I am a gardening newbie and everyone talks about this place so we packed up the kids and went. This place is amazing. I learned so much in just 1 visit. They have everything. We bought some seeds and some seedlings and all are doing well so far this early in the season. I loved the mailboxes holding the maps and information related to the sections. My kids loved the park area with the spinning water wheel and ducks, chickens, other birds. I gave 4 stars because the check out process was long, only had two cashiers and the line was very backed up. That said, the customer service was great and the employees knowledgeable and willing to chat and answer questions. Parking was easy and convenient. I would definitely come back. read more

Rather weak implementation of COVID protections. Felt unsafe there. 40ish percent of patrons not wearing masks, 90ish percentage of workers not wearing masks. No plexiglass at cashiers just a 6 foot line on the floor that wasn't strictly enforced. Mgnt is seemingly not taking this seriously or showing leadership like Costco based on the controls I observed or lack thereof. Total head scratcher. It seems that they are abusing their privilege of being an "essential business" Based on what I observed, all retail businesses should be allowed to open. I'm lucky enough to live about 5 minutes from Flower World... but I'm not biased because of that. I am in the landscape design & build business full time, and that means I research, design with, and buy LOTS of plants year-round. I have tried many different local nurseries - and can't complain about any of them, really. But, at FW I always know that I will have access to the best selection, healthy plants, and - in my opinion - the best prices available at a nursery of this nature. I choose FW over my local wholesale nurseries because of quality and availability of the plants I want, and the fact that all of the outdoor plants they stock do very well in our climate - from the typical to the more unusual. I love the fact that they have something for everyone - including an espresso stand inside the tropical plants house - even a beautifully landscaped pond with ducks, geese & chickens to visit; a big ol' waterwheel; walking paths; a petting zoo with adorable goats, chickens, peacocks and pheasants; a little farmer's market across the way that sells locally grown produce, herbs, seasonal surprises, and even fresh eggs from their free-range hens on-site! It's a very big place, and you will feel like you've walked for miles and miles by the time you're done shopping... but that's not necessarily a bad thing, right!? The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, too. But, if you're looking for a Gift Shop/Boutique type of atmosphere you won't find it here. Flower World does have some nice pots and statuary - but it's mostly a gardeners' nursery, for those of us who like to play in the dirt (or at least point to where we want the hole dug)! I've been to Flower World a few times over the last decade and it may have just been the off-season staffing / maintenance...but things were looking a little run down. Not just the grounds but also the plants in the greenhouses weren't looking as healthy as I am accustomed to. The staff were friendly and made sure we were locating what we needed. I heard their ads on the radio, and finally took an afternoon to run up there and check the place out. I am SO glad I did. In the past, I enjoyed going to Molbak's for their wide selection. This place make's Molbaks look like an amateur. An overpriced amateur. Not only does Flower World have an astounding selection of everything, I was blown away by the incredible variety of evergreen trees. All of which were 20-30% cheaper than the identical product at Molbaks (one variety was $230 at Molbak's, but $180 at Flower World). Just be forewarned -- don't expect to get out of there in less than 2 hours. I was only interested in certain types of plants, so I ignored large areas of the place, and I still spent over 2 hours. If you are at all into gardening or plants for any purpose, this is a must-visit business. read more

First visit here and discovered an awesome selection of anything that grows! We wanted to buy a live tree for Christmas and then plant it in the back yard. Overwhelming decision with all the choices available! We ended up with a cool looking six foot Serbian Spruce that has a hint of blue to its needles. Prices are reasonable compared to retail stores and we will return here in the spring to check out all the other shrubs and trees. Friendly knowledgeable staff that provided us with care and planting information after taking the ornaments off to transition outside. read more

WOW!!!! You could spend the whole day here. It is no surprise this spot is a photographer go to for senior portraits or a place to take little kids to the petting zoo. A huge nursery with extremely fair pricing. Plant conditions can range from pampered to overly rootbound. While I would still probably buy trees from Wells Medina for their quality, Flower World offers excellent bang for the buck all around. They have a vast selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. If you're thinking about mail ordering for something not-so-rare-but-not-so-available, check here first. I felt so sheepish after finding out much of what I'd ordered from ForestFarm (in OR) already here and minus the costly shipping expense. Why not make a day of it this spring? Grab your old plastic pots (Flower World recycles them), marvel at the acres of irises at Walsterway Farm next door, then spend the rest of the day at Flower World, strolling through their display gardens and going plant crazy. read more

Ok, who doesn't love this place? Yes, they are a bit overpriced but the selection can't be beat. My main complaint? And it's kinda a big one... THE PULL CARTS ARE HORRIBLE! Unlike other nurseries, Flower World's carts are totally flat so plants and pottery are always in danger of sliding off. Happens to me almost every visit, branches have broken off, dirt spilled out of pots. When it doesn't happen, it's because I stressfully watched the cart constantly as I ride it over the bumpy walkways. Flower World, please please please order new carts that have a raised lip around the perimeter so stuff doesn't fall off. Or hire a welder to fix the carts you have. read more

