She was very condescending, and she made a lot of untrue assumptions about my health and condition that she didn't give me any opportunity to correct. She told me, a prediabetic, not to monitor my levels or symptoms, because I would be getting diabetes anyway and I could "worry about it then." She told me I couldn't be depressed because I was "married and looked happy." When I told her a medication was ineffective for me, she argued with me that I didn't understand the medication. Meanwhile, there was evidence in my blood tests that it wasn't effective. She told me I needed to lose weight while completely disregarding the medical conditions that are contributing to that inability to lose weight. She told me "I don't even know your diet, but we need to change your diet." I am an ambulatory wheelchair user. She told me I was "too young to be in a wheelchair" while simultaneously asking no questions about what symptoms lead me to be in a wheelchair. She assumed the pain/weakness was in my legs because she never took a moment to ask where it was. It was my back. When I corrected her, she dismissed me. There is more, all negative, but these were the highlights. It was evident that she had made up her mind about me as soon as she saw my age, weight, and my wheelchair. She let her biases prevent her from actually engaging with me and the provided care clearly suffered because of that. On a more personal note, she was fully aware of my mother's terminal cancer before my appointment, because she has been involved in my mother's care as well. I am my mother's primary caregiver. She knew and verbally acknowledged the kind of stress that situation would put on a person. I told her I had been diagnosed with MDD and GAD. She was aware that I had the mental conditions and external circumstances to create a mentally and emotionally sensitive or delicate person. She still chose to treat me in a callous and condescending way. I am very fortunate that I have a good support system at home and a trusted therapist. For another person in my situation, but without a support system to fall back on, a visit to Dr Mercer could be dangerous.

Having a connective tissue disease means a lot of doctor appointments for referrals and for regular care. The reception team get me timely appointments, call to remind me of my appointments, and have processed all my referrals and prescriptions correctly. The medical technicians/nurses have been polite, helpful, and professional at every encounter. This is a small office with just Dr Abskhroun to see patients. There have been a few times when I had to wait past my appointment time to see him. This is because he never rushes through appointments. I can appreciate that in doing so (listening to his patients) appointments can run long. Dr Abskhroun likes to focus on just a couple issues at a time to ensure no overlap in need for specialty referrals or medication prescriptions. This has reduced my daily medication load making my liver happier.

At 77, there's no such thing as a 'quick fix' so once you make peace with yourself, this doctor does everything in his power to restore your quality of life. He makes sure that with any procedure, you are comfortable and will not experience pain...which my pain threshold is really, really low. He's very methodical, examines with care and LISTENS TO YOU! A couple sitting 2 seats down from my husband and I did not have one on. They kept coughing, hacking up loogies and smelled. Once they left I asked the gentleman at the front desk for some Lysol and they do not have any in the office. I was shocked. I have worked in the medical field my whole working career and there was always Lysol around. The Dr is MONEY HUNGRY. I just moved here from Texas. My pain stimulator is a little over a year old and I've had 3 blocks for my condition. He starts out by wanting X-rays. Talking about doing a block and adding another lead or replacing mine. I had the BEST Dr in Houston. I have not fallen or been in an accident. I mainly needed a place to meet my Nevro reps. He talks down to you. Won't let you talk and will tell you "we aren't taking about that right now". When he's asked a question and you're trying to explain. He had the worst bed side manners. You sit in the hall and he sits in his office at your visit. Weirdest visit I've ever had. I WILL NOT be going back to him. The reviews that's on his website are made up or he asked family, friends, coworkers or a few people that liked him to say some kind words. I use to do internet marketing so I know how that works. A lot of the reviews we would call around and ask our friends to write a review for us or create a new account and write it ourself. So when looking for real reviews look for someone that writes a lot of reviews good and bad. If they are all good then that person works for the company. Don't waste your time or money on this man. You can tell he's doing his job for money only and women are beneath him, so he thinks.
