I was in Vancouver BC today and my colleagues and I came here to eat. It is located right by the river by Seaplanes flights & tours by Harbour Air Seaplanes. Its a gorgeous view. There were so many items on the menu it was very hard to decide. They have mainly seafood items, but they also have chicken, steak and some vegetarian. They have great cocktails, beer and wine. I decided on Seafood Hotpot with shrimp, Cod, Salmon, Mussels, Bok choy, bean sprouts and rice noodles in a Thai Coconut curry broth and half order of Caesar salad with grilled prawns(shrimp). They were delicious. My server was very friendly, attentive and prompt. I really enjoyed the dining experience, but I'm afraid I messed up on the tip and I don't think I tipped her enough(she was getting ready to go home). I realized after the fact. I doubled the tax like I always do, but according to my calculation, it wasn't enough. I got confused with the Canadian currency. When I go there next time, I will give her the additional tip I miscalculated on. I will definitely go back on my next visit. read more

Interesting location for a restaurant; it's right by the south airport terminal. You have to commit to the restaurant as there is nothing else around it. Luckily, despite being kind of in the middle of nowhere, it is quite easy to go to because it is located right off of Russ Baker way. We ordered 2 apps to share: nachos and calamari. Their calamari is unique ... I don't know what it is about them but I've never had calamari like that before and I loved it. The salsa that came with the nachos was delicious--perfect for sharing! I ordered the fish and chips because that seemed to be one of their speciialties and was a little disappointed. The batter was very heavy and too oily for my comfort so I ended up only being able to finish one piece of fish. I think in terms of fish and chips, Pajo's is 100% the winner. However, I will definitely give this place another try because I really enjoyed the view and vibes of the restaurant. Now the sticky toffee cake. This was the reason we came to Flying Beaver. So many of my friends raved about this cake and I had personally never heard of such thing prior...it just sounded too sweet and would give you instant cavities. Nevertheless, my friends were hyping it up and I was very excited to try it. I was not disappointed, don't get me wrong it was delicious but not my type of dessert. Consistently excellent service, great views and great food! They even offer a shuttle service to prevent patrons from drinking and driving, very applaudable. Last time I went for brunch, they brought me the wrong order and insisted on waiving my bill. When someone talks about drinking and food, I now think of this place. I've had good times here, food does play a part to it, but the atmosphere helps, in this case, quite a bit. My favorite nights here are Friday and Sunday night, that is when DJ Alibaba is in control of the music and is not just DJ'ing.. he is VJ'ing. He's taking request on what to play, but on both those nights he is playing up to the crowd while we down our drinks and eat our bar food in enjoyment. But this is Yelp, your going to ask me "how's the food?" it's actually not bad, there is a reason why this place is packed on most days! Just know what day your going, cause everyuday at this place there are specials, food and drinks, sometimes both, sometimes just one, also look out at the chalk board which I saw some other specials on one of the nights I was there. This place is definitely a 'wing's' joint on Wednesday's and Sunday's. Some of the best chicken wing's in town from hot, honey garlic, teriyaki, bbq, sweet Thai, and salt & pepper, they are plump and juicy, no small dried up alien pieces of wing that I usually see when places have these cheap nights! After a basket of these bad boys, I was stuffed, with a beer on the side, I didn't want any food, usually at other bars I probably could go digging into the bone pit for more little wings, but as I said, they don't cheap out, and each wing is plump and good. I have come also on Thursday, during their steak night, and it seems the people know where to come, packed, I'm hovering around like a vulture, or a crow, waiting for someone to pick up their butt and get along with their day and allow me to sit, get here early, or just be prepared to wait. Seating throughout the place almost guarantees a view of one of the many flat screen tv's they have if your here to catch the game, and if your here for DJ Alibaba's nights, he is mixing the music with the video's and if you go up and ask him, he may play one of your request, but he makes sure people are bobbing their heads, and on occassion people are dancing on the small dance floor! On the nights we came, the staff was very attentive, and even sitting at the bar, the bartender introduces himself first, ask your name, and remembers it throughout the night you are there and calls you by it, if you wanted anything else. It's in an odd location, but in some ways an awesome location, as if you come during afterwork, peak hours, you see the sea planes take off and land here, as the bar is situated at the terminal to these metal birds. Another cool thing they do is that they have a shuttle van, to take you away to the closest Skytrain, especially if you get lost here and have a few too many. Warning to all those who drive, this is a bottleneck, one way in, one way out, and potential for the boys in blue to check anyone who has left this establishment, play it safe people, so you can come here, and anywhere else again to play another night! So, they even have your safety in place, but for a good night of drinks, food, music, come here, especially on Friday's and Sunday's! read more