I recently purchased 3 hybrid tea roses from Flower World. They like most HT's had been bare-root planted in pots and then were put out for public purchase after they had budded out. Because they were recently transplanted I waited a month to transplant them again in larger containers. I was surprised during the month period how little they had grown. But , during transplanting the reason became obvious. They used the WORST planting medium possible. (In addition most "quality" nurseries uses 5 gal containers, some that may even be compostable. Not Flower World: cheap, plastic 2-3 gal containers) . It was little more than dirt, sand and rock-which had morphed into a "concrete block" when I tried to transplant the roses. The only way I could transplant them was by breaking off the roots that had fused with the dirt. I could have collected better "soil" sweeping up sand/dirt from the hiway shoulders! The WORST soil ever. What were you thinking? Plants to survive and thrive have to have a good mixture of nutrients/organic material and drainage. Save your money, buy roses from anywhere else. And when I called to complain (asking for someone who oversaw the HT roses) NO ONE CALLED BACK. Premium prices for roses, poor quality soil, and poor quality service. What more could you ask for? read more

I can't go here too often, because it's so hard to get out without a whole catalog of flora that I really don't have room for. But when you're looking for either that unusual specimen, an enormous variety of species, or a bunch of basket-fillers, you must must MUST visit Flower World. Prices are great, selection is absolutely unbeatable...it's heaven, with chickens! For a special day, get to Maltby early and have a huge breakfast at the Maltby Cafe before your plant shopping. The staff is friendly, helpful, patient. We spent a couple hours there and walked out with two rose bushes (we had just purchased two somewhere else, we didn't need these) a clematis and a sweet pea. I am a budding (no pun intended) gardener who actually ordered plants online because my local Home Improvement store didn't carry what I wanted......never again.......I found Flower World. Could today have been a more gorgeous day?? While enjoying breakfast at Clearview Cafe (go there the next time Maltby Cafe has a 1 hour wait!), Leo and I decided "Let's go to Flower World... just to look around"... yeah right!! Yes, you can spend forever just strolling the grounds and looking at all of the different plants, flowers, and trees, but we almost never walk away empty handed. Today was no exception. Not wanting to go overboard (but wanting to take advantage of being in the sun for some yard work when we would get home) we purchased 5 tulips (yes, almost out of season already, but we needed to replace some that have expired... RIP tulips, RIP...) and enough flowers for the 3 pots in the front of our house. Plenty, PLENTY of flowers and a great price (including 2 bags of potting soil) for under $70. We happen to have an E-card discount card (10% off so ask them how you can join and get a discount). We've been going here for over 5 years and will keep going back. Yes, it can get crowed on the weekends (especially when the weather is gorgeous) but be kind, take your time, and feed some ducks... read more

While the selection here is amazing, the quality of the plants is sub-par. I've found that there is roughly a 75% chance that the plants purchased will die once I get them home and in the ground (not nearly the case when I purchase from Home Depot or Lowe's). Most of the plants are not labeled in their pots so you have a chore to remember the details of everything you buy unless you're going there for one specific plant and know everything about it already. Almost everything I've ever bought had also been badly root bound - a sign of low turnover or low maintenance. I'm disappointed, I wanted this place to be the Holy Grail of nurseries, but unfortunately it's not. read more

We go here several times a year to get garden plants and flowers but I was severely disappointed with the information desk. I took a plant that had some spots on the leaves to inquire about possible treatment. The two gals at the information desk had no desire to even hear or attempt to answer my question. I pointed out that a number of their plants had these spots on their leaves and then pointed to a photo on a chart that they pulled out and they didn't even compare the photo with the plant I brought over before going talk to other people who walked up after me and answer the phone. I would not recommend this place to anyone until they get some better customer service. read more

I love this place, and I hate going to it. I know they have lots of variety and lots of neat plants. But I know it is gonna cost me a bucket of money unless I go without my wallet. The last time we went we were looking for herbs for the balcony herb garden. They have almost any herb you could think of and some you would never know existed. I was a long time loyal shopper but I think I can no longer shop here ( despite the fact I live quite close). They use incredibly poor potting soil in their pots which dries out twice as fast as it should. This isn't as critical for plants you plan to replant but for hanging baskets ( whose prices have really shot up) it's a deal breaker. Be careful not to let the plants waiting to go into the ground dry out either. Seriously, I came here to see if anyone else was complaining about this. I'm surprised to see I am the only one. Check out the soil when it's dry. It's grey and resembles landfill. Unfortunately, I suspect this is one of the ways they have kept their prices so reasonable though they seem to be creeping up to comparable to anywhere else. Oh Flower World, you too? :( read more

Flower World has a large variety of plants. The staff is helpful, and if you ask they also have landscape design services at very reasonable prices. They also have a neat waterfall garden area with cages of birds that the kids really enjoy as a treat if they are good after you are done with your shopping for plants. Flowerworld is definately worth the drive as it is one of the largest nurseries in the area. read more

They are also helpful, giving good suggestions for planting and caring for plants, even ones I had bought elsewhere. Huge, huge, huuuge. It's like a slice of heaven. I would love for them to carry a bigger assortment of succulents and cacti. Washington doesn't have a big selection of big cactuses and it's a bummer because I don't want to try to transport one from Portland to Washington after paying that much. I really like this nursery and the grounds, it's a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon. They have very affordable houseplants, in part because they propagate and grow many of their own plants but beware, I believe another reason why they are affordable is because they use soil from either the ground, or soil that has been exposed to the outdoors. I recently purchased 4 indoor houseplants and had to repot every single one with new clean indoor plant soil because they all had worms in the pots. Like, large earthworms. I also came across some spiders and a couple of snails. I'm not sure why this is acceptable for any plant intended for inside someone's home. Anyways I'm writing this review not to knock flower world, but to inform others to always check the roots and soil before bringing plants into your home, and if you're going to bring home a beautiful plant from flower world, it might not hurt to buy a bag of clean potting soil while you're at it. read more
