flowers. In that, it's more of a way for Canberra to say, as a collective 'Okay Winter, you're done.' In that regard, it's really great. And I'll be back. read more
#90 for 2021 Beautiful! Common Wealth Park holds the annual event in Canberra, Australia's capital city. It's a fantastic way to celebrate Spring down under surrounded by color and some delicious food. Runs for a whole month so you'll have lots of time to take advantage. It's a 3 hour drive from Sydney. Glad I wasn't driving. Mainly tulips but there are a few that have been sneaked in. i was going crazy with the pictures but I was buzzing on the buzz beer. Made with honey this beer was delicious. I went through a 6 pack quickly. Had to buy another one to have some at home. What I did go crazy on was these exotic candy ropes that were creme filled. I bought enough to last me the whole trip. I still had some after our return flight. I was savoring them. If you can make it to this annual event I highly recommend you do so. read more

I have no doubt Floriade will be better as spring goes on. Some of the flowers were yet to bloom. We went on a rainy day, so didn't spend long there. There weren't many other things to do, apart from some small markets. The gardens were lovely but on a rainy day you can't sit back and enjoy the scenery or live music. read more
