Came here with some fellow yelpers (Travis S. and Benjamin L.) to grab a bite to eat and catch up. Travis already described everything... so I'm feeling a little behind. The quick review is that we got some pizzas, a pitcher of sangria and some spinach & artichoke dip. It was all good and affordable, but nothing to blow your socks off. The pizza was super thin crust so you felt a bit healthier eating it. The spinach and artichoke was the biggest disappointment as it came with these flimsy bread things that were very difficult to dip. The space itself was pretty cool. Saturday at around 7:30pm it was full but not packed, so we had no trouble getting a table. The music was blasting so you had to shout some to be heard, but it was still manageable. I had a groupon for this place. It's weird because the groupon is for brunch and bottomless mimosas. But they don't open till noon. So is it really brunch? Anyways they serve "brunch" from noon to 3pm. When we went around 1:30pm on a weekend, there was only one dude/bartender working in the whole place (well besides the kitchen staff). But that seems tough. We kinda walked and sat down before he waved us over to the bar to order since he was the only one there. They offer a small menu for brunch - maybe 5 items or so. Which is nice - not too hard to choose. I got the breakfast pizza and my bf got the breakfast quesadilla. All the items are vegetarian and around $10-12. You can could add meat for a little extra. And we added sausage to the quesadilla. Also we got our first round of mimosas when we ordered. Mimosas were good. Found when I got my second and third refills that it's premade and in a pitcher so maybe not the freshest mimosas. Food came out a little while later and both dishes were great. The birdnest pizza is thin crust with spinach, tomatoes, potatoes, cheese and eggs. I wish the eggs were more runny when it came out bit they were pretty cooked. Still very delicious. The breakydilla had eggs, pepperjack cheese, potatoes and sundried tomatoes in a tortilla. And we added sausage to it. The cheese made it slightly spicy but they had scoops of guac and sour cream on the side to help. My bf liked both dishes as well and said he would come back. Not sure if the groupon is actually a deal. I would think the cost of the groupon us about what I would expect to pay normally. But glad I got to try this place. Fly Bar is the kind of relaxed neighborhood bar you wander into after dinner thinking you'll have just one drink and then head home to bed on time. Things start off reasonably enough - you order nigori (unfiltered) sake and make polite conversation with those around you. Their happy hour is great because the pizzas are half off! The drinks are lacking, however. They neither taste great nor seem to have any alcohol in them. It was very busy when I visited. The place was PACKED and the pizzas took FOREVER to come out. The waitress apologized continuously and eventually offered us another drink on the house, but we decided not to take it. Great place to grab drinks and pizza with friends. Ordered the Funky Chicken Pizza (bbq chicken) and pitcher of sangria. The pizza and sangria was pretty good. Service is kind of slow though. Didn't go for happy hour but they do have some great deals. Happy hour Monday-Friday 12-6pm pizzas $8.95 and $1 off pints- $6 house wine and $5 sangria. Every Tuesday night a large group of my friend's head to Fly Bar for Mangorito Tuesday (not a real event, but a long standing tradition). We take up a few too many tables and order too many pitchers of sangria. Fly Bar isn't technically allowed to serve hard liquor, so their mangoritas employ soju. At first it was a bit odd to me, but I got over that quickly. And I definitely suggest trying the sangria. I've tasted quite a few items off their dinner menu and was happy with the food. I'm a fan of the pizza and the spinach artichoke dip. The pizzettas (pizza with salad on top) are also good. The service is great. We typically have a large, unwieldy group, but they've always been able to handle us. It isn't always possible to do separate checks with a large party, so I'd suggest bringing some cash to make it easier on your server. read more

