It's located in Downtown Jensen Beach and they close of the main street, and one street over so vendors can set up shop along main street, and the rides and stages etc are one block over. We walked down mainstreet and perused the vendors which were selling a wide range of interesting art, some clothing, jewelry, and some food as well. The carnivalish street has lots of activities for kids, and some more food and drink options as well. The stage is set up in a parking lot with some seats and room to dance. I thought it was well laid out and looked fun. I wasn't particularly wowed by Pineapple festival, but we don't have kids and besides the restaurants that we know and enjoy on the perimeter there isn't much for us after wandering the vendor lined main street. However we'll most likely be back next year to support the community.

In fact there was only one vendor there selling pineapple slush things and that was it! There was live entertainment which was great and several carnival rides. There was a great variety of fair food, however I was expecting pineapple flavored things and fresh pineapples for sale and that was not the case. Hopefully next year. The festival wasn't very large, we basically walked around the block. We went on few admission day and it was nice weather therefore we enjoyed the short walk but I would have been upset if I had paid to get in. Parking is awful.... there isn't any.

Speckled perch also known by the not as appealing name of crappie is a fresh water fish considered to be one of the best tasting with a sweet, mild flavor. It's high in protein and omega-3s, and low in saturated fat. It is also a good source of magnesium and vitamin B12. The fish is a favorite of anglers fishing Lake Okeechobee. The Speckled Perch Festival is a two day festival held in Flagler Park. The festival kicks off with a parade with classic cars and a cattle drive at 10 AM. Festivities then continue at the park with a classic car show, food tents and trucks, vendors, live music, and religious and local civic groups. Parking is plentiful on the surrounding streets and admission is free. This was my first time attending and I had a great time. This is exactly the kind of family and pet friendly, quaint Florida event I love. There was even more food and shopping at the area businesses lining Main Street. This annual event brings the community together for food and fun.

We had great seats in the media/photography pit, my only complaint or advice would be to wear a wide brimmed hat and lots of sunscreen. Even in November, Florida is brutally hot. I did get really scared during the parts where the canons went off, I jumped every single time. My favorite part of the show was definitely the acrobatics show where the planes would dip, dive, corkscrew, and roll. I also liked seeing the helicopters dumping water in the simulated water drop to put out fires.

So after lunch I was looking forward to checking it out. The big fence surrounding it kind of perplexed me. As we circled around I saw the signs $5 per person and a line to get in. Too bad, not that I can't afford the $5 pp. it just left a really sour taste.. When I have attended in the past , almost always I buy something. The artists are missing out because of this now. Probably one of the smallest festivals I have ever been to however they did have all the key…read moreelements. Held at a great location this small festival is held durring the spear fishing tournament for Lionfish at the end of the day, divers bring in their catch to weigh. Lionfish are an invasive species and this is a tournament to help control the population to give native species a better chance of survival. While waiting for the fisherman there is live music, a small booth selling lionfish tacos etc. An educational booth where you can learn about the lionfish and why it is important to remove them and a few other vendors. It is all held at the Ft Pierce Marina which has a few restaurants and a gift shop. We arrived about noon to try and beat the rain but walked though the festival in about 10 minutes. We sat and listened to music for a few minutes which was the best part of the festival. Next time we will wait to go until closer to the end of the day to watch the fisherman bring in their catch. There is not enough to do to make it an all day affair.

A nice place to learn about manatees along the Fort Pierce waterfront…read more While visiting Fort Pierce, we decided to stop at the Manatee Observation and Education Center located near the A.E. Backus Museum and found it to be a very nice little attraction. Admission was only $3 per person, making it an inexpensive place to spend some time and learn about Florida's manatees and other local wildlife. The center is a stand-alone building with two main rooms and an observation area overlooking the water. Inside there are three tanks, including two with fish and another with starfish and anemones. There are a lot of interesting displays and activities that seem especially geared toward children, although we enjoyed looking through them as adults as well. One of the more unusual things I enjoyed was a small robotics display that I thought was very cool. The staff was wonderful and took the time to explain the different parts of the center and answer our questions. Outside, there is a covered walkway along the water with informational signs explaining the area and its wildlife. Across the water is a very nice mural painted along the seawall that adds some color to the view. Behind the center there is also a fun mural and photo opportunity where you can see how you "size up" compared with a manatee. Make sure you go up to the observation deck above the walkway, which gives you a nice view of the water and surrounding area and, if you're lucky, perhaps a chance to spot a manatee. Overall, this is a very nice and inexpensive stop in the Fort Pierce area. Between the displays, tanks, friendly staff, waterfront setting, and observation deck, it is a good place to learn a little more about manatees and the local environment. Enjoy!