Three stars for our most recent experience. The Steak Sandwich was a little disappointing because it was dry. The Bocconcini Prawn Salad could have had more greens considering it was an entree sized salad for $17; the avocado on it was most disappointing, not only were there only three small slices, but it also wasn't ripe so was difficult to eat. In general, the staff here are very friendly and welcoming and they even have an area (actually, two!) for children who come with their families. They have specials pretty much everyday but our favourite one is probably the Sunday wing night special where you can order 50c wings (in batches of 10) and cheap beers ($4?). The food here is pretty decent and I've tried their other menu items such as their steak with prawns and mashed potatoes, fries, burgers, and other bar food and I find that most of it is above average. My sister suggested this joint on our one-day adventure to Richmond. We had been nearby at Speeders. It was technically Sunday brunch but to me it was my first meal so it was breakfast. Parking out front the building is very limited: 5-6 slots only. The parking lot across the road is ample. Luckily we had a space open up right in front of us. I elected the smoked salmon hash for my first meal. Then I washed it down with a November (Kraken Rum based drink) Don't judge me, as I'm on holiday! This place has a lot of reviews on yelp and I finally went to try it out last Friday night. The atmosphere was definitely full of excitement and happy conversations. They have a 2 for 1 appetizers nightly after 930pm! I can't say I love their appetizers - in face the portion is actually quite small for the price. There was a wait for a table when we arrived. The host at the door took our name. I requested a seat on the deck and he said he would let us know when a table became available. He offered us a seat by the fireplace when it became available but I said we really wanted a seat on the patio. We did get a seat on the patio but unfortunately we were seated right beside a very large table of 12 and they were pretty loud. It detracted from the experience somewhat. Not the restaurants fault. The patio is lovely, it overlooks the river and we could see seaplanes arriving and departing. The restaurant has such a beautiful setting. The service was very good considering how busy the restaurant was. Our server even did a quality check and brought us water when requested. I was very impressed by the level of service provided. We found the food to be just average. We were there on Sunday and the special was chicken wings for .60. We ordered 10 teriyaki wings and found them to be on the small side and a bit dry. For dinner my husband had the steak sandwich and I had 1 piece cod and chips. The food was decent not great. They do have a good sized parking lot across the street. Don't park in the numbered stalls at the end of the lot as this is pay parking. The stalls closest to the restaurant are free parking. When in Vancouver it's our favorite place to have dinner and an ice cold beer looking at the water planes taking off. It's located near the airport and next to Harbor Air. Flying Beaver is located in the Harbour Air terminal in Richmond. It's known for hearty portions of pub food, and a great selection of daily specials (including a daily $5 draught beer special). It gets very crowded, and seating is self-serve. I was there around lunchtime on a Monday, so I can't imagine what it would be like anytime near sunset, when you can catch the best views of the float planes taking off on the ocean. The decor is woodsy, including camping lanterns and other light fixtures made of bark. There is sundry taxidermy throughout (words I thought I'd never get to include in a Yelp review...) Service was pleasant and efficient, which was a real feat given how busy it was. My only complaint was that for $3 extra, they were a little stingy with the meat on our nachos. Even the server squinted at our plate of nachos, and said, "Oh, did they forget your meat? Wait ... there it is." The scalloped potatoes it came with were fantastic as well. Blackened chicken (4/5) The chicken was flavourful and juicy for the most part. The scalloped potatoes were excellent, and the green beans had a delicious sweet chili sauce on them. Pizza (2/5) This was a very average pizza. There crust was way too thick for the amount of toppings there was. Poutine (3/5) This is just average, and I suggest going somewhere else if you're craving poutine. This would have been 5 stars, but the fact that I had the worst migraine of my life after eating the food makes it a 1 star establishment for me. I consider the Flying Beaver to my local place for a pub outing. And have been there many times over the years. Went for Dine Out Vancouver, and had a lovely three course meal. The clam chowder was delicious, but could have been hotter. The Pad Thai with prawns was excellent, and the mini hot donuts with chocolate and custard was delightful surprise. My companion had salmon which was a tasty main course, although it was reported that the prawn appetizer was a bit salty. The waiter service was friendly, prompt, and unobtrusive. The FB, being on the water, has great views, and on a clear night such as we had, the nearly full moon and the lights of Richmond. read more