I think I've underestimated this bar, being that it's right down the street from me and that when I go out I'd like to feel as if I'm actually, like, GOING somewhere. My roommates and I used to drop by fairly often, back in our youthful 21 year-old days (like, last year), but lately the most action Fly has been getting from us is a visit to its bathroom while we're buzzing and waiting for a cab on the corner of Divis and Fulton. However, last night chillin' with my new friend, the music was too loud at Club Waziema and Madrone was charging a cover, so I suggested we head over to Fly, the neighborhood default. Of course being on that certain stretch of Divis, by default hard liquor was unavailable. We ordered the sangria, which is stroooong. Chatting under the favorable volume of Ella Fitzgerald and JT, sipping our drinks in a cozy booth below the dim lighting of the star lamps dotting the ceiling, I realized hey, this place is pretty cool. Sexy, even. I guess I just tend to forget because it's so close to home. To kill time while your bladder explodes waiting in line for the one stall, unisex, toilet seat cover-less bathroom (minus a star), stare very closely at the artwork of the girl in the outhouse--tripped me out the first time I realized it was a painting, not a photograph! Or maybe I just don't have the eye for that kinda thing, though from now I certainly won't take the neighborhood default for granted. Fly is bringing sexy back... yeah! read more

They also have a pool table which cost $1 in quarters, however the table and balls are a bit small and the walls get in the way. Okay, new review: so it's not "that" bad a place. the quiet chill takes some getting used to, but once you coalesce with the ambiance in this dimly lit but creatively decorated neighborhood lounge, and the crimson sangria by the pitcher, which, though not the best in the world but surprisingly strong and cheap, starts to well-up inside you, you start to enjoy it. Maybe a fun spot for sake bombing, I don't know. Nice people, convenient location, and the feel of the booths and the bar are so comfortable. The vibe is good - kind of SF partial divey but fun. I think they could improve their beer selection (especially draft) but it is still ok. The reason for the review however is the Tuna Melt. Shout out! I ordered it not expecting much since Tuna Melts are almost always underwhelming. The tuna salad is almost ALWAYS lukewarm or even cold somehow even after sitting on a hot grill. Not here. this is certifiably the first place I have EVER been to that had the tuna filling piping hot in the melt! I was stunned! We went to a photo gallery a few blocks down and were looking to grab a quick, cheap bite nearby afterwards. Some of the places around this area are really pricey and small, and we kind of just went with Fly Bar because of the cheap prices. But it was actually super solid! I haven't had dinner for two for less than $25 before tax in awhile, it's just the nature of where we live. But this bar had a really nice atmosphere, a big TV to watch the game, nice waiting staff, and pretty good food. It's not going to blow your mind, but you really can't beat the price. Only major gripe is how dark the place was, but it is primarily a bar so I can't completely hold it against them. read more

I'm so happy Fly Bar has been able to stay open during COVID. They have done a great job adhering to the up and down city COVID requirements and they seem to be working hard to accommodate everyone! A friend and I visited Fly Bar the other day and had a good time. It was a Monday evening, so it wasn't packed. We were able to quickly find a small two-top and order drinks with the bartender. I had a sangria, which was decent and inexpensive at just $5. We ordered a margherita pizza and enjoyed our drinks while we waited. The pizza came out and was hot and delicious. 30 minutes to get a drink? Are you kidding me? I was at Fly Bar with a small group this past weekend and it seriously took just under 30 minutes to get our first drink. Three of us got there ahead of our friends so had put in our order, so our poor friends had to watch us drink our drink and wait an even longer time to get theirs. I'm not sure what the hold up was as we just ordered beer and wine- we were there for an hour and a half and could barely order two drinks due to the service. It's also really cramped and a bit dingy feeling in here so not sure there's any reason to go back. read more

I had been here once before years ago, so when we decided to kill some time before Emporium opened up, it sounded like a good idea. We sat down and ordered flights of beers from their menu. They even have these cute cards for you to write your order down. We completed our cards and turned them into our waitress, only to wait about 20 minutes and have her come back with completely different beers. Apparently they were out of nearly half of what we ordered. Instead of coming back to tell us this, she just "took her best guess" as to what we would enjoy. If we had known that, we would have just selected other beers from the menu. Instead, she brought my friend another IPA that she purposely did not write down on her list because she knew she didn't like it. Not only were they completely different flights than we selected, but when she brought them over, she couldn't even tell us which beers where which!! In the end, we struggled through some of our awful beers and I paid $15 for this story about how our waitress gave us beers we didn't even order. Never coming here again. read more
