We were greeted by the voice of "Heidi" and a projected field of cows in the tunnel of the Skymetro. What a great welcome! We went through passport control rather smoothly. There was a line, but it moved quickly. Claiming our luggage through baggage claim went very well. On departure, we originally couldn't find the American Airlines check-in area. Fortunately, there are staff everywhere to assist you. Going through security was quick after scanning our boarding pass to enter. There's an escalator that takes you up through the DF Shop to get to the gates. That shop has automated kiosks to help with those last minute purchases. There are lots of food options and shops once you get past security. You'll get a goodbye message from "Heidi" when taking the Skymetro back to the international (E) gate. It was a very warm & worry-free experience!

I thought that was pretty cool and definitely makes this airport different from others I have flown out of. I was staying in Basel, so this airport was really convenient for me. The public transportation made it pretty easy to get to, which was a big plus. It's also a smaller airport compared to some of the major European airports, so it felt a little less overwhelming and easier to get around. The only thing I didn't really like was the lack of information about when airline check-in actually opens. I arrived about three hours early for my flight, which is pretty normal for me when traveling internationally, but the check-in staff for my flight didn't even show up until around 90 minutes before boarding. I definitely could have slept in a little longer! I think it would be helpful if they clearly listed the check-in opening times for each airline/flight so passengers know when they actually need to arrive. Especially if one is taking public transportation to the airport, it would be nice to know if you really need to get there three hours early or if you can give yourself a little more time. Unfortunately, I didn't get to explore the airport too much since I was focused on getting to my flight, so I feel like I didn't get the full experience. Hopefully, next time I'm in Basel, I'll have more time to enjoy the airport and not be in such a rush. Overall, I would definitely fly out of here again, especially when staying in Basel. It is convenient, easy enough to navigate, and a nice alternative to some of the much larger airports in the area.

This small airport was located about 15 minutes from the port where we disembarked from our cruise…read more We paid for transfers to the airport (don't normally do this), but I was glad of it because not only did they transport us to the airport, but they walked us through the terminal, in the elevators, and over to the check-in / ticketing area. This was very convenient and we didn't have to think about anything. I mean, we could have figured it out, eventually, but this only took a few minutes. Security was pretty breezy. We spent a lot of time in the duty free shop before going to the gate. There were a few dining options, didn't love what we purchased, but we found plenty of seating to wait for our flight.

SWISS Airlines has been the worst airline experience I've ever had. Every time I contact customer service, they send me generic links and repeatedly tell me to "check the lost and found" at my local airport -- even though the bag is clearly in THEIR system and in THEIR possession. No one at SWISS takes responsibility, no one follows up, and no one seems to care that my belongings are missing. It feels like once they took my luggage, they stopped caring about what happened to it. For an airline that advertises "Swiss quality," their customer care is shockingly dismissive and unhelpful. I would strongly warn anyone traveling with SWISS: if something goes wrong, you are completely on your own.

When you have a carry on and it is within thecorrect size why the fuck does it matter the weight? On the way from LA to Zurich on Swiss Airlines the women at check in offered to take my carry on bag free of charge because i didnt need to carry it but since i could it was free to take. Now going home on the exact same airline the woman would not take the bag and the managers were complete asses and marked on my ticket that my bag was to heavy so that I couldnt take it through security, but if I wouldnt have asked I could have carried it through no problem cause they dont check the weight in security. Instead I had to pay an extra $90chf for a fucking carry on which doesnt make any sence cause it was the exact same weight coming here. Idiots. Not flying with them ever again.

This is an interesting little airport that is more convenient to certain regions of Switzerland…read morethan the airports in Zurich or Geneva. This facility serviced around 271,000 passengers in 2014 making it the fourth busiest in Switzerland. The traffic level was just over 1% of the level experienced by Zurich airport, the busiest in the country, the same year. When I recently used this airport, I had business in Visp and this was quite a bit closer compared to the larger options. I like smaller airports as they are much easier to navigate than their larger counterparts. This is one of the smallest I have used. There is not much to the facility as there are only a couple of airlines that are present. The waiting areas are small as is the bag claim. There is a limited eatery at the far end of the building that is convenient for a coffee or a light bite. As an originating airport, the approach and access are facile. The drop off area is small but adequate which can also be said of the parking. The check-in and security areas are user-friendly. As a terminating airport, the same advantages of a small airport come into play. The bag claim area functions well and the curbside pickup is easy to navigate. There is also a bus that takes passengers to and from Bern Train Station. The disadvantages of small airports often times come into play, however. In the big picture, airports such as these do not have frequent flights and are very limited on the number of destinations. But there are more specific issues as well. On my arrival from Munich, I needed a carnet stamped for a piece of equipment I was carrying. Getting the carnet stamped was the reason I flew instead of taking a train or driving. Unfortunately, the Customs people, who were supposed to be there until 9 PM (it was about 7:15 PM when I arrived), were arbitrarily gone for the day putting me in a bit of a dilemma. Overall, this airport has advantages in some situations. The best aspects are that it is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. The location is also good for many destinations in Switzerland. The downside is the limited services available. However, if the situation presents itself as favorable, I would certainly consider using this airport again.

The low level of stress checking in here makes the chaos of airports elsewhere seem comical. This being Switzerland, where everything is incredibly expensive, the flights from here are surprisingly cheap.
