On Thursday, December 19, myself and five friends came to the Old Stone Inn for the seasonal "Jingle Bar." We were told they did not take reservations so we expected to wait. After waiting a while the hostess offered to seat us in the separate restaurant to order drinks to wait for our table in the bar area. We sat at the table for 45 minutes before a server greeted us. She forgot to bring over menus, returned with them, and never came back to us. We never even got water. After an hour we checked back in with the hostess, she informed us that our table was ready, however, another party of six seated themselves. They said they could not make that party move and we had to wait for the next available table. The manager offered to seat and serve us in the lobby of the Inn. We chose to not accept his offer because the lobby area was not suitable for dining. It was full of other patrons waiting for the tables. We were seated after another 30 minutes at a high table with 4 high chairs and 2 short chairs. Two people in my party never got their drinks. They were offered their drinks after we got our bill. I am not sure if it was because we were younger girls in our 20s, but we were not attended to as the other guests of the restaurant were. This was a very disappointing experience, we drove from Buffalo for this holiday bar. I would not recommend coming to this establishment. Absolutely wonderful restaurant, I had brunch here and ordered the Traditional Country Mill Breakfast with fruit instead of beans and gluten free toast. The gluten free bread was thick and sumptuous and went perfectly with the butter and jam provided, the bacon included was also scrumptious with a hint of maple. Came here looking for a nice place to eat breakfast before seeing Niagra Falls. The food was decently good, although very expensive, and the service was absolutely terrible. We were frankly ignored by our server, and rushed when she came to the table. We felt looked down on and judged as two younger people. My partner ordered a cup of coffee and the server neglected to mention that they did not serve single cups, only an entire French press! She then pressured me into having a cup for coffee as well, until I finally had to tell her that I didn't drink coffee. The food came out quickly but was not hot, our water glasses were never refilled, and we had to flag down our server to get the check minutes after we had finished eating. This scratch kitchen is located inside the Old Stone Inn Boutique Hotel, a historic century stone building originally built in 1904 as a flour mill. We had just spent a few hours at Comic Con and checked this place out as soon as they opened for an early dinner at 4pm on a Saturday. This was probably one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! Our servers not only made great suggestions and were friendly and attentive, but they went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of, while still giving us our privacy. We sat on their fancy sofas and I'm super short and couldn't touch the floor, so they actually rearranged their decor to get me a sturdy wooden box to use as a footrest. Never in my life has a restaurant offered to accommodate that. You'd think we were VIP or something! We also had a really engaging chat with Stacey, the Director of Food and Beverage for the hotel and who runs the restaurant. On top of making things from scratch, they support other local businesses, farmers, and artisanal producers, including Stacey's brother's business, Turncoat Brewing Company. The small selection of beers aren't on the drink menu, so be sure to ask what's available. My husband ordered a tall boy can of Copper Rocker amber ale and it was tasty. They do have a wine menu and nights with wine tastings, but we wanted to try the cocktails. We asked for a couple that weren't too sweet and our server suggested the Southern Tipsy Palmer and Summer Laven. I had the Southern Tipsy Palmer with Bulleit bourbon, fresh lemon juice, honey ginger syrup, fresh mint, iced berry tea, and torched citrus. My husband had the Summer Laven with Dillon's gin, limoncello, lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, cranberry splash, tonic water, and candied citrus. We both loved our drinks and found them strong but still refreshing, and not too sweet like we asked. We split the arancini to start, which was truffle mushroom arancini, with San Marzano tomato sauce and parmigiano reggiano. I was looking at the risotto for a main, so this was a good appetizer portion without committing to the full dish. If it used the same ingredients, it had woodland mushrooms, truffle paste, and truffle oil. My husband would've loved more tomato sauce, but I thought it was just fine and all very flavourful. The outside was fried golden brown and crispy, and the rice inside had a nice bite to it. I was really debating what to get, and the lamb and beef short rib were really tempting, but I went with the bone-in ribeye. It was the priciest main on the menu at $79, so I also asked how big the steak was. They weren't sure about weight but said it was really large and was the whole plate. I trusted our server and she did not steer me wrong! I would say it was at least 10oz. It was supposed to be bone-in but there was maybe an inch of bone and the rest was perfectly grilled Black Angus beef. It was on the rare side of medium-rare like I asked, the herb garlic compound butter on top made it extra indulgent, and the red wine jus on the side really took it over the top. It was served on a wooden chopping board that caught any extra juices. The veggies were on top of the steak - rapini, carrots, cherry tomatoes, and crispy onion straws. The veggies were firm, buttery, and seasoned with salt and pepper. It also came with truffle parm wedges, but they were actually fries. I didn't mind, though. They were good and crispy, but I saved most for later to make sure I ate all of the steak, especially since there wasn't a fridge or microwave/oven in our room to heat it back up and the fries were still okay cold. My husband had the beef short rib, which (of course) I had a bite of. They were braised and came with yukon gold mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, onion straws, and jus. He loved it and I thought it was great as well. It was a smaller dish than the steak and the second most expensive at $69. We liked our own dishes better, so it worked out, but they were both fantastic. I wanted something to wake me up from the day and meal but I'm not a coffee drinker. I am, however, a B-52 fan, and they did have it (off menu), but I didn't want anything hot on this summer day. Our server asked if I wanted it iced and... BRILLIANT. I don't know why I never thought of that before, but it was genius. Even Stacey came by and said it was a great idea and maybe they should put it on the menu (they totally should!). It was delicious! Same sugar rim, whipped cream, and maraschino cherry, just iced. Very refreshing, highly recommend. We were so incredibly impressed and appreciative that we had to go to the back just to say goodbye and give a heartfelt thanks to all of the staff who looked after us. We truly had such an amazing time. We had to leave town to head back home, so unfortunately we weren't able to make their popular breakfast/blunch (not brunch!) that we heard such great things about, but hopefully next time! Stumbled upon this place through Google "brunch spots" I didn't expect much due to "tourist trap" anticipation but ones gotta eat! I was very impressed. Food: delicious and great portions. The French press coffee was nice and smooth perfect way to start the morning. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Service: nice and smooth and was attentive even though 2 people in our party arrived later they still tried to accommodate and speed up our orders and be served together. I can't even begin to tell you how TOP NOTCH it was at this restaurant. The atmosphere is divine. You are made to feel special as soon as you walk in the door. The decor is tres chic as they would say in Canada (which is where we were.) The coffee, the food, oMG!!!! I had a crème brûlée French toast with real maple syrup. YUM-MO! We didn't get a chance to eat here. Reservation for afternoon tea was confirmed days in advance. We were on a trip and everybody was expecting something special. It turned out to be a big disappointment. Less than 24 hr prior to our reservation we got a cancellation and refund notice from sevenrooms. No real person reached out. Didn't get a chance to ask about the opportunity to dine at a different time or any other options. It was a very unwelcoming feeling. To be fair, worse things could have happened. So I'm giving this place a 2 star. I don't know when we are going to visit Niagara Falls again so the chance to dine here will be slim, so is the chance to change my review. A few words for the owner. Please be extra cautious about customers decision to dine with you. It may be just another customer of yours. Short ribs were supposed to come with puréed cauliflower but they were mashed potatoes. Could have sent it back but at that point we just wanted to get out of there. Asked if we wanted dessert & oddly told us it was the pastry chefs first day. Why would you tell a customer your staff is new? It makes the screw ups ok? We were there for lunch yesterday, November 26 2021, for my birthday. The restaurant is beautifully decorated for the Holidays and it feels like an elegant European ski lodge. The food is excellent. After circling quite a bit to find a breakfast place around noon on a Sunday ... (IHOP and Denny's were NOT considered viable options) we stumbled across this place. From the road, I was sure to be honest. Tucked inside a 'boutique hotel' - it was much better as we got in there. Not all that big with a few seating areas. (Was curious how often they used their "chef's table" room) service was quick and friendly with French press coffee. Food took a little while but not too bad. The food was great. My wife said it was the best breakfast she's ever had and that's after being at some of the top-rated places in NYC. I thought it was very good as well.
